The Key Guy Locksmith

Called and told I needed a copy of a key made from a broken key. The key part was fine but the plastic casing broke. They said yes they can make it and send a technician who starts soon after. Next thing I know, sorry we can’t make a key because its broken. SO WHY START MAKING A COPY IF YOU COULD SEE THAT!!! Attempted to clear this up with the NEW MANAGEMENT but they said «oh well, pay us». The old owner was great which is why I came back to them but this place is a joke. Don’t bother with these bastards.

The Key Guy did a great job at making an identical copy of my old Honda car key, which has a chip in it. Unfortunately, I just found out today that they are closing their Aiea business for good and were moving everything out of the store when I stopped by. Mahalo, The Key Guy, for providing me with great service.

He was very rude and not very helpful at all. I would not recommend him to anyone. I calked him to assist with opening my gas tank cover as we lost the key. I explained my situation before he came out here but was irritated when he didn’t have the proper key. Why is that my problem?

I went to get my car key cut and programmed. The Key Guy is super nice and friendly, and very informative. He’s professional and did what he could to help us. We were having alarm issues, he managed to get it to stop going crazy and cut us a new master key which works better than the one we had. and charged us way less than the dealership would have charged us. I highly recommend this guy. He also has nice building/​home door handles with codes you can get. I was thinking about buying one! haha :)

The guy was really nice and knowledgeable. The price was 10 dollars for a replacement key (motorcycle). I would say it’s more than reasonable.
Overall, I was very happy with the experience. Would DEFINITELY do business with again.

Simply superb service. Took my old Lexus key in and was out in less than twenty minutes with two new keys in hand at one fifth the cost that Lexus quoted. This is an exceptionally well run family business that I will absolutely do business with again.

We went to the Key Guy to get a replacement transponder key for a Lexus. The owner was very helpful and we had a new key within 30 minutes that he tested until it met his and our satisfaction. Good service at a reasonable price.

We had all our keys stolen on the North Shore. The dealer wanted to replace all the locks & keys for $ 800. Guy was great to deal with, and his $ 200 for new keys (from scratch!) were made in less than 45 minutes on the spot. I would definitely recommend you give Guy a call!

I have never written a review before on Unilocal but felt compelled to after receiving such horrible customer service. We have been trying to reach this company for weeks now and have left messages with no response. Understandably, they are not open on weekends, but then do not leave customers an option to leave a message if you never intend to return their call.
Maybe they might be willing to respond if we were a new customer, however went there to have a Lexus key made. The key looked great, good price but it could only open the car door and not actually start the car. We have left about 6 messages in attempt to schedule an appointment to have the key remade with no response.
We finally got in contact with «Guy» today and after explaining our situation, he rudely wanted to know why we didn’t come in sooner. Then after explaining that we have been trying to reach him, he coldly responded, «well, I answered today?». After all of that, turns out he is too busy today anyway to fix our key. Obviously, the owner doesn’t care since he would not being making any more profit on us, therefore it would be a waste of his time.
I am all for supportig local businesses but only if they even appreciate our business and the prospect of repeat customers and word-​of-​mouth. I really did feel that since they had our money, they felt no urgency to help us when it was their service/​product that didn’t work in the first place.
Support local business that actually deserve it!

Before I went to «The Key Guy,» I first read the reviews on «Yelp*» and decided to give them a try. If you’re not that interested in paying dealer prices and can handle the 2 man operation of a small business… then go here. I will definitely be back for other items.

It’s always great to deal with the owner of a successful business. Guy was great at communicating and coordinating a time for me to meet with him so he could cut me a new car key with remote. I ended up saving 50% off of dealer pricing (still way high for a stupid key) and he got me in and out in less than an hour. Its a pleasure doing business with a professional who is passionate at what he does.

Like an idiot I locked my keys in my car. I called multiple locksmiths in the surrounding areas and were quoted prices up to twice as much higher than what the «key guy» charged. Highly recommend!!!

My Mazda key recently busted so I was in the market to buy a new one. After calling many places, including dealers, I found that The Key Guy had the best prices for my situation. To give you an idea of how much a new key from the Mazda dealership cost, it was a little less than $ 500.
The Key Guy only charged me a fraction of that price.
Guy and his staff are very friendly and professional. They always returned my calls in a quick responsive time frame and had many different keys on had for various makes and models.
I like this shop so much, that I drove from Hawaii Kai to Aiea a couple times just to get keys made from Guy.
Just a heads up though, Guy takes appointments, call in advance to make a appointment, or if you live in the area, stop on by; everyone is super friendly :)

My son and I came here last week Thursday during my day off. We recently moved into a new place so we got a new lock (my husband was adamant about replacing the lock) and I really wanted some cool keys. Moving isn’t as fun when you don’t have cool keys to go along with it right?
Kimberly greeted me at the door with the key dog «Spock». I think Kent was more interested in using Spock as a pillow or foot rest. But oh well, both of them were really sweet and I thought it was cute that they had a mascot. Kimberly let me take my time browsing the different keys. I ended up with a guitar shaped one (my husband got that one) and a Stitch one. Both were really awesome. I was kind of bummed that they didn’t have a Pirates of the Carribbean one for my key style but Kimberly said she would order one for me and call me when it got in. Talk about service!
Guy was able to cut my keys in less than five minutes. He even made me a mail key… I didn’t know they did those but he mentioned them so I thought it would be helpful if I got one. Prices were reasonable. Last time I got it cut at Sears but the prices were the same if not better so I thought I would support local businesses! Go local right?
I saw that they have the car key blanks with the remote on them. She told me they charge less than what the dealer would charge… something like $ 30 – 40 compared with the $ 100+ the dealer charges.
The hours for the place are M-​F from 9AM-​5PM. She made sure I knew the hours because she didn’t want me to get confused if I called and she wasn’t there. She said she got a bad review once when people called after hours. She just didn’t another person to be confused. I thought it was really nice of her to let me know the hours and gave me some Key Guy gear so I could remember them if I get stuck in a bind. They said if I ever (God forbid) lock my keys in the car with my baby that it would be free of charge for them to unlock the car so I can retrieve my baby. So don’t lock your baby in the car but if you do, call the Key Guy!

Checked their website and it says they can replace Mercedes key such as a transponder key/​swithblade. Well I left a few messages during their business hours and never received a call back. I found a different number and finally someone answered and said, «hey you called about 20 times and we don’t do type type of car» I said well your website says that you do and the reason I called was because it was an emergency.
he appeared to be very rude and bothered by my inquiry.

So here’s a review based on professional 9 – 6 daytime work experience. Thus with real world results, real world bills, and real world clients.
WTF a actual useful review, not based on whimsy and not my need to express a creative side nor share a bad pun???
This might be a shocker for the 3 people who read my reviews (and are kind enough to compliment) and discover GASP that I have a real job.
Oh I do, and here’s my story on why work sucks. And why The Key Guy is awesome.
I’m locking up the office after a particular hectic day and the following occurs:
1. Unlock my car
2. Get into my car
3. Decide I want to change out of my uniform
4. Pop my trunk, place my belongings in the trunk
5. Get my Sexy On (U READY?) & slip into my hoodie
6. Close my trunk
7. Swear incessantly
So who you gonna call? I quickly ran back into my office and dialed The Key Guy and spoke to Kimberly who was super helpful, sympathetic, and nice as heck. I told her the make and model of my car and that I had locked my keys in my trunk, with my spare being inside my glove compartment (No Comments Please). I expected a certain price based on the make and model of car (as in I am used to getting rape prices) but they undercut this number. She told me Guy would be on his way in about an hour and half, which was fine.
Then after the waves of panic subside I realize I am covered fully with my insurance for lock-​outs, jump starts, and all other sorts of Mayhem™. I call them and they are always good to go and say a person should be here in 28 minutes to help me.
Quickly, I call Kimberly back to cancel, and she’s fully gracious with my ineptness.
Here’s the best part 20 minutes later. She calls back with some helpful tips on how to approach my insurance covered locksmith and to be sure of certain things before I agree to anything. Basically just looking out for my car and I’s well being and Above and Beyond the call of regular customer service. So awesome!
They have earned my business. So much so that when my office needed some regular locksmith work done I had no reservations about calling The Key Guy. Never even thought about calling around. And like the last time, the day after Guy’s work here at our site, he called back to check on it.
I really could learn something about customer service and relations from yall :] The only thing I regret is not mentioning Unilocal for the discount. But it’s on the corporate coin anyway :]

Who buys a car with a broken key? Phillip H. does!!! Haha well actually, I didn’t really buy it. I got it as part of a trade so I guess it’s not that fail on my part.
Long story short:
Phillip: How much does it cost for a new key?
Lexus: About a $ 100
Phillip: How about $ 20 and a hug?
Lexus: No

Ordered a key blank online, and took it to the Key Guy. The place is located behind Best Buy in Pearl City in that huge lot of establishments. Apparently there’s another key guy in the same lot so i got really confused when I went to the wrong guy. I kept telling him that i talked to him, and he kept telling me he didn’t. So confusing.
The actual location is on the ground floor. Look for the bright green van and you’ll see it.
Guy, the owner was informative and pretty quick with the cut. I didn’t have the car with me, so I couldn’t test it out, but he said that if it didn’t work, to call him. I was praying to every god imaginable, especially the god of saving me a trip from town back to pearl city over a car I didn’t really care for.
The total cost was about $ 30, so i wasn’t complaining.
What really made these guys shine though, was the fact that Guy called me a few hours later to see if I had tried the key out to make sure it worked. I had to throw some offerings to the god of good customer service.
Overall, if you need any kind of keys cut and you’re in the area, go to these guys. They have a Unilocal discount which makes them even better.

I initially called Will’s Lock service (see my review there) as I was referred to Will’s by my mechanic. Unfortunately, he didn’t even show up for the appointment that I made with him the night before. He didn’t even call after I left numerous messages the same day. If he’s in the hospital or had a family tragedy, I forgive him; if not, I stand by my comments.
On the other hand, Guy, the owner of The Key Guy was awesome! He followed through on his word to show up as we scheduled and open my trunk. He was very accommodating and competent. Ultimately, my MB500SL trunk couldn’t be opened. I was still willing to pay Guy for his time and effort. He stated clearly that he doesn’t like to accept any money unless he is successful in doing the job. Wow! This was refreshing to hear in this day and age. Five star service all the way. Use The Key Guy! Thank you, Guy. Here’s to your family’s success!

I appreciate the comment and emails that Kimberly sent and have highered the rating by a star for following up in a friendly and pleasant manner. A HUGE difference in customer service level from Guy. However, what happended, happened and there always will be one side of the story, the other side of the story, and the truth. I guess the readers have to make up their own minds.
I understand that you are running a business, and a negative review can upset your businesss, but we as consumers need to hear the good and the bad. We spend our hard earned money on services and smart shoppers rely on networks like Unilocal to hear from fellow shoppers on their true experience. All I can say is that the experience was so horrible, I had to write a bad review.
Again, I appreciate your emails, but please respect that our experience was truly unpleasant and I hope it was at least constructive feedback and an area for growth.
