History

Established in 1938.

The law firm of Amer Cunningham Co., L.P.A., has deep roots in Akron, Ohio. It is a descendant of the late-​nineteenth-​century firm of Green, Grant & Sieber, led in part by Akron real estate developer and Republican politician George Sieber, who joined the firm in 1891.

In 1920, Bernard J. Amer, one of the founding partners of the modern-​day Amer Cunningham, joined Sieber as a partner in the law offices of Sieber, Sieber & Amer. Twelve years later, during the Great Depression, Amer formed an association with Michael Sophrin. In 1933, they were joined by Ernest L. Cunningham, who had begun his practice with the law firm of Mottinger & Evans and then established his own office. When Sophrin died in 1938, the firm, then known as Amer, Cunningham & Sophrin, began its journey into the modern-​day firm of Amer Cunningham Co. L.P.A.
