Established in 1936.

he Equitable Federal Credit Union has been serving it’s members for over 77 years. The EQFCU was originally formed on January 18, 1936 as the M. O. Neil Company Federal Credit Union in Akron, OH. The credit union has been through many changes over the years including name changes to accommodate market changes and member service upgrades.

The Credit Union was created by employees of the M. O’Neil company to pool their money in savings so others could borrow as needed. The Credit Union was not connected to the ownership of the company itself. The Credit Union was and is still ran by a Board of Directors elected by the membership. Any member over 18 years of age, who is in good standing with the Credit Union is eligible to run for a position on the Board of Directors to help in the creation of policies and the addition of new services for the membership.

Equitable FCU now services all employee’s of the following Select Groups of Employers (SEGs):
