Specialties
Alameda String Academy is a music school in the heart of Alameda offering high-quality instruction in violin, viola, cello and guitar.
We provide more than «just lessons». Our talented teachers work hard to create a real community of musicians where students enjoy their music, play together in groups and perform for each other in a kind, supportive and challenging environment.
We offer students weekly private lessons, small string ensembles, regular Studio Classes and twice yearly Studio Recitals where they can grow in confidence through playing for their friends and family.
History
Established in 2013.
Founded in the summer of 2013, the Alameda String Academy is a local, family-run business dedicated to high quality music in Alameda.
We kicked things off that summer with a series of free, family concerts in Franklin Park, and since then we’ve grown our student base from zero to about 50 students, and have continued to perform in the community, with concerts at our own location, more Franklin Park concerts, and several successful events in partnership with the Alameda Free Library.
Meet the Business Owner
Erica W.
Business Owner
Erica grew up in Portland, Oregon, where she started playing violin at age 9. She first moved to the Bay Area in 2000 to study at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and after receiving her Masters at the Cleveland Institute of Music, returned here to settle in Alameda with her family.
Erica has 15 years of teaching and administrative experience, as a private teacher, school clinician, youth orchestra and chamber ensemble coach, and concert producer. She has a special passion for the works of Beethoven and has performed the Complete Beethoven Sonatas for Piano and Violin twice with Hong Kong-based pianist Karl Lo.
Erica loves chamber music, and her goal in founding ASA is to offer students not-only high quality private instruction, but also opportunities to play with others throughout their musical development — whether that’s in our Prelude Strings small ensemble, our Suzuki group class, or in our Chamber Music program for more advanced players.
