Computer Dave

…This is another 5 STAR review for Computer Dave on March 20, 2014, since my first on in March, 2013.
…Please read my previous reviews and the quality of your lives will improve, by having two (2) backup computers, as I do, for my businesses. I have read the bad reviews about Computer Dave, and they’re written by people who don’t have backup computers.
…Having two (2) backup computers is cheap insurance against the stress and frustration of being without a computer, and I highly recommend Norton 360. I have used Norton for abouit 13 (thirteen) years and have never had a virus of any kind.
…About 12 (twelve) days ago, one of my PCs got confused and I couldn’t fix it, so I called Dave & he came over and picked it up. He kept it for 10 days, but I was still happy and stress-​free because I just connected one of my 3 (three) PCs. Having 3 (three) PCs is very cheap insurance for my personal and business matters. Being without a PC for more than 2 days would be terrible stress for me, so always having 2 (two) spare PCs keeps my superb quality of life. By the way, stress generates cortisol, which is the «stress hormone» and anything that causes stress, such as being without a PC, generates constant cortisol, which is a contributing factor to cancers and Alzheimer’s Disease.
…So, having 2 (two) backup PCs reduces this contributing factor, and it doesn’t matter if Dave keeps 1 (one) of your 3 (three) PCs for a week or two, and it doesn’t matter if his voicemails are full. Having 2 (two) backup PCs and Norton 360 will maximize your quality of life, as this has done for me.

13 days ago Dave took my computer and said it would be ready the next day. He does not call back. He does not meet deadlines. He does not return my computer to me. He does not have an office at 1417 Broadway. He has moved and the person in there now does not know where he is. I am ready to make a police report for computer theft.
Addendum: Same day as above review, he called. Said he’d call right back. 4 hours later, no call, but finally did bring the computer back apparently fixed. I will not be using this guy again unless there is no one else on the planet who can fix computers.

Computer Dave ruined my laptop. I found his name in the Yellow Pages on a Sunday when a virus finally killed my laptop and brought my laptop to his home around twelve noon. Dave was a nice guy and he said he’d have the job done in an hour. He was also pretty cheap, $ 60 to reload an operating system. An hour came and went and I never heard from Dave. Then many hours came and went and I still had not heard from Dave, even though I had left numerous voicemails. Finally, he picked up around 9:00pm and said he was just finishing the job and did I want him to drop my computer off. I said yes. He ended up dropping my computer off at 11:30pm!
But the worst is yet to come. My laptop never worked right! Using the CD drive caused the whole laptop to crash and restart with a blue screen of death. I was so frustrated by my previous interactions with Dave I never bothered taking it back to him. I ended up buying a Mac. My recommendation is to pass on Dave.

I wish that I had read some of the reviews on the other sites before having dave work on my computer. First time he came out he forgot a disc that he needed so he had to come back the next day (didn’t show up until very late) and spent an hour fussing with the pc before he said that he needed to bring back to the shop and would have it back the next day. The next day went by with unreturned phone calls. He finally brought it back two days later, however when i hooked everything up I still had a virus. So I paid him $ 120 and my pc is still not fixed. I called to explain the problem and he said I’ll take care of it and would be by the next day before 11am, I spent the entire day waiting with no phone calls and finally I took it to another compute store to have it fixed. So far I’ve spent $ 120 and wasted over a week with this guy What a mistake!!!

When our laptop crashed about two months ago, after a little research on the problem and a decision that it was beyond our ability to fix, we called Computer Dave. Dave fixed the initial problem (after lots of the same «no answer phone calls» and «missed appointments» that others are complaining about) but when we tried to use the laptop after he fixed it, we had no sound. Again we did some research, saw how others had fixed the problem but, since we had sound before Dave took our computer and not when he brought it back, we called Dave to see if he would take care of this. To his credit, he did jump right on it (Dave style) and had the computer for about 3 or 4 days this time before he called to say he wasn’t having any luck and wanted to reinstall windows. I think that’s a little drastic, but at this point we were frantic to get the laptop back (my husband’s work is on it). After a 24 hour period of cajoling and missed deadlines, Dave brought us back our machine and it was up and running!
The good things about Computer Dave: 1) he fixed my computer for the time being; 2) he fixed a secondary problem without additional charge; 3) he seems like a nice enough guy.
The bad thing about Computer Dave: HE’S TOTALLY FLAKY.
Do what you say you’re going to do when you say you’re going to do it and save us all some stress. That’s all. Don’t blow smoke up my skirt because you think it’s what I want to hear, just do what you say when you say. This would be a totally different review if my expectations had been better managed.

I have so much to say about my experience from this place. IT WAS VERY STRESSFUL. I swear I grew white hair from dealing with them. Dave and his GF were friendly but when it came down to business I wasn’t sure if it was professional or not. Dave he’s a cool guy, I have to agree with the first review, he is kind of slow. It seems like he didn’t know what he was doing or saying most of the time.
Ok so the first time we took it in he said that he would have it done by an hour or so NO PROBLEM. My boyfriend and I left it there went and did whatever we had to do that day. An hour passed, we came back and guess what? HE WASN’T THERE. We asked his gf to give him a call but she DIDN’T EVEN KNOW WHERE HE WAS. She even said that I think he’s at home watching tv rather than fixing the laptop. Being the nice people that we are we told them that we would pick it up the next day in the afternoon. My boyfriend brought my laptop back home. I checked it out and GUESS WHAT? The work wasn’t finished! He said he fixed this and that on the paper and we paid him for that and yet IT WAS NOT DONE!!! (Do I sound like an angry woman?-BECAUSE I AM!!) We took it back and told him what was missing and his excuse was that he didn’t have enough time. WTH! How could you not? After keeping it a WHOLE DAY! So while he was working on it, he again promised it’ll be done in an hour. We called and he BEGGED if he could have it overnight because he was busy and what not. We gave him another chance let him have it for overnight. So the next day I kept calling no answers until a little bit over 3 calls or so. We gave him until 3PM that afternoon, when he answered my phone call he said he wasn’t done and that they would deliver it. It was 9PM close to 10PM, I gave them a call again because I think they HAVE HAD ENOUGH TIME. NO PICKUPS NOTHING, straight to his voice mail. Very ironic, I remember his GF saying that he NEVER TURNS OFF HIS CELLPHONE, BECAUSE HE ANSWERS PEOPLE’S PHONE CALLS EVEN IF ITS 3AM in the morning. This gave me the feeling he was trying to dodge us. Finally last call, THEY ANSWERED it was his GF again. I asked about the my laptop and she had the nerve to joke and say «OH WHATS WRONG ARE YOU DYING WITHOUT YOUR LAPTOP» and what did I reply to that? «YES IN FACT I AM!» (Not really) I was just very piss that day and I STILL AM. She said that they were done but they couldn’t drop it off because their car «broke down» WOW are you serious? So I told her were coming right away to get it, then she said that she would find a ride to get it here but I was just fed up so I insisted on picking it up ASAP. I told them that we’d be there to pick it up at the store. So when my boyfriend and his brother arrived there, guess what? IT WAS CLOSED! Yes it was close, WTF? didn’t I just tell them that we were coming. My boyfriend called me to call DAVE. When I called he picked up he seems like he was completely out of it. He was like «Oh, we’ll open it right now» SIGH. It was very stressful I tell you.
FINALLY, after all the hassles. I have my laptop back. I don’t know what he did but my laptop is no longer the way it used to be, I’m saying that in the bad way. It’s very slow, graphics is so bad, I swear I’m missing a hard drive or something. I swear never again will I COME BACK THERE! NEVER!!! I’m sure if they read this they wouldn’t like me anymore but it’s better to get it out there than have another victim fall for their horrible services!!! BTW, did I tell you that I found his ad and went for it because it said «FREE DIAGNOSTIC, FREE DELIVERY, ETC» I was stupid for not researching this place first. This is why I give him one star.

i’ve had continuous problems with my Toshiba laptop. My computer will eventually crash and I would normally use the recovery disc to wipe out the hard drive and start from scratch. I had tons of photos and some docs that I did not back up so I did not want to do that this last time and i was just desperate to get this problem fixed.
I did a search for computer repairs in the area and came accross some random reviews for Computer Dave. I took a chance and had him fix it. He advised he checked out the hard drive and it was fine and that he had to reformat it or something like that. He said that since he redid it, i should not have that problem anymore.
$ 100 + later, it ran fantastic but that was short lived. Less than 1 month later it began to slow down and eventually my computer lost some file and windows would not start again.
I should’ve read those reviews more carefully because most of those people only had reviewed his business — which likely means they were not genuine reviews.
I eventually took it back to Dave and had him look at it again. He did a backup for free and he offered to get it up and running for me. I left it with him for a few hours and when I came to pick it up, he said he found that the hard drive was actually faulty.
Why couldn’t he have told me that $ 100 ago? He said there were 2 ways to install windows and he must have done the short way and did not catch the error. He offered to put in a used hard drive for $ 40 and he would get it up and running. He did say he would do it and I could pay him later if i wanted.
Computer Dave is a nice guy but he is not very professional. My mistake for allowing him to fix his computer as he does not have any professional background in computers. He has a background in carpentry and is self-​studied in computers. I almost did not have him fix it at all to begin with because of his ackward and lackluster response to my concerns. It turns out that he was just not good at communication.
Overall I gave him 2 stars because he is decent in pricing but I guess you get what you pay for.
Update: I reduced his rating to ONE star because of his UNPROFESSIONAL and unfriendly response to my comments: «WOW. You really twisted that around, I must say, you are a real piece of work. I’ll bet you’re real proud of yourself. Just another small-​mind with a big mouth, unwilling to accept responsibility for your own mistakes; instead you try to put it on someone else — stab them in the back to boot. You’ll see, what comes around goes around. Lies will get you nowhere in life.»
I would think that someone who is trying to maintain his business try to make right on what was wrong than to accuse a paying customer of lies. i am only putting out what I experienced. And THAT is real.
