Great attitude, no customer taken for granted. I buy everything direct & handselect my seafood myself on a daily basis. I loathe wholesaing and chasing money, so every customer is appreciated! We specialize in CRAB FEEDS, you can pick it up or I personally deliver 95% of them myself. Shipping is also available for those out of the area. History

Established in 2003.

I was literally born and raised at Joe Pucci & Sons on 5th & Grove and 3rd & MLK in Oakland. This is my true calling. My last name guarantees quality and service, thats why it was trademarked. My father Steve no longer owns Joe Pucci & Sons and works side by side with me. I met my wife Alison at work, so these have been great times. JP Seafod Co. has been a great learning curve for me. I really enjoy what i do.

Born and raised 40 year Alamedian, with 28 years experience in the fish business. Joey Pucci (me) comes with 90 years of family history is the seafood industry. I am the only honest fish guy! We owned and operated Joe Pucci & Sons in Oakland from 1918 until about 15 years ago. My father Steve is on board with me, along with my wife Alison, Uncle Pat, and my cousin from the far east Jason. I love selling fish and have knocked around the SF wharf after we sold Pucci’s. I finally had the guts to go to work for myself 6 years ago and have not regretted it. Selling fish retail has always been a dream of mine since my early teens. Grandpa had a retail in downtown Oakland and I loved the look of giving the public a chance to hand select their own meal. I only buy the freshest product available, I’m not interested in deals, I’m only satisfied if my customers are. I pretty much work 6 days a week and enjoy the many faces and friends that pass by. I LOVE WHAT I DO!

This place is easily accessible, and the people are super friendly! I have yet to buy any produce from here BUT I got some absolutely delicious ahi tuna for some poke I wanted to make! The man working (I didn’t get his name) but he was so kind and helpful! But yea the fish was fantastic will definitely be coming back! Hands down come here for all your fresh fish needs!

Take it from someone who used to buy their fish from Costco, you won’t find a better value for your money anywhere else. Yes, Costco salmon is cheaper. But the farm-​raised salmon at JP tastes noticeably better, is sustainably fished, and is only a couple of bucks more expensive per pound.
Plus, you can buy sushi-​grade fish here. I made homemade poke at a fraction of the cost restaurants charge!

I was eager to visit this shop after reading multiple glowing reviews here. Truly fresh fish seems to be a boutique business and this business is certainly doing their own thing. The visit began well when parking seemed to be readily available. Their shop is in the middle of an unremarkable produce stand.
As mentioned, their selection was sparse but seemingly select. Even though there were only a few choices for what I was shopping, it took me awhile to locate prices (only posted on a wall chalkboard) and several minutes to decide but by then the 2 clerks didn’t seem interested in serving me. I waited, staring at their backs until I’d decided they were too busy in other tasks to serve their only customer, and I left. I won’t be back.

Super fresh, high quality seafood. Selection can be limited but he’s truly selling fresh fish so things will run out, things will not come in. Like an olde timey fishmonger who gives you only the best and if it’s not the best, then it’s just not available. Great prices for what you’re getting.
I go all over for my fish (all over Berkeley, off the boat in Pacifica, Piedmont) — and this place, down the street from me, is the best. I feel lucky as heck!
Again I want to emphasize — it’s a small shop that is obsessed with freshness. He’s not going to overbuy fish and then sit on it for days and days. He’s going to have just enough and not more than that. You can call and order ahead for specific items or quantities — but it’s best to just ask «what’s best». You can have a real relationship with your fish purveyor and if it’s delicious and perfect — then it will be!

Best fish in the area. Bought some Sashimi grade Ahi and wild King Salmon and made Poke. Flavor was off the charts, very fresh fish with beautiful color and no «fishy» smell.

Excellent store. Great seafood– always fresh. I’ve been coming here for a year, since moving to the Island. I don’t shop anywhere else for my seafood. The folks who work here really care about quality and will take the time to let you know where your food came from. Nice tips on cooking the fish. I would highly recommend this place.

My only fish monger. Always fresh fish. Doesn’t sell crappy cheap Chinese or Vietnamese farmed junk. I recently bought some of his salmon pattys and they were delicious! Not the lowest prices but i don’t care. Local guy great quality couldn’t be happier.

Recently discovered this place & I love it. Joey told me everything I wanted to know about the fish he had available. I needed crab for the following weekend & he offered to call me to let me know if he’d have any. He actually did call & while he had bad news (wasn’t going to have the crab I needed) the fact that he went out of his way to call was pretty amazing to me. I’ll definitely be going back.

This place is tiny but the fish is fresh. We did not place an order for NYE but they had salmon, hamachi and tuna available for us. Reasonable prices for the freshness of the filets. I’ll have to advance order next time. This place is easy to miss (since it is really just a counter in a produce market).

I am a science teacher in Oakland, and I was in desperate need of live crayfish. I called the educational vendors and all of them were out of stock, so I called JP Seafood Co. I talked to Joey and he was more than happy to help me out. He went above and beyond looking all over the city for live crayfish. He finally found some for me, and when I went to pick them up he donated them to my classroom free of charge! The educational vendors were going to charge more than $ 60 to deliver them to school. What a pleasant surprise.
When I went to pick up the crayfish, I noticed how clean they keep the place. Also, the fish looked amazing. I definitely plan on returning to JP Seafood to buy some delicious prawns or fish. It looked so fresh and delicious.

My family and I have tried to find a good place to get fish for a long while. I’m not a heavy meat eater so my dad has always tried to find alternatives for me which end up having me eating a LOT of chicken. The fish markets we’ve tried in the past have been beyond fishy smelling, not that great tasting and the help has always been awful. I heard about JP Seafood Company from a friend who hadn’t tried their fish, but I figured I’d give it a try.
Not only was Joey a complete pleasure to talk to but the salmon I bought was delicious! The selection is smaller but I would rather have a small selection of amazingly delicious fish then have a HUGE selection of mediocre fish. I really appreciate that Joey walked me through the three types of salmon they had that day. He really knows what he’s talking about, which is always helpful. I’m extremely excited to buy and cook more fish. I have already told everyone I know that they need to get their fish from this location :)

My husband found this on Unilocal.Craving sashimi graded fish, so I drove here today. I wasn’t impress with the selections displayed on the shelves, but when I asked «Uncle Pat» if I can order a pound of tuna and a pound of salmon, he took off from behind the store and grabbed a nice big chunk of Salmon. Looked so fresh!
Service was on the slow side (minus one star) and there wasn’t anybody there but me, but He was pretty friendly. Originally I was going to give this place a 4 star.
Both fish quality is worth the 50 mile drive since we’re in Alameda a lot anyway… but sorry, we have tried other places that are better and closer to us.

This is the most impeccably kept fish I’ve ever seen. The smoked salmon is to-​die-​for! The owner is wonderful, passionate, friendly, and only gets the best wild-​caught fish. He refuses to purchase from large boats. The fish is pricey but very worth it. Go here and get some fish!

I’ve been a customer for JP Seafood for years. Why? Well no one else in Alameda knows fish like Joey does. I am Japanese and very selective about my fish. I like knowing where the fish came from, when it came out of the water, etc. How many stores in Alameda/​Oakland areas can answer that? I get sashimi grade fish from here often and slice them myself. Their scallops, halibut, etc. are great for sashimi or carpacchio. Ask them what their recommendations are the day you go there. To make carpaccio, slice them thin, then sprinkle some red onions and some capers, salt and pepper lightly and drizzle with good olive oil. Bön appetit! Sashimi is much more simple, just have some soy sauce or ponzu and some wasabi to go with it. Itadaki-​masu!

Pucci Seafood Company in Alameda. Once you begin to shop for your fish here at Pucci’s, you will no longer be able to get it at the larger grocery chains. It simply cannot compare to the freshness and quality. Not to mention the one on one, personalized service from Joey and his team. This is such a critical part of purchasing quality fish, or any meat for that matter. Joey will help you select what you need for the meal you are looking to prepare. They assist with the quantity you need, and they also will share with you what is really good and in season. They don’t try and push the old stock or sub-​par quality that many grocery stores will do.
Treat yourself to the way it should be. Pucci Seafood is the only place I will buy fish and shell fish. Period. Thanks Joey!

I’ve been buying crab & fish from Joey for years, from various locaitons. His current location is great and we’re able to pick up everything we need to make a meal from the produce side.
Joey’s fish is always fresh & tasty, and we’ve traded ways of preparing the fish, which always turns out great. Since having meet Joey, I don’t buy my fish anywhere else!

Just as I was leaving out of Dan’s Fresh Produce, I noticed a refrigerated case full of fresh seafood. While I was taking a photo of the salmon, the friendly owner, Joey, greeted me and when he mentioned JP Seafood, I was so glad he moved here. He and I shared some memories about Pucci & Sons. AAMOF, one of my former neighbors worked for them.
JP Seafood (Pucci & Sons) used to be in West Oakland (a few blocks west of Broadway and below 5th Street… somewhere between 3rd and 4th Streets). It has also been a long time since I purchased about 15 dungeness crabs from his business for gumbo around the holiday season. One had to put in advance order for dungeness crabs from his business… they were usually sold out quick, fast and a hurry.
No more shopping around and running to all the different venues in town to buy seafood, especially dungeness crabs and catfish fillets.
With JP Seafood being in Dan’s Fresh Produce, it is a definite that I will patronize both businesses and they’re under one roof… right on!
