Business Owner

Dr. Matthew Lau is a native of Alameda.

He went to Alameda High, UC Davis, and received his dental degree from UCSF. After working for 6 years, Dr. Lau found the opportunity to return home to Alameda. He is very passionate about his patient’s well being, and attends lots of continuing education. Additionally, he likes to build guitars and ukuleles.

I first visited Dr. Lau when my crown fell off that was made by Bright Now dental in Pinol. The crown was made from an improper impression so now Dr. Lau is going to great effort to give me the perfect crown that will fit perfect for the very small bit of tooth I have left all the way in the back. He is very knowledgable and even has his dental professor visiting him to get dental work performed. He is able to easily answer any questions and even entertains me with videos while I’m having the work performed. I’ve been to lots of dentists and Dr. Lau is the best!

I was in need of a new dentist and wanted someone in Alameda and found Dr Lau. Very nice office that opened this past January so still very new. Dr. Lau has top of the line equipment and a friendly attitude. He uses a computerized x-​ray machine that exposes you to 90% less radiation and you can see the large images on screen as he explains what you’re looking at. Very cool! I had a check up and also a tooth extraction and cavity filled. All were handled smoothly and he provides you with a ton of information which I appreciate.
Dr. Lau will be my regular dentist going forward. Highly recommended!

Dr. Lau was punctual, asked clarifying questions, is talented, and has great attention to detail. I recommend him as a dentist. He was extremely thorough and clear on what he was doing every step of the way. Dr. Lau’s office is relaxing with the friendly and inviting atmosphere for dental care. He even helped me whiten my teeth, which helped me on a few job interviews.
I have been in twice for a dental checkup and he gave great suggestions as my teeth are sensitive. I also consulted with Dr. Lau about a cosmetic procedure I was interested in and he was advising why I shouldn’t go through with it putting in his knowledge and care. I appreciated that he listens and doesn’t push for procedures.

I’m 66 and remember dentistry when it was a black art: when Novocain barely worked and the drills were powered with cables. When the needles were so big they would make a crunching noise as they were inserted.
Dr. Lau is the best of those 66 years: meticulous learned, high-​tech and with a superb chair-​side manner that includes a running commentary on what and why he is doing [sic]. He is driven to always improve and is a perfectionist.

Suzanna the hygienist is experience and very knowledgeable. Thereas is extremely helpful. This office exhibits a strong attention to detail.
Patients are highly prioritized and recognized here — staff remembers your name and eases the experience of getting your teeth worked on. I’ve had cleaning and a crown done here. Dr. Matthew took care of my crown without after pain, attention to detail excellent. Dr. Matthew and the entire staff were helpful and friendly. I just have a new Dentist who I feel good about. For me that is hard to find. Great dental care.
