History

Established in 2008.

Rio Combat Team is the newest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) alliance in the bay area, founded by Diogo Gomes, Fabio «Pateta» Prado. The founders have known each other from their training days in their home state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Gomes and Prado trained together under Carlson Gracie. The two would reunite years later in the United States to create Rio Combat Team. Diogo Gomes directs the MMA program at Bladium Sports Center in Alameda and has been coaching for 10 years. Gomes holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-​jitsu and in 2002 was ranked 1st in the super heavyweight division in Rio, Brazil and placed 2nd in the nation at the Brazilian Championship. Fabio Prado is the head jiu-​jitsu coach at Ultimate Fitness, Sacramento and trains professional MMA fighters, Urijah Faber, Joseph Benevidez, and Chad Mendes.

Diogo G.

Business Owner

Diogo is 28 old, 6’2″, 205lbs. Diogo holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Fabio «„Pateta“» Prado. He currently trains under Fabio «Pateta» and is a certified instructor of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. His early training began at age 15 with Carlson Gracie in Rio de Janeiro and later refined with Luiz Paulo in Brazil. By 2002 he was ranked 1st in the super heavyweight division in Rio, Brazil and placed 2nd in the nation at the Brazilian Championships. Diogo competes in local Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts competitions regularly.
