The Good Karma Studio

I’ve been here once for aerial yoga and a couple of times for the aerial strength training class. I preferred the latter — it was such a great workout and boy did the time fly by. My muscles were screaming the next day, so I knew I really worked them! Jessica is a great instructor. I will definitely be returning, and I look forward to trying out some other classes on the first floor.

As someone who enjoys mixing up my exercise routine in my home city of San Francisco, I’m always looking for classes that will continue this routine wherever I go.
I chose Good Karma because of the TRX class and ease of signing up for it. The studio doesn’t use standard TRX ropes, but the aerial fabric version of it which is just as effective. Jessica proved to be an excellent teacher. I’ve taken all kinds of group exercise classes since I was 16, mostly in San Francisco and NYC, so it is easy for me to «predict» what the next steps will be if the teacher is average/​standard. Well I was impressed with the dynamic moves and exercises Jessica taught for TRX. It is clear she has a huge wealth of knowledge and experience in group exercise and training that is also, I imagine, always ongoing. I could not predict what was going to be next — time flew by and I definitely got an excellent workout. Another thing I appreciated was that at the end, we did an aerial hang — something I had never done before. What a great way to introduce me to aerial — it was a unique, supercool experience with a very freeing feeling. I was scared doing it at first, but Jessica guided me through it to make sure I felt safe, supported and encouraged. I loved this class so much I came back the next day and did her $ 8 lunch time yoga, which was a steal.
I’d strongly recommend coming here to any Albany local or anyone visiting the area. Basically, if Jessica lived in SF, she would naturally become one of my favorite teachers that I would have to plan my exercise schedule around.

Tried the aerial yoga (all levels). Interesting & totally enjoyable, relaxing experience, but I don’t think I will be back often as I don’t feel i would get enough out of it for the cost. I would definitely recommend it to anyone once (especially anyone stressed out) as it’s a delightfully unique thing to try. I both enjoyed it and felt great afterward, but I feel like I personally get more out of grounded yoga. Maybe I’d change my mind with regular practice, but can’t see it being worth the investment from my current perspective.
In case any of you have the questions I had, I will go ahead and answer the things I was wondering. You do not need to bring a mat. No one in our class used one. It is ACTUALLY suitable for beginners (including the ultra-​est of zero even standard yoga experience beginners). I felt it was in fact much easier on your body than standard yoga. I don’t think I sweated at all and I do when I do basic beginners yoga from YouTube at home. (That’s the extent of my practice and it’s not regular by any means so I was terrified going into this but it was totally unwarranted terror.) My class consisted mainly of beginners like me, with a couple yogis mixed in. There were 7 of us in swings and we all had plenty of space. The class was slower paced than i expected, I feel like we only did a handful of positions during the hour.
Overall super fun to try once and extremely relaxing. I think it’d make a fun date or friend outing.
Our instructor was pretty new at teaching but she was nice and did a good job. I would recommend that the studio gets square register or something to take credit card payments regardless of who is there because no one wants to leave their cc info!

The Aerial Strength class with Jessica is a great workout and the studio is so welcoming to people of all levels of fitness.

I have been going to this studio for a year and there is nothing like it! Jessica (owner and instructor) teaches both yoga and aerial strengthening classes. My personal favorite are the aerial classes, which have changed my body in ways that other fitness classes have failed.
Jessica challenges and pushes you in every class, but if you are a beginner or have injuries, she modifies the exercises specific to your needs. Also, which is extremely important for me, she changes the classes every time to avoid boredom and so your body doesn’t get used to the same movements. Other great pluses are the Rockband class — an hour of nonstop cardio hitting wood blocks with drum sticks and Aerial Cirque d Soleil class — performing aerial acrobatics in the swing. She also coordinates a team for obstacle/​running events held locally (i.e. warrior dash, urban raid, inflatable 5K, etc) and has a couple weeks out of the year teaching kids specifically.
Overall, the atmosphere at the studio (and owner) is warm, welcoming, fun, and challenging. A MUST studio to check out!

I love Good Karma Studio! They have a variety of classes every day. I have been taking Camille’s yoga classes and she is a really great instructor! She has helped me improve my practice tremendously. It is clear that she is very skilled.

I absolutely love the Good Karma Studio. I take Cardio Barre and Gravity Strength regularly, and the owner/​instructor, Jessica Lubin, continually introduces new classes too. I have been going to GKS for about 9 months now, and I can see results from the above mentioned classes. My butt and hips are slimmer, my legs muscualr and toned, and I have definition in my arms I have never had before. They are truly total body workouts, and they are FUN! Jess is a super upbeat, encouraging, patient, creative and knowledgable instructor. The classes are also relatively small, so she’s able to give individual attention and guidance on form, and answer questions along the way. The studio is also beautiful and geographically convenient. I honestly cannot say enough good things about my experience here.

I’m not big into Yoga, but have done it a couple of times in my life. This was a decent workout, however I’ve had some that I liked better. The involvement of swings adds a fun element to it; however it was at times uncomfortable.

I’ve gone to the Good Karma Studio for gravity yoga classes with Jess three times so far, and I can’t wait to go a forth. It’s like yoga meets gymnastics meets the trapeze. Jess is a very patient, effective instructor. I never would have imagined I’d be able to trust myself enough to do some of the things we do in class, but Jess is very encouraging.
I’m no doctor, but I feel as though I’ve accomplished in 3 sessions of gravity yoga what it had taken me months to do with a wellness chiropractor. My spine feels fantastic. I leave class feeling straight and strong, and the strengthening exercises keep my core engaged.
I think Lai and I disagree on the price tag. I don’t think $ 18 is pricey at all considering most studios charge $ 15 for a standard class. I’m more than happy to pay $ 18 ($ 17 if you register ahead of time) for a class the requires that amount of instruction plus the special equipment. Again, the chiropractor was costing me a bundle, so this class has more than doubled the return on my investment.
As for the studio overall, it’s a beautiful space. Love the artwork and the vibe. I’d consider checking out some of the other classes, including gravity strength or hot yoga.

Bethany teaches a weekly class in my building, but this week she needed to teach at the studio so I went there. So glad I did! I really like the space and the tree trunks they used to separate the studio from the reception desk. They have silk sheets for anti gravity yoga and I am definitely going to check that out. I think the same room is used for their hot yoga class but luckily for me, it wasn’t too hot in there. Lots of space for a medium sized class. I will be back!
