History

Established in 1983.

Originally built in the early twentieth century, 76 Central Avenues history is as diverse as its clientele. From an Industrial age slaughterhouse through a delicatessen, restaurant and show bar, 76 Central Ave changed as the city of Albany grew, before becoming what it is today, Albany’s Best gay bar.

In the 1960s, business such as the Central Delicatessen and Restaurant (1960 — 1964), the Smart Set Restaurant (1965 — 1966), and the Red Carpet Show Bar (1968 — 1971) made their home here. In the 1970s, the Central Arms Lounge Tavern (1973 — 1977), and the Central Station Restaurant and Grill (1978 — 1981) served our community before becoming The Waterworks Pub in 1983.

For over 25 years Waterworks has been home to Albanys gay community. Through controversy and celebration we have and continue to offer the best hometown-corner bar feeling, as well as, one of the hottest dance clubs in Albany. Our dance club, formally known as Secrets, One Flight Up, and WW II

Meet the Manager

Peter A.

Manager

I started at the Pub in Oct of 2001. I’ve been the GM of the Wwp since March of 2002. My experience here has been a great one, the community is amazing. Very close nit, like a family, the customers and employees share many great and sometimes sad times. They are always there for each other, and they are always supportive. I have help transform WWP from an old dark dungeon of a place into a vibrant, friendly, warm enviroment. The staff and i are constantly adding new and exciting features including in 2009 a VIP lounge and in 2006 a roof top smoking patio with ample seating. These are just a few of the improvments made in the recent years. We will never stop improving Waterworks Pub.

Thank You ALL!

Pete
