History

Established in 1956.

Bobby J’s Yamaha was started in 1956 by Robert Johnson. At first he sold all of the old classics, but when Yamaha came out he was one of the first to import Yamaha motorcycles to the U.S. Since, then Bobby Js Yamaha has moved from the old fairgrounds location to 4724 Menaul NE, it’s current location. It has been here since, 1964. Now his son Stan Johnson runs the shop and his grooming his son Keith Johnson to be the 3^rd generation to work at Bobby J’s Yamaha.

I have been running around the dealership since I was in diapers. I started riding a PW50 without training wheels when I was 3 years old. My grandpa taught me how to ride in front of the shop. I am guessing that Menaul was not as busy 30 years ago. I worked here for a short time in high school, but I ended up pursuing a professional motocross career. I raced professionally from 1997 until 2009 on the AMA Supercross, motocross and arenacross series. I also raced in Canada and Europe. I retired in 2009 after I decided the risk verse reward was not worth it anymore. I still enjoy riding and try to get out as much as I can, but I don’t really race much anymore. With the racing behind me, I decided to come help my dad at Bobby J’s Yamaha and learn as much as I can, so that I can continue to keep the oldest Yamaha dealership in the U. S going for another generation.
