Dr. Jay S. Folkman.
Business Owner
Dr. Jay S. Folkman, an Albuquerque native, received his Bachelors degree from NMSU in1977 before going on to study at the University of Houston College of Optometry. He interned at the UHCO clinic and then returned to Albuquerque to intern at the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute. After receiving his optometry degree in 1981, Dr. Folkman started in private practice. He was elected President of the New Mexico Optometry Association in 1996. Dr. Folkman was one of the first members to participate in the InfantSee Program, which conducts free screenings for infants between 6 and 12 months of age. This screening is meant to catch conditions such as amblyopia, an ailment that reduces depth perception and can cause blindness, as early as possible. In 2012 Dr. Folkman became a National Board Certified Optometrist, a diplomat certification awarded by the American Board of Optometry.
