Hawthorn Suites By Wyndham Albuquerque

I booked this hotel because it had a 7.9 rating on
but when I arrived I was very confused how it got that rating. My room was on the 4^th floor and since the windows were old and misaligned, I could hear the wind blowing the entire night. The drain in my shower had not been cleared in awhile so by the time I was finished showering the water was up to my ankles. I didn’t make coffee in my room because the water section of the coffee maker didn’t look like it had ever been cleaned. The breakfast was disgusting as was the watery coffee. I tried several times to use the phone in my room to call down to the front desk and I received a busy signal but when I went down to speak to someone there was one woman at the front desk and not on the phone.
I liked the location as it was just two miles away from the Albuquerque International Sunport and only 6 minutes from the downtown Albuquerque Roadrunner Train Station. It was very close to a gas station if you’re driving in this area but other than that it didn’t seem like a nice part of town. The shuttle came to pick me up from the airport after 11:30pm which was nice but would not take me to the train station the next morning.

Room is sub par. Old micro, hard bed, and toilet that doesn’t flush well. TV will NOT let you plug in your hdmi cable and the channels here are terrible and few. At least the shuttle service will take you to/​from the airport and else where off property!

Horrible needs a new update, bed sheets are hard, towels are stained and hard. Carpet in rooms are dirty and shuttle took 25 min to pick up from airport. Breakfast was awful !

Came in for rugby tournament and found this place to be unimpressive. Negatives: The walls are thin and there is no vent in the bathroom. Pricier than expected for such small room. Slim pickings at breakfast buffet too. Positives: plenty of parking and free wifi. Will look for other options next time I’m in town.

I have never spent less time at a hotel than I did at this one. I had a ridiculously early flight so booked this hotel for its proximity to the airport. I got in from Socorro much later than I thought so had just enough time at the hotel to shower and take about a 3 hour nap. Then it was up and over to the airport. Ugh…
But as for the hotel… Location was great and easy to find. There was plenty of parking. Although trying to find an open gas station (to top off the rental car) that night nearby was a chore. I got in so late there was no one around so check in was a breeze. The lady working the front desk was friendly. My room was spacious and well stocked. I loved that it got really cold and was quiet. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. It was clean aside from one long black hair I found on a towel. Gross yes, but I guess those things happen. I left so early that I didn’t see anyone or have an option of breakfast. For the few hours I was here it was a good experience.

Kind of an older, run-​down sort of a place behind a gas station. It wasn’t exactly what I would have expected from a Wyndham brand. Perks were free breakfast, plenty of parking, 5 mins from airport, and super easy access to I-​25. Free breakfast buffet was supposed to be ready by 430am on the last day of the balloon fiesta (likely special early time for the fiesta) as per the front desk when we checked in, which was not relayed to the kitchen/​manager the next morning. Manager seemed annoyed by the many guests waiting for the breakfast.

Very disappointing stay. We came back to our room after being out all morning to find no towels. I called the front desk to ask when we may get towels and I was asked «do you need them now?» I said I would like to have something to dry my hands on when I wash them. I was told «Well, you’ll just have to wait, maybe 45 minutes». 2 hours later a knock came to the door. When I opened it, the towels were thrust at me as if I requested special treatment and wasn’t worth it. Not one employee had a smile on their face, at the desk, in the breakfast area, when thrusting towels at me. The apron of the sink had huge chips in it. The drapes weren’t hung correctly so they wouldn’t close completely. The tile in the bathroom didn’t look like it had ever been cleaned. I usually only write positive reviews, but this was such a disappointment I couldn’t not say something.

This hotel has the potential to be better than it is. I am shocked that a business still allows smoking on their premises, especially a hotel.
The smoking rooms are on the fourth floor which is good because us non smokers do not have to travel through this pollution to get to our room. Unfortunately the laundry room (1 washer and 1 dryer) is located on the fourth floor.
This is an interstate hotel that is good for one night, at best. Unfortunately for me, my stay was considerably longer.
The breakfast was good, better than expected actually. The housekeeping staff was nice and helpful and the front desk crew was professional.

We have stayed in Albuquerque and Santa Fe hotels for many vacations over the years, and this one is rated at the top! Good service, comfortable accommodations (for my disability, too), great hot breakfast and very reasonable rates will bring us back to this hotel from now on! Pets are welcome, but we didn’t hear a sound out of them over the last 4 days we’ve been here. Staff has been extremely helpful and they made our stay a positive experience. Mini-​fridge and microwave saved us money on lunch, supper and snacks. We’ll be back for sure!

Needed a hotel near the ABQ airport for a night while travelling
Great experience with Wyndham hotels in other cities led me to give this one a try.
The place is a dump.
The room I stayed in needed to be remodeled 10 years ago.
Bathtub backed up and filled with crap from the pipes whenever a neighboring room used the showers. Live cockroaches washed into the tub when this happened.
Found two cockroaches in my suitcase when unpacking after my stay here.
It takes a lot for me to write a review — just felt I had a civic duty on this one.

I’ve stayed in quite a few hotels recently and, while I was traveling on a budget, I expected this place to be a little more… normal? for lack of a better word… I arrived late so had no issue checking in. When I made the reservation, I specified that I was traveling with a dog so I figured they would have marked this down somewhere. I didn’t sign any pet waiver or pay a pet fee right off the bat, but didn’t think anything of it because that isn’t always standard. When I came back through the lobby with my luggage and dog, the receptionist threw a fit and threatened to charge me $ 50 for «smuggling an animal into the building». Confused, I talked her off the ledge and payed the $ 25 pet fee.
The room itself was clean and spacious. The sink was right by the door so that was odd placement. The beds were comfortable but the pillows… come on. Rocks in a bag. There were four of them per bed which was nice. The icing on the cake was the audacious sign that read «if you’d like to purchase our pillows or towels, talk to the front desk staff». I’m still laughing. OH and the air conditioner/​heater was terrible. It either blasted dry, hot air continuously, despite the temperature setting or it was off. I woke up about 5 times to adjust it.
Breakfast was sufficient; eggs, sausage, waffles, biscuits and gravy, etc etc. The food was hot and seemed fresh. The breakfast area and lobby in general look like a 1960 Midwestern saloon. Normally, I would appreciate the vintage design, but it reminded me of a horror film.
For a one night stay while traveling, this place fit the bill. Pet friendly is always a plus and I have a thing for biscuits and gravy, so they were winning there too. The price was fair, but the awkward customer service and outdated atmosphere bring me to this three star rating.

Terrific and reasonable priced hotel with great staff, services, breakfast, transportation and they even let me use an isolated spare room to rehearse guitar music. One of the best. Thanks to everyone there.

I have read the other reviews and I am not sure they stayed at the same place I did. Yes, there are a few issues, but overall, for the price, I thought this was a great place. Check in went smooth with no issues. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Lots of settings on the air to get the temp just right. Nice big flat screen TV. Bed was super comfortable with big fluffy pillows. Nice work desk with a rolling chair & a big comfy chair in the corner. Fridge and microwave are small but serve their purpose.
The breakfast was good, sausage, eggs, biscuits & sausage gravy and waffles. Also had a selection of cereals and breads.
Down sides: Ice only available on floors 2 & 3; only one slow elevator; lots of traffic noise if you are on the street side.
All in all, a great stay for the price. Will definitely stay here again of the chance arises. Also…10% off coupon when you check in on Unilocal.

I had to wait for the lady to get off the phone. The floors and halls were dirty. The elevator had blood on the walls. The rooms were clean and there was nothing wrong with them. However, the rest of the hotel was vile.

Clean, large rooms, courteous service, a big breakfast, free high-​speed internet, and convenient shuttle. What more do you need, particularly at a very reasonable price. I always stay here when I travel to and from Albuquerque. There is no better deal in town.

I really enjoy writing positive reviews, but unfortunately I’m unable to do so for the Hawthorn. I’m kicking myself for not reading the Aug 2010 review because we too were sucked in by the coupon in the visitor’s center brochure!
–We had a small U-​Haul trailer in tow and parking was not convenient. Not recommended if you’re in a moving truck or towing.
–While standing in line, the front desk attendants were trying to work out a situation where they gave the wrong guests access to a room that had been set up (decorated) for a honeymoon– yikes! When we arrived to our room, there was a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. We returned to the front desk to report the double booking. Both attendants were on the phone and instead of calling the room, they asked us to enter, as their computer showed the guests had checked out. If there were guests in the room, they said they would just apologize to them. We knocked loudly 2x and after no response, attempted to enter. Luckily the occupying guests had used the chain lock otherwise, who knows what we would have walked into! I was mortified! (If we weren’t so exhausted and didn’t have a 2yr old with us, we would have immediately left!)
— Second room, fridge was not working. We liked the new beds and the pillows were great, but unfortunately they didn’t have sheets to fit! The fitted sheets kept popping off the mattress because they were too small.
— The elevators smelled like smoke. 4^th floor is smoking, but there are ashtray boxes adhered to the walls on the non-​smoking floors. Something worth noting if you have a sensitivity to it.
— The outdoor pool was extremely cloudy and chunks of the pool lining were sitting on the deck. Needless to say we didn’t get in.
–The guest laundry is located on the 4^th floor (smoking) and is limited to an antiquated single washer and dryer. They were in use, so we were not able to use them.
–Decent, well-​attended hot breakfast bar, including hashrowns that weren’t greasy (a plus!).
-(FYI) Dinner ordered from Pizza 9 was great! They even have a gluten-​free option

Stayed here July 30^th on a work trip not because I wanted to but because the Hyatt Place was overbooked. Showed up at Hyatt Place only to get sent to the dumpy motel. Though Hyatt Place had provided us with a late arrival guarantee, read the small print. most hotels have the right to just send you to another hotel as long as they pay for it. They did say they would pay for our stay but well, for a hotel that is 55 to 85 a night, does it even matter? Couldn’t they have put us in a nicer hotel? The hotel was so dirty that in the morning, we checked into another hotel downtown (Hyatt Regency) despite how we were flying out on the red eye that evening.

I have no idea what possessed me when I chose this place to stay. I was scanning the literally hundreds of places I could stay for a couple of nights in Albuquerque. Most of the famous names, Marriott, Hilton, Embassy, etc were hovering in the $ 130 to $ 160 range per night… when this hotel caught my eye for some unknown reason. It said, remodeled in 2003, suite rooms with refrigerator/​microwave, free hot breakfast… and free internet…$ 71/​night. If you subtract the value of the breakfast and internet, thats a $ 50 a night room! I’m paying more for my rental car. Most Unilocalers I know spend more on appetizers at dinner than that. When I feed my kids, I spend more at McDonald’s…curiousity got the better of me and I booked it. The worst that can happen is that I change hotels in the middle of the night…(which I had done earlier this year… OOOPS. what the heck did i get myself into???)
Arriving close to midnight I arrrived where the desk clerk greeted me and promptly got me my room. The place was nearly empty…(now I am in trouble…) but everything was clean, tidy and in pretty good shape.
Getting into my room, I quickly finished my Frontier take out… and head off to bed…
NOW I UNDERSTAND $ 71 PER NIGHT!!! I quickly looked around to check to see if I was at the Madonna Inn and had inadvertantly checked into the Fred Flintstone room… ummm no. I am in Albuquerque and am laying on a bed you would see on a National Geographic special about the daily life of Lucy. I think if there was a nuclear accident at nearby Sandia, this bed will be still here as evidence of a previous civilization… Well ok… I survived, the bed is hard but I slept ok… but then again I can sleep leaning against a wall.
On to breakfast… the breakfast was a much better experience. Highlight was biscuits and gravy… The biscuits was cooked to have a crunchy crust… perfect for gravy because lighter, fluffy biscuits become oatmeal when gravy is poured on. These biscuits kept their crunch with the gravy poured on it. There were link sausages you could add to the gravy if you wanted some meat with it… Scrambled eggs, hash browns were all average but good for breakfast.
Overall because of the Flintstone bedding, this is only a 3 star… could have been 4. If your back is sensitive to a very hard mattress, I would strongly suggest plowing through other choices.
