I’m not a big fan of classic rock, if only because as a child it was A) endlessly poured into my eardrums, B) I grew up in a city with a great local music scene, and C) now that Jane’s Addiction and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have made the list of «classic rockers», I’m officially Old and grumpy. That said, I’ve listened to KIOT plenty, especially at my favorite laundromat when I was in grad school. Unlike the sensationalized, over-the-top stations I grew up with(and 94 Rock here), KIOT’s format is a great mix of obvious classics and plenty of deeper, longer tracks. You’ll find some of the lesser-played Hendrix and Stones on this station, with fewer commercial breaks and DJs that generally keep it cool. Speaking of DJs, Erika Viking is the star of the morning show, and the day for that matter. She mixes up smart, hilarious content with personal commentary that seriously connects her with the audience, a rare trait for a host, and her guests are usually pretty entertaining, to boot. For a commercial station in ABQ, this is a solid choice.
