Smallcakes A Cupcakery

I’ve been to Small Cakes a lot of times but I’ve never written a review. Yesterday they had cotton candy cupcakes as one of their customer favorites. It’s my favorite but I couldn’t make it there before they closed. They were so kind in letting me purchase over the phone and then pick them up today. I can’t say enough about how great their cupcakes are! You can’t just buy one, you’ll regret it when you get home that you didn’t get more. The flavors that seem weird turn out to be the best! They have ice cream now too and hands down it beats any ice cream shop in town. The seating area is small but so quaint and welcoming. I love stopping by for a scoop of ice cream and a cupcake. They have a frequent buyer program or loyalty program and I’ve already earned a cupcake. You can save up your points for a dozen later too. Thanks for the best cupcakes in the world and for accommodating me.

Super good cup cakes. The prices are a bit intense for the average American but worth saving up $ 40 for 12 cup cakes.

I just moved to ABQ, and I didn’t think I would be able to find cupcakes that came close to some of the best cupcakes I have had in Chicago. However, these were pretty darn close. I came at a time that wasn’t busy and the guy behind the counter was very friendly.

Smallcakes does cupcakes right! There are so many places that try to do cupcakes, and most of them fail, some miserably. Not at Smallcakes. The cupcakes are larger than some of their competitors and at around $ 4 a cupcake I feel the pricing is right. The cupcakes are cooked perfectly, very moist but cooked through. Don’t even get me started on how good their icing is! The service was wonderful and they helped me select a good variety of 6 to try, all of which were spot on delicious.
I’m definitely going back, this place is a must visit for a great sweet treat.

These are some stellar cupcakes. I don’t drive cross town for just any cupcake, but I will for these. They are fresh as their born date and I think their secret is they don’t keep them refrigerated all day which tends to give them that ever so stale taste. I’ve never had a cupcake that I didn’t love here. Their customer service could be more friendly. Both times I’ve been there I feel a little snubbed even though I’m paying $ 4 a cupcake. Maybe service with a smile? Other than that, it’s worth a trip to grab a delightful, delicious treat here.

Moist and just sweet enough. Really tasty! Excellent customer service. Friendly staff and clean facility. Been to many cupcake boutiques and bakeries all over the U.S. featured on tv and this was one of the best.

The cupcakes are great but the woman behind the counter was not. I ordered a dozen cupcakes for a gift and asked her if she could write the names of the cakes on the inside of the lid. She seemed extremely put out by this. I don’t know why but I actually apologized for my request because she made me feel so uncomfortable. I know that the recipient of the cupcakes would ask which ones were which and I would have no clue so names on the box seemed like the easy solution. The last time I was here I had the gentleman behind the counter do the same thing and he was more than happy to do it. She also used a sharpie to write the names on the box and I asked if the smell from the marker would affect the cupcakes and she said it dries fast plus she’s a lefty so writing with a pen is hard because the pens skips. So glad the sharpie was more convenient for her at the expense of her product. When she rang them up the price seems a bit higher than I thought and she said they were $ 38 a dozen. When I walked in I was looking for a menu on the wall and missed the small $ 38 a dozen sign at the top right hand corner of the big sign so I grabbed a brochure that was on the counter. Inside it said $ 36 a dozen. I told her that the brochure states $ 36 and she said the price of eggs went up so they had to up their prices too. I totally get that but then they 1) should have their pricing more visible on their wall and 2) don’t have brochures on their counter if they aren’t correct. The cupcakes look and taste amazing but when you leave a place of business feeling guilty for a simple request and feeling like you received rude snubbish service that was bad enough to prompt me to take out of my day to write this, then maybe you should take a step back and realize your product will only get you so far. YOU are representing your business too and shouldn’t come across so inconvenienced when your customers as for a simple service that you should probably provide anyway.

I will not be back for these great tasting cupcakes.
The cupcakes truly are delicious, it is a pity the staff and service is awful.
They seemed rushed and upset they had to serve a long line of people. Then after telling them twice my treat was to eat «here» they still packed it in box and seemed bugged I sat down and ate it at the table «I guess you want a real fork» was the line I got as I unpacked my plastic eating utensils. Then while I ate I could hear all three staff complaining about a previous customer. Although they were in the next room, the giant open window to that room allowed me to hear all the details. I assumed that after I left they would start to all talk about me as well. When I was done I sat for a bit checking my Facebook, one associate was cleaning the plates right next to me but never offered to clear my things when it was obvious I was finished.
So after clearing my own place, it was easy as all I had to do was throw everything away as it was packed in to-​go box, I made eye contact with all three staff on my way and not one of them thanked me or wished me a good day. They all started at me as if thankful the place was now going to me empty so they could continue their gossip guilt free.
All of this comes after I was warned about this place by a friend who tried to order for her graduation and was told «we are not a good fit for your cake, I am sure another baker can do your cake for you». I should have listened to her, but thought I would give them a try.
We have several other local bakeries that have just as delightful treats but are grateful and respectful of their customers. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Absolutely the best German chocolate cupcake I’ve ever had. Satisfied all my cravings on an improvised visit never heard of the place before, but I can’t wait to go back.

Although the service was ill-​tempered (what is is with cupcake shops and surly ‘tudes?), they take their cupcakes seriously (they even gave us a tip on how to care for our cupcakes at home) and when we tried it, the $ 3.75 little cakes was freshly moist and delish! Would go back. A cheery attitude would make it an almost perfect experience.

First, lemme say that these cupcakes taste wonderful. Honestly, they do. My husband and I happened to be in the neighborhood and decided to try out some cupcakes since the line for the Starbucks was ridiculous.
The shop itself is very clean, which is great. You instantly smell the deliciousness of the cupcakes when you come through the door. Trying to figure out which flavor you want can take a little bit of time considering everything looks amazing. After going back and forth, we opted to get 6 cupcakes verses a dozen considering we just wanted various flavor options but not committed to a ton of cupcakes.
Our box of cupcakes were placed gently onto the floorboard of the car for the ride home. Once home, they looked like they had started falling apart which is weird to me. Are the cupcakes very fresh? Yes. Almost too fresh? I’m leaning towards yes. Stuck them in the fridge and hoped they would become a little more solidified. I was wrong. Every single cupcake crumbled as we lifted them out of the box. It may seem silly to ding them over something like that, but, it’s so frustrating that you pay $ 4 for cupcake confetti. Something as delicious as a cupcake shouldn’t make you frustrated.
So, as delicious as the icing was, it’s just not enough for myself or my husband to go there for a cupcake fix. We’ll continue going to Santa Fe for that.

I absolutely love the cupcakes here! Every time I have a chance to stop by, I do! Not to mention the great service! The friendliest man is always there to help!

Let me start by saying my daughter and I watch Cupcake Wars ALL THE TIME — so this may be a bit harsh…

Certainly better than any grocery store cupcake, but not crazy, fantastic like I was hoping…
I had the ‘chocoholic’ cupcake, the kids had ‘strawberry lemonade’… Mine was pretty blah :-(
Kids loved the frosting on theirs, but said the cake was ‘plain vanilla’…
They do offer cupcake decorating parties — I’m sure my daughter and her friends would LOVE that!

What can I say… I love cupcakes (really sweets in general) so when I’m traveling for work it’s not unusual for me to skip past dinner and right into dessert! I had been to the Smallcakes in Atlanta, GA so when they came up in Albuquerque, NM near my hotel I knew what I was having for dinner. With so many to choose from I went with the Strawberry Lemonade and it did not disappoint. The cupcake was moist and the icing was perfect, the surprise inside of lemon filling was awesome. For $ 6 I got the cupcake and a Diet Coke (gotta cut the cals someplace ;)). If you are looking for a little piece of heaven right here in ABQ hit it up!!!

Cupcakes are very delicious and much better tasting than DC Cupcakes and Curbside Cupcakes (cupcake food truck in DC).
The people complaining about the cost clearly hasn’t ventured outside of Albuquerque or New Mexico. Similar establishments have the same price point. If you want cheap cupcakes then shop at Walmart.
Try living a little and just enjoy the fact that Albuquerque has such a high quality cupcake establishment.

Arrived in Albuquerque & my hotel room was t ready. Went out to explore the town & satisfy my sweet tooth when I stumbled across Smallcakes.
Ended up getting a 4-​pack of cupcakes to bring back & share with others in my group. We ended up with a lemon drop, a red velvet, a salted caramel & a vanilla with chocolate icing. ALL were delicious. The cake was beyond moist & the flavors were bold & delicious.
Wish this was closer to home, because I would start ordering cupcakes for parties & events from Smallcakes.

At $ 3.75 a piece… I expect a big, sinfully delicious cupcake. What I got was a normal sized, far too sweet cupcake.
I was excited to go to Smallcakes and fulfill my cupcake desire.
The décor and set up was cute and inviting.
Trays and towers of cupcakes greeted us as we walked in with a huge board telling us what cupcakes were available on what days.
I got the sinfully caramel cupcake, filled with caramel, caramel buttercream icing and sea salt.
It was so coyingly sweet that I could not finish it. And for me, that is saying a lot.
We also got a strawberry Nutella cupcake and a fudge sundae cupcake.
All very, very sweet, and again, just normal sized.
Needless to say, we were a little disappointed and all needing something to balance out the amount of sugar we just had.
And 3 cupcakes for over $ 12, well, I just didn’t see the value.
The young lady that was tending the shop was nice enough. No complaints on service as many others seem to have, and for that I am grateful.

Such a great place! The staff is friendly, the cupcakes are so scrumptious and the location and the shop are very nice. The only really not-​so-​great thing (for me) is that they run out of their specialty flavors fairly early so usually by the time I visit all the awesome flavors are gone and my selection is limited. Bad for me but great for them that they sell out!

So, I turned 43 last month. To add insult to injury… nobody got me a birthday cake. Not even a cupcake. My dear friend in LA woke my tired and grumpy self up at midnight to sing my Happy Birthday song. And 98 people I MIGHT know from Facebook posted birthday messages. But my local people totally forgot. I felt like Molly Ringwald in 16 Candles. Except I didn’t have a cute guy in a red Porsche waiting for me. Heck, I didn’t even have a weird nerd that wanted to steal my panties.
AND…I’m legally blind and unable to run out and get my own freakin cake. My birthday was rescued by this awesome bakery. I ordered a dozen cupcakes for myself. I paid for them myself. I begged enough people that I got someone to pick them up and bring them to me! And I did not even offer to share. I skyped my LA birthday singer and showed him my treasures. He demanded that I stop crying over friends dropping the ball and put those goodies in my tummy! And I ate 12 cupcakes in 3 days! They weren’t any exotic flavors but they were huge and perfect and worth every dollar.
Lesson learned? Celebrate your own special occasion… birthday, job promotion, dumping a bad boyfriend, buying new shoes. It’s YOUR life and your party. Get your cupcakes at this place… single servings of heaven. And I lost 4 pounds! Happy birthday to ME!!!

Let me start by saying I am so glad I don’t live anywhere near this establishment. Not because I don’t like it but because I fear I would be a daily visitor and that wouldn’t be good for my hips.
I didn’t even know about this place until I was browsing thru my entertainment book and found a coupon, so I talked my husband into driving over the other side of town so we could check it out.
First impressions are everything right??? And I was impressed from the moment we parked out front, the store is bright and clean with a nice open display cabinet as you walk in showing all the cupcakes they have for sale. There is also a menu on the wall that shows you by the day what they have on the menu. There are certain cakes that they only have on said days.
I decided to get myself the caramel cupcake and the birthday cupcake for my daughter, my husband picked out the peanut butter one and the cookies and cream for our son. The lady boxed them up in there cute little pink cupcake boxes (nice touch) and off we went, with my mouth watering the whole drive home.
I don’t think I even took my jacket off before I had the box open and took my first bite of my cupcake and wow oh my gosh these have to be the most moist cakes I have ever tasted and the frosting was out of this world. Everyone agreed that this place is a winner and we will return.
The people who think this place has cupcakes comparable to grocery store cupcakes blow my mind because I have never tasted a cup cake from a grocery store that can even come close to comparing to the cakes we had.
