I made a reservation for our 28th wedding anniversary as this was a place my wife went with her parents many years ago. When making the reservation I specifically indicated this was our anniversary. The person taking the call was very flippant and said«ok I’ll take your word for it» with regard to it being our anniversary. That should have been my first warning of how this place is run. Arriving at the restaurant my first impressions were not great. The hostess was very casually dressed in jeans. She was related to the owners so I guess she felt entitled to not care. Upon entering the dining area I felt as though I was at a nursing home. It was loud and crowded and I suspect they have a good group of regulars. We sat at a table in the middle of the room after I specifically requested a corner table when making the reservation a couple weeks prior. So after sitting the water server came to the table with our waters however she was accompanied by what I believe was her 3 or 4 year old daughter. Her daughter proceeded to take my wife’s silverware from the table and giggle. My wife and I looked at each with a puzzled look. At this point we decided that if this is how this place is run we weren’t going to give it a chance with the food and simply got up and politely excused ourselves and left the restaurant. I was very disappointed that we had this experience as I had hoped this would have turned out differently given the reason for evening’s celebration.

Chez Andree offers a lovely dinning experience. It is family owned with long time employees who actually enjoy the food and telling customers about it. No it’s not cheap but honey, this isn’t La Madeleine’s. It’s excellent as a special occasion restaurant or as a treat after a really rough week and it’s one of the few places I would consider taking my cosmopolitan globe trotting in-laws. The food is great, the atmosphere is great and when I get the chance to go I’m always satisfied.

Food is not good for brunch. French toast is wet and tastes undercooked. Espresso is regular coffee. No water refills after food arrived. Complete disappointment. Very nice server, though not efficient.

My girlfriend and I went there for a quick lunch, great service and great food. I had my 3 month old with me and didn’t feel like a burden to the staff.

Excellent brunch place! Came here with an old friend on a Sunday morning for brunch, and had a great experience. The waitress was polite and professional, the décor set a nice atmosphere, and the food was delicious(I highly recommend the eggs Benedict)! Also, the food we ordered came quickly, we weren’t waiting for hours to get our food like I’ve had to do at other brunch places! There is good parking as well, which is always a plus in the DC area. Also, the prices are really reasonable, a great brunch deal!!! I will definitely be back!!!

Had dinner late on Sunday afternoon. We were the only customers in the dining for almost half an hour. When we walked from the parking lot to the restaurant I heard loud laughter and talking which turned out to be a waitress serving the patio customers. During our dining experience she smoked several cigarettes and texted a couple of times on her cell phone, all the while sitting with outdoor/patio customers. Even put her feet on the window sill while sitting with the customers. Probably didn’t wash her hands after smoking and before serving food to those customers. NOTPROFESSIONAL! Our male server seated us and gave us a menu. Another younger server, addressing us as «you guys,» asked if we’d like bread and butter. He returned a few minutes later with water and a basket of bread and butter. Our original server came a few minutes later to take our orders. The young server stopped by our table a couple of times and we had to ask for water refills. When he served it he continually reached across in front of my wife, and also did the same when removing used dishes from our table. The service was acceptable but I resented the rudeness of the younger waiter’s language and the manner in which he served us. It was obviously just a job and he either had no training or didn’t care. Lots of seniors in the dining room by the time we finished dinner. There was also one family with small children at one table. I wouldn’t recommend this place for anyone younger than a teenager. The food was good for the price and selection, but I won’t return. The observed actions of the wait staff soured my experience in spite of the nice atmosphere and relatively good food.

I love this place. Perfect for this neighborhood. Cute, quaint, and so so good. The atmosphere is relaxing, the staff are so nice an wonderful and the food. So so good. I get the reviews that call this the ‘blue hair special’, but I talk that as a positive. Been around for 50 yrs and the same people have kept coming back? Obviously they know something others don’t. I will keep coming back as often as I can.

We have visited Chez Andree about 4 times in the past year, and have had a good experience each time. The service and the food have been good. The dining room is cozy french country. décor. The only reason they don’t get a 5 is that the bread is subpar for a french restaurant — it does not seem like french bread and has been a bit dried out on one visit. But overall it’s a nice place to have dinner. It also has a nice bar.

The Monday two-entrees-and-bottle-of-wine for $ 29.95 is quite the deal! Food and service were spot on. The only thing lacking is the ashtrays in the bathrooms. They finally had them removed. :)

So far. experience started off mediocre… it took a awhile to get seated and this is with a reservation. Our server had 3 chances to tell us the specials… he didn’t. This disappointed me a little because I want to know what the chef has thought about preparing for the day/week.I wasn’t going to ask because really if your a good server you make recommendations. Bread.was mediocre… we asked if we could get it toasted and it made so much of a difference and they also give us the opinion to have it toasted with garlic. Food: It did take awhile for it to come out but we did order a few appetizers. We ordered the escargots, onion soup gratin, lentil soup and a plat de charcuterie. Review: escargots with a squeeze of lemon juice were good they were nice and tender not too chewy. The onion soup was good a bit too much gruyère cheese for me and was a bit salty but a very flavorful dad ordered the lentil soup and said it was pretty good. The play de charcuterie wasn’t that extraordinary it was good but nothing that thee me over the moon. The Pâté need a bit of salt. The rest of the charcutarie plate was just so mediocre hardly any flavor it was just flat. Entrees:I ordered the Steak au Povire it was a good hearty 12 oz steak and the brandy peppercorn sauce was amazing so steak was perfectly cooked a nice medium. The creamed spinach, sautéed carrots and scalloped potatoes didn’t stand well alone each were mushy and bland and really didn’t add anything to the dish. To be honest I would’ve preferred steak frites because I just wanted to sop that sauce up. My brother got a Filet Mignon with Béarnaise sauce it was a bit well done for him but it is difficult to cook such a tiny cut of meat. He received the same sides and thought they were lackluster. My mother ordered the seafood crepes and enjoyed them because it was nicely packed with seafood and it also came with rice, red cabbage, sautéed carrots and creamed spinach. My father ordered the Fruit de Mer which he said was delicious and the sauce that the pasta was in was really good also. After all that food we decided to try a few desserts. I decided on a crème brûlée and the ice cream parfait with raspberry sauce. Both were pretty good. The crème brûlée I wish was a bit thicker partially because I like mine to be a thick custard consistency but the brûlée of course was on point. Overall it was a slow start to a meal but it ended on a good note. Again my gripe isn’t with ambiance because it wasn’t bad this place is a very homey restaurant. It was more the service and that was on our waiter because he didn’t offer any specials and he offered a dessert menu after someone else had already took our order. The other staff were very accommodating with water refills and refilling our bread basket with toasted bread. I can say food wise though they do deserve a 4 and since I come to eat and not for service I give this place what it should have keeping in mind that they do have room for improvement.

I definitely do not recommend this place. The reviews below are pretty accurate. the patrons are quite old. My server was attentive and pleasant but the other one was horrible. He went through the dining room yelling if anyone needed more of this or that. It seems there are lots of regulars. The food was heavy with sauces. I would not return.

I went to Chez Andree for brunch with friends the weekend of the big storm and power outages in the DC metro area. We tried to go to another place first, but found it was closed so we went to Chez. The restaurant is small and quaint inside. It’s cute, if I had to choose one word. Our waitress was very forthcoming with details about the restaurant’s history and told us it was a family run operation, which I thought was very cool. She also poked fun at the guys at the table, from telling one to take his hat off to telling another she saw him eating candy before he ate brunch. She was a bit abrasive, but not offputting. She was charming in her own way and our table thought she was funny. Now, the food. The cool thing is that they seem to use locally sourced items to prepare their dishes. This was just the impression I got from our waitress, so I’m not sure if that’s true, but if it is then that’s great. Amongst our group, 2 people got eggs benedict, 1 got chesapeake eggs benedict, and 2 got the 3 egg omelete. The regular eggs benedict was better than the chesapeake because I couldn’t taste the crab under all the hollandaise. Still, they were all pretty good. The omelete was fluffy, but nothing extraordinary. All the dishes came with fresh fruit and fried potatoes. The potatoes were the best thing on the plate. Two people got drinks: a bloody mary and a mimosa. Both enjoyed their drinks, and the guy who got the bloody mary said it was veryyyy strong(if you’re into them like that). Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. The food wasn’t as great as I heard others say, but that might be because typical brunch food is typical brunch food. I would go back because it was a cute place, but next time, I’ll order off the regular lunch/dinner menu.

I’ve been here twice, both times for brunch, and each time the food was both excellent and moderately priced, and I’d definitely recommend it. Stay away from the Bloody Mary, it is watered down and flavorless – probably just V8, ice, and vodka. The mimosas are good and a deal at $ 3. I ordered the french toast both times, not remembering I had ordered it previously. Three thick pieces with a cup of fruit that included grapes, cantaloupe, honeydew, and strawberries, which were all good, although the melon was a bit firm. This time I added the sausage, and although I liked that it was just one large link, it was clearly pre-cooked and then only just warmed up. I’m willing to overlook the slow service because of the consistently good food and decent prices.

I came to Chez Andree for brunch with a large group, and everyone was really happy with it. The prices are very reasonable for their wonderful food. I had the veal scallopini, and it was very flavorful and perfectly tender, with a delicious, creamy mushroom sauce that I was able to slather all over the accompanying broccoli and rice. Others in the group tried the bagels and lox, french toast, mushroom omelette, and eggs benedict, and they all enjoyed their food. We finished it off with a slice of their giant, amazing, perfectly moist chocolate cake. I ate far more than I intended to, and it was so good, I don’t even regret it. And as if that wasn’t enough, they have $ 3 champagne, mimosas, and bloody marys during Sunday brunch. They also have a shaded patio with four large tables outside. As others have mentioned, the crowd is older, but if you’re going out to enjoy a good meal and bringing good company with you, it shouldn’t be a problem. I do have a few complaints: Before we got our food, the inside of the restaurant smelled kind of like a gross bathroom, even more so than the actual bathroom did. The bread was nothing special, and it fell apart when I tried to spread some of the cold pats of butter on it. My side of asparagus was soggy, but it was still decent enough that I finished it all. Service was not fast, but that wasn’t really a big deal, since we were there for a long, leisurely brunch anyway. Despite my complaints, the friendly service and high quality of the food mean I will absolutely be back many, many times in the future.

Recently went to Chez for the $ 30 deal(bottle of wine and 2 entrees). I had the pork loin with a mushroom sauce. For some reason whenever I order pork at a restaurant, it comes out over cooked. This time was no different. Maybe the issue is that the slice the pork so thin when the plate it. Or maybe it was overcooked to begin with. I guess I’ll never know. My friend ordered the seafood crepes, which were better than the pork dish but not amazing. For desert, I ordered the crème brûlée, but they were out of it. So I settled for the chocolate mouse, a cross between whipped ice cream and pudding. Needless to say, 3 out of 5 is the highest I can give Chez. The nice service and décor combined with the ok food keep it hovering at 3 for me.

Wow! Consistently delivers an excellent and very affordable brunch. I’ve eaten Sunday brunch once or twice a month at Chez Andree for many months now. I’ve selected dishes from the special brunch menu and lunch menu. Maryland crab eggs benedict is excellent. The chicken liver, lentils and sausage, smoked salmon plate, and french toast are also excellent. Can’t beat the $ 3 bloody mary. The place is eclectic, friendly, and a bit out of the ordinary. It has a special charm and uniqueness that is carried over into the excellent dishes. Prices are excellent. Sure the crowd tends to be a bit older(older and wiser in my opinion). Lots of parking is nice too. The Monday and Tuesday dinner and wine special is also great. Sure the waitresses have spirit, spark, and a honest saucy grit. They are really nice and provide good service. If you want cookie cutter, fake flash, hollow LA glitz, hit one of those overblown(& expensive) restaurants that deliver glossy plates with no soul. Chez Andree delivers french cuisine with passion, country honesty, great taste, and reasonable prices.

We’d been meaning to try Chez Andree for literally years. We finally made it a few days ago. We’d read the reviews and were ready for a geriatric crowd. Walking in, we were greeted by a very loud woman at the bar, then seated in one of the dining rooms by the hostess. Our waiter, Cliff, was great. The lady at the bar who regularly wandered back into the dining room to conversate loudly and in langauge that would have made a sailor blush? Slightly less awesome. We started with the onion soup. Well, my husband did. I was going to be moderate and just have an entrée. I tasted his and immediately asked our waiter to bring me a bowl of my own. Absolutely the highlight of the meal. Husband had one of the steaks and I had shrimp and fries. The sauce on the steak was very good and the garlic sauce on the shrimp was as well. The red cabbage served with both was delicious. Potatoes au gratin with the fries were also quite tasty. We had strawberries and ice cream, as well as lattes for dessert. The strawberries were quite good and the ice cream wasn’t fantastic, but decent. The lattes were a bit watery. Outside of the loud lady at the bar who didn’t stay at the bar, it was a nice, civilized dining experience. We took our time and were probably there two hours. Entrees were good, but I’d go back for the onion soup alone. I’d also be eager to try their house cake, which looked wonderful. Cliff was a great waiter and we felt very well taken care of. I really could have done without the loud, brash behavior of the woman I mentioned — who seemed to know everyone in the dining room except us. In fact, the whole place sort of felt like a dining club of regulars. They clearly get a lot of repeat business. I don’t know if we’d ever become regulars — the food is wonderfully rich — but I suspect we’ll be back.

So I used to work here as a busser about 6 years ago and I have yet found a better onion soup than this place. I live in Gainesville, VA and I still would drive 45 miles just to eat here. Yes, the clientele is dedicated toward the old side but it’s also a really good family restaurant. The original owners are French and the restaurant has been run by their children who don’t speak french. If you want an insider treat to this place, ask for their garlic bread. They don’t normally make it but if you ask for it, they will and it will make your mouth smell like garlic for the whole night. My personal favorites: Veal Sherry, Beef Stroganoff, Shrimp Curry, Seafood Crepes, Frog Legs, and Onion soup. One of the things you cannot pass up is their Chocolate Mousse Cake, that’s one of the best in the area. I’d admit, there are some things that aren’t as great, you just need to know what to order. Take note in this, sides are optional. If you don’t want french fries, don’t get it. They have a number of other sides you can go for. They try to evenly place a meal where it has the proper proportions meats, veggies, and starches and they don’t want to bombard you with one side, unless you as for it. Everything you order is customizable, you just have to ask for it. Take it from me, the old people really know how to take advantage of this. The servers are unique in their own way but they are fun in their own way. I’m not naming names so you can figure it out. There’s the gay guy, the foul mouth waitress, the Asian prejudice Asian guy and the really laid back manager. If you looking to meet a girl/guy here isn’t not gonna happen but if you want a good French meal with decent prices, this is the place to go. If you want to meet the original owner, she comes on Friday lunch.

This place is a wonderful delight with warm service and friendly atmosphere. Yes, there is an older crowd, but really, its all about the food! I’ve been coming to this place for over 15 years and the food is always top notch. The Monday and Tuesday night special is unbeatable with its two entrees and a bottle of wine for $ 30. Find that in Georgetown or Penn Quarter! I had the Seafood Crepes and a side of fries. The House Salad comes with an amazing Creamy Garlic dressing that is both good on the salad and for dipping the french fries. The crepes were light and airy and the sauce was just rich enough without being overbearing. Other dinner companions had the lamb and beef stroganoff and said they were really good. So good wine, good food and friendly service. Yay! I spoiled myself with a slice of the German Choc. cake which was the perfect combination of sweet and fluffy.
