History

Established in 2006.

In 2005, owners John Brennan, and Billy O’Sullivan decided to bring the experience of a modern Irish pub and restaurant to Alexandria. Over the next year, they labored to create a restaurant which would reflect what patrons would find if they ventured to Ireland, the country which had the fastest growing economy in all of the European Union at that time.

They brought in Irish carpenters and stonemasons to completely rebuild the restaurant at 112 King Street and install the ancient woodwork which was imported from various castles and monasteries throughout the Irish nation. They also understood the need to bring a modern understanding of Irish food and culture to the ancient Irish setting that they had recreated here in Alexandria. O’Connell’s simply could not be another stereotypical Irish pub, but must showcase the amazing leaps that the country has made not only in economic success, but in their culinary endeavors as well.
