Foxchase Apartments

Oh my, where to begin. I would give them no stars if possible. I lived here for a year and a half, and the first year was pretty smooth. Oh, except for Johanna, the office worker who kept trying to charge us an extra pet rent fee, and sending us notices to sue and/​or evict if we didn’t pay their fee. I called numerous times to have this corrected, and it only took about 3 months to get this problem fixed. No one in the management office seems to know what they are doing. There was also the fun morning where I was woken by firemen entering my apartment without notice as required by law. Then a few months later came the bed bugs. Normally the maintenance staff was quite good, but they really dragged their feet to do an inspection to find the bed bugs. It only took about 2 weeks to get the first treatment. Now that I know the look of the pest control vans, I see them around quite a bit, so I imagine the whole complex is infested with bed bugs. This is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with in every way possible. The price is not worth it. Move somewhere else, anywhere else. If you have to live here, please avoid Johanna as she is the worst, and make sure to frequent the local ABC liquor store because you will need a drink.

I have lived here since July and I cannot fully express my disappointment in words. Since moving in, our apartment has flooded twice, I have found a snake in my bedroom, not to mention endless millipedes and cockroaches.
Pair these issues with an unresponsive and completely incompetent management and maintenance team, and you will have an idea of what I’m dealing with.
Cramped, overpriced and a complete waste of money.
Coin operated laundry machines are not uncommon, and something that I could deal with, but if you are not going to properly maintain these machines then what’s the point? The «dryer» in our building hasn’t worked in over three months!
DO NOT MOVE HERE. LOOK ELSEWHERE.

Let me be clear, I do NOT recommend Foxchase. The ONLY pro is the price. I guess you get what you pay for.
1.When moving in, I noticed that the hallways had a strong smell of urine and the hallway carpet was soiled and stained. I put in a request and shortly after I noticed that hallway smelled of urine with a hint of flowers.
2.The regular parking is limited for tenants that do not pay extra for reserved parking.
3.The trash dumpster is always overflowing and trash can be found all around the dumpster.
4.A large tree fell onto one of the apartments during a storm and has been there for over two months.
5.It is difficult to get in contact with the main office to address issues.
6.Maintenance requests are answered quickly (not including pest issues). I have had a pest issue (MICE) for over 4 months. I have sent request to have this issue handled every two weeks (the time it should take for the treatment to work) for four months.
7. A water pipe broke during the day (on a weekend) and the water for the apartment had to be turned off. A maintenance rep came by and told us that our apartment was effected (He could tell by the swelling in the wall) He indicated that someone would come back to remove the area before a mildew problem developed. No one ever came buy. I called the office and was told that it was not necessary.
8. The complimentary shuttle is only good for people who get on at the first stop. Foxchase refuses to invest in a bus that can accommodate the large apartment complex.

DO NOT DO IT! THE MANAGEMENT COMPANY IS ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS – maybe they have too many units and therefore don’t care about losing any one resident… just remember that you are/​will be an insignificant NUMBER! Prepare to have your calls ignored and your service requests unfulfilled… but oh, when it’s time for them to collect their checks, they’ll be right on time, everytime. Absolutely horrendous, no good, poor customer service-​having complex. Save yourself some headache, AVOID AT ALL COST!

For some reason, you all are quick to answer maintenance calls EXCEPT when it involves pest control. Not cool.

Staff is terrible — they never respond to emails or calls. They will tell you ANYTHING to get more money from you.
I ended up breaking a lease 2 days after signing, and it cost me $ 4,700 total.
Lost job due to government shutdown last year and told the management company ASAP — hadn’t even moved in or spent a night in the apartment, but they were not willing to compromise.
I was moving back home to work at my old political job in South Carolina and literally handed them the keys and was up to date with first months rent and other fees, even tho I NEVER SPENT A NIGHT OR ACTUALLY LIVED IN APT. They told me in person they would see if they could undue everything due to unforseen circumstances.
2 months later I start getting phone calls from them and bills… ended up having to pay eviction fees which is laughable b/​c I never actually lived there and was back in SC during this time, they tacked on parking and cleaning and all sorts of other fees for those 2 months. Rude, unprofessional staff. Awful management company. In the end, it cost me almost $ 5k to get out of this place, b/​c I definitely didn’t want to tarnish my high credit score.
I was going to live here b/​c DC is crazy expensive and this was all I could afford, but try to avoid this place!
I live in Arizona now for my political work and recently looked at an Aimco property — soon as I saw it was AIMCO, I literally ran out the door.
DO NOT LIVE HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF — SMELLY HALLWAYS AND SHADY AREA.

2 years here now, and no major complaints. My apartment I’ve made comfortable, so that I can truly call it home, and I continue to feel safe.
My rating still lacks the one star, because the gyms could use new equipment, and when I ask for maintenance to call, or for me to be around during a maintenance fix, that never happens, however If I ever do have an issue, in the apartment: lights… little things, it does get done in a timely fashion, so kudos for that.
Just need that little extra push in my book Foxchase!

Great location, pleasant neighbors, no crime issues, not exorbitantly priced.
I initially had a hard time getting follow-​ups and quick response time on maintenance issues, but as of late, maintenance requests have been completed within 2 days.
I have no complaints… great place to live!

I lived in Foxchase for two years. Despite that I lived on the third floor, I had mice running in and out of my apartment. The apartment building smelled like a public bathroom at a football stadium! The office people are so incompetent and they have high turn over. I never talked to the same person twice! They kept scheduling my maintenance appointments but didn’t actually put them on schedule so I would take days off hoping the maintenance crew would show up but of course I wasn’t on their schedule… I finally had enough and found another place to move to… I gave 45 days to notice before my lease ended… they charged me a fine of $ 55 per day because I didn’t give a 60 days notice… they said even if I gave a 60 days notice they will still charged me the fine because it has to be exactly 60 days notice from the lease expiration date. They also charged me maintenance service charges twice! I ended up paying over one month rent for the one week I was there in November. They kept my security deposit of $ 500 and I received a bill for $ 894 bucks! and of course I was warned that if I didn’t pay it within 10 days it will go to collection. Foxchase is an awful corporation… they don’t care about their residents nor these reviews… they are the least expensive apartments in Alexandria but of course you get what you pay for…

I repeatedly went on to the foxchase website to pay rent on the 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd of this month, each time it claimed I had a zero ballance on my account for November. In anyone’s mind, this would mean that a payment isnt needed, yet. I then received, days later, a notice saying that I had a late charge of $ 100 because I had not paid rent on time. This is confusing. The account should have shown that I owed rent ON THE FIRST. The account ballance was clearly not posted on or before the 3^rd (otherwise I would have paid) it was posted AFTER. It also had a note saying that I could pre-​pay if I would like to… Prepay for a zero ballance? If rent was due on the first, why was it not posted on my foxchase account until after the 3^rd? I’m being charged a $ 100 late fee for an account ballance that was posted to my account LATE. This comes off as if the company intentionally posts the rent late in hopes of a late charge. This is VERY wrong. I want to talk to someone about this asap, please.
On top of this, anyone looking to move in to these apartments, I’ve barely lived here two months… When I say BARELY… I moved in late September, but never actually STAYED OR SLEPT in the apartment until end of October due to my job. Technically, I’ve been here less than two weeks.). Expect the worst. Although the apartments are very quiet, the one positive, I have repeatedly come across many bugs (crickets and centipedes) and the worst… Mice. I haven’t even put food in the apartment because I am never home, and yet I have mice! They bill you for MANY «processing fees» ON TOP OF rent, and then make excuses for them… I.E. I asked how I was being charged for gas (I had yet set up my gas through Washington Gas) and had not ever used either the heat (it’s been very warm these months) or the stove, which I can’t actually use because there aren’t even pilot lights due to no gas supply, both gas, yet was charged for gas through foxchase… When I asked how this was possible, no joke, they ltold me it was for the water heater… Ummmm, I already checked that before I called… I have an electric water heater… It’s under the kitchen counter and clearly states on the front ELECTRIC. Try again lady. ALSO, NEVER expect to find parking within any proximity (as in 5 blocks or less) of your apartment if you show up after 10pm… Parking is easily the worst I have EVER experienced. It’s MISERABLE. And the spots that are available, are tiny, so expect your car to take a beating. The cabinets are disgusting on the inside, use tack paper! Why the complex would replace ALL of the appliances with new ones, yet leave the 30 year old cabinets that are falling apart, rotting and have been eaten away by bugs and mice, is beyond me. I went to put 5 hangers of clothes in the closet. Yep, 5 hangers! And the entire closet shelf collapsed! Nothing else was on the shelf, just 5 hangers of clothes. Took OVER A WEEK to have it replaced… And I had to call 3 times just to get the guy to come fix it. This place is a rip off. Save yourself the money and time and find a place that’s actually worth it. I regret moving here.

Firstly, I would say one star still too much to give it to them.
I just finished my leave and I left for another place because of the following issues:
1) I was paying for one bedroom my self, however, others were living with me without my permission. Yes, what I mean by this that there was a mouse in the house. He/​was sharing the living room with me. The place is old and especially the stove. The mouse was in the stove. He had a warm place.
They never fixed this issue for me.
2) the leasing office are amazing and professional until you sign your lease then you belong to the residential office. Here couple things you should know:
– if you are busy professions. The residential office will never solve a simple issue by phone. You need to leave your job and go there just for asking a question. They are rude and I professionals. They have no clues about Custemer service and satisfaction of Custemer.
– they rarely answer or return your phone call.
– the maintenance people are not good. Emergency phone will be difficult to reach out. You will have to keep calling for many days.
3) one of the shuttle driver is unprofessional. They changed the shuttle to smaller one and you can not stand up once full you can not get in. After 20 minutes waiting then you have to walk to the city bus. This is especially for the 8 am bus.

Foxchase has made me very angry lately and Ive been to busy and stressed with other things to even begin to deal with the issues I’m having. One night I’m in the kitchen and a mice ran across my foot, of course I go running and screaming because I’m scared all hell. Immediately, I submit a service request, no one showed up the next day. Two days later, he shows up and tells me he has to speak to his supervisor, which made me think «well, why didnt you do that two days ago when you got the service request?» Anyway, I went to work two days later and came home to a note on my door that stated «keys did not work» (please not that one time I forgot my keys in the apartment and had to get someone to open it durinflg work hours, and the keys didnt work then either. So, they must have it mixed up with someone elses)!!! Now this is what made me angry, I receive an email a day later stating that my service request was completed. Which confused me because how could you complete something you didnt even have access to. I emailed them back to let them know that information is incorrect and they need to fix it… NO RESPONSE!!! With all these extra fews a minth for pest control and all the other bullshit, I expect to get my money worth and for what I’m paying for. Im beginning to think this is all a scam.

I just moved into Foxchase this month, and the apartments are absolutely gorgeous! I have a unit that’s a little further back from the woods, so I don’t hear any traffic at all.
However, since I am in the woods, I have had to spray for critters, but that’s to be expected in a wooded area. I haven’t had any major pest or critter problems. So far, so good!

We moved here last april
The place is nice and neighbors are nice too.
The leasing office agent was very helpful to us and it didn’t take us a long time to find an apartment and move there.
The apartment had broken drawer at the kitchen and broken handle of the microwave door and we asked to be changed before we move and it was taken care of in two days.
We also had a problem wz our stove … We submitted a seevice request and the guy came snd fixed it in time.
The only problem for us when we come home late at night it is hard to find a parking space.

So as I’ve been looking for other apartments in the area within a decent price range I notice that all of them are just about as equal to Foxchase. There’s always something I’m finding I’ll have to compromise or other bad reviews on Unilocal.
Pros of Foxchase:
–Parking. There is a good amount of parking and also parking for guest.
–pools.
–Hardwood floors
–Nice closet space with mirrors.
–Decent bathroom.
–maintenance comes out in a decent time.
Cons:
–Kitchen cabinets. Very woody, not smooth on inside.
–Bugs (roaches, house centipedes, spiders, flying ants). I’ve had minor issues with them all. I’m a very clean person so that may help that now I’m noticing I don’t have these issues. Also I spray biweekly and have pest control out whenever and as soon as I spot any insect. Luckily my issues never got out of hand because of this.
— the gym closest to me is always very hot and there are never any sanitation wipes available. Limited equipment compared to other apartment communities in the area.
— management can be hard to deal with but I rarely ever need them so this isn’t such a big deal.

I moved in about 4 months ago and wanted to give this place a little time to settle before I wrote my review, so here goes…
To start, let me say, you get what you pay for. If you want a perfect apartment, you’re gunna pay for it, especially in NoVA. I moved into the area from out of state and was having a heinous time finding a place. My friend and I were looking all over, and we’d fall in love, and then the apartment would be gone by the next day. If you are apartment hunting right now, my advice, strike while the iron is hot, or you’re gunna end up in Foxchase.
This place is alllllll about appearances. They will do whatever it takes to get you to sign the lease, be soooo nice to you in the office, show you the beautiful model apartment, but once you move in… LOOK OUT. Drive around the entire complex, there are 200(ish) different buildings. Look at the actual apartment you are renting, the parking situation, everything! Pay attention to the exterior of the buildings and you’ll notice they only took the time to repaint the buildings on the main road, and sometimes, the only paint the half of the building you can see from the road. Their policy on painting is pretty much their policy on everything.
I’ll start with the positives. The location is great, you are minutes from a pretty good shopping area, 24-​hr Harris Teeter, and Duke St has a ton of stores, banks, etc… The entrance to 395 is SO close. There are a few gym facilities, minimal equipment, but enough to keep me happy. There’s also a few pools in the complex. And you really can’t beat the price. If you have a flexible move-​in date, it’ll be helpful. My friend and I moved in a week apart and she pays $ 200 bucks more a month than I do! I moved into one of the apartments with the updated «hardwood» floors. I use quotes because it’s not wood at all, it’s laminate. It looks nice, but it’s CHEAP and probably won’t last long. The maintenance here is UNBELIEVABLE! I love them. I have had several issues since moving in and they are always there to fix it within 24 hours, but I’ve had times where it’s taken them minutes to respond.
And on to my concerns… I will admit, I may be a little jaded on the place because I had a pretty dismal move-​in experience, but I’ve cooled down a bit.
Parking here is awful, all the time. Mostly because, as some others stated, people double park or stay for days.
Fun Fact: The main office is closed on Wednesday and Sunday. Hopefully you never have a problem on a Tuesday night (like I have) cause they won’t even start thinking about it until Thursday morning.
The day I moved in, my apartment was flooded. The entire bedroom carpet was soaking wet with approximately a half inch of water. so I called the office, then went to the office, was pushed around between 3 – 4 office staff until finally someone told me to submit a work request online. I had JUST moved in, had no internet yet, and had no idea how to even go about that!
So I submitted a request at a friends apartment, and a fleet of maintenance guys showed up the next morning. I was REALLY concerned about mold. They tore up the carpet and replaced the wall that was soaked. It was explained to me that it was a fluke, and it wouldn’t happen again. They said that there had been a lot of rain the last few days, and the drainage just couldn’t keep up. I kept a close eye on the repairs, and stayed with a friend for a few days (which is important later in this review) while they did the work and let everything dry out. I kept stopping in to check on the status of things, and took pictures. While all this was going on, I tried to get moved to another apartment. I started a new job in a few days and didn’t really have time to wait around for this nonsense. They COMPLETELY ignored me. I called, emailed, went into the office. It was a big fiasco, and the impression I got from EVERY SINGLE PERSON I INTERACTED WITH was «too bad, so sad, you already signed your lease.» No one would help me, no one cared. I was already stuck. I am still waiting for my calls to be returned. I won’t hold my breath.
The flood clean up was a joke, they lifted the carpet, cut out the wall that was wet, and just replaced it. They didn’t do anything to clean up or prevent mold/​mildew. Will attach pictures so you can see the disgusting mess. They didn’t even give me new carpet. They just brought in a big fan and replaced thepadding under the carpet. The head clean up guy actually went as far as to lean some tools up over the one spot so I didn’t look behind it, cause there was some serious damage.
Will it flood again? Will I get rampant black mold outbreak? Only time will tell…

I have lived in fox chase for two years, I don’t know where to start…
Pros:
the apartments are not towers, you will be living with few ppl/​family in your building.
Cons:
1. If you are living in fox chase, u should be okey li live with mice in your apartment.
2.the monthly rent looks okey, compared to other apartments, but don’t get fooled, they will add other 7 or 8 payments on different names like, pest control, parking if your rent is ($ 997 expect to pay $ 1350 — $ 1400…
3. Ignorant management, the leasing office will give you amazing service, but after you sign your lease, you will never see those people again, instead you will live with ignorant management «team».
I can say a lot about fox chase, but I am really tired of talking about it, usually I am not a kind of person that writes reviews, but I really don’t want anyone to experience what I’ve went through.
Conclusion: I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU TO RENT AT FOXCHASE «APARTMENTS»

I have been living here for 7 months and think that I can write a fair review right now.
When you first move to here you really like it. I live in a «Gadsby» townhouse and have to say that it is really comfortable with a dining room and two bedrooms which have baths inside. If you share the house with another person or have parents as guests for some time, this is a perfect place. Except rush hours there is usually no traffic if you have to drive to DC area and it takes no more than 15 – 20 mins.
But if you plan to move here, you have to be prepared to pay at least $ 400 – 450 for the bills especially during the winter. This month (March) I paid $ 454 total for water and sewer ($ 140), electricity ($ 107), gas ($ 174) and internet ($ 33). I paid $ 400 for the same bills last month. You may think that this might be seasonal and due to the winter, but I was paying at least $ 300 – 350 during the autumn. I live with my wife and new born child and don’t think that I have to pay such high bills for 3 people.
If I had known that I would pay $ 2050-​$ 2100 (including $ 1560 for rent) every month I wouldn’t move to here and look for an apartment/​condo closer to DC. The rents are higher there, but you usually pay just for rent and electricity. Currently, I understand that I made a wrong decision by moving here. I could find a similar place for the same rent in a more central area.

If you like living in a bug, cockroach and mouse infested apartment then this is the place for you!
Seriously though, stay away from this place. It’s an absolute nightmare.
