I just had dinner at this restaurant and i will give 3 stars only because of its wine, atmosphere and appetizers, the other two stars were not made up by its main course, it was bland and not well seasoned. It could had been improved just a little bit. Over all it was a ok visit.

My boyfriend and I came here for New Year’s Eve dinner for our first time, and I only have good things to say. Because it was a busy night, I thought our service might be rushed, but our waiter was so patient and courteous the whole time. Our appetizer, meal, and prosecco were all delicious and very good quality Italian food. I really liked the ambiance of the upstairs, because we were able to sit in front of the window and watch the people walk down below by the waterfront. The building is very old and kind of romantic. I definitely recommend stopping here for a good comfort meal!

You know how people like to say, «I know a little Italian place…» well, Il Porto is that ‘little Italian place’ you can recommend. There are no bells and whistles here as far as décor or ambiance. But there is a nice selection of tasty Italian dishes to choose from. I came here for lunch with a very large group of folks from a conference at the Hilton up the street. We settled upon Il Porto just after noon and there was almost no one there. Granted, it was a Wednesday and this might be more of a dinner crowd type place, but yeah, we were pretty much the only people there. They do have a nice selection of lunch options. I did not have any pasta, however, I chose something from the sandwich menu and I was fairly happy with my choice. I’d like to try this place for dinner and get a nice authentic Italian dish.

Really enjoyable reasonable meal in Old Town. My husband had the fruitta del mar and I had the eggplant parmesan. Both had great sauces. The flourless chocolate desert is fab. The historic traditional setting is romantic and the service is friendly without being overbearing.

Perfectly acceptable. I would happily go back to Il Porto if others picked it, but it wouldn’t be high on my list. The service was generally good, although surprisingly slow with the check after I declined dessert saying I planned to catch a show. Probably just unlucky timing. The food was good, not spectacular. We had a seafood dish and a chicken dish in a creamy sauce. I liked the reasonable portion sizes. Our table was very nice, as was the rustic ambience. The prices are a bit high for comparable quality dishes in the area.

Excellent lunch price point for what you get. I had the manicotti with cream sauce and added chicken. It was one of my favorite meals I’ve had since living in Old Town the last year and a half. I’m bummed I didn’t go earlier, but we try to try out each restaurant on King. We enjoyed the weather on a nice November afternoon and sat outside to people watch. The interior was nice and bathrooms clean. Service was good.

Went here for my 2 year anniversary with my girlfriend. Loved everything about it. The service was great and the pasta was phenomenal. Our waiter was nice and gave us time to enjoy ourselves. Dessert capped off a wonderful evening. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. 5⁄5.

Great Italian food, and also greater service. There’s a few Italian restaurants in this area but il Porto is my favorite one.

A very real Italian experience, especially impressed with the flavorful herbs used in the sauce. We had pasta Alla Veneziana and Gamberi alla Marina. Overall, I give good marks to Il Porto!

Went here last night for restaurant week with a friend. I was seated immediately at a nice table next to the window, also meant being right at the door unfortunately. The server was mostly attentive however he told both of us different things about the menu than what arrived at our table. The food was good but didn’t take me over the edge. I’m spoiled from having Italian in Italy but just wasn’t what I was hoping for.

Meal was fabulous, very nice menu selection. Prompt and courteous staff. Interior is a bit of old world flavor. It is in the heart of Old Town Alexandria! and on the trolley line which you can pick up from the metro.

My first complaint: The host/waiter felt it necessary to seat our party of 4 all the way in the corner at a small table with wobbly chairs(or a very uneven floor) although the restaurant was almost empty. I’m also a little surprised by some reviewers claiming to have had pizza there as Il Porto does not offer pizza. That’s my second complaint. I get that they are trying to be an «upscale» Italian restaurant that is so above pizza, but come on! You’re telling me there’s no way to make some interesting, fancy pizza? Anyway, the food I had there(Capellini Primavera) was nothing special, rather bland actually and overpriced for what you get. They have a separate wine menu but on neither menu any information about what non-alcoholic drinks they might be offering…

Overall, a good dining experience. The service was 5 star, and they were very accommodating to me and my students, who I went with. The server was kind enough to work with our tight timeline. The food was just not that good which is why I gave it 3 stars. My pasta, the vegetable primavera was pretty flavorless. The salad needed something as well.

My husband and I went here for valentine’s Day. We had reservations. We were seated upstairs. At first, I was very uncomfortable, the place was packed like anchovies in a can. Not only was it busy, but the seats and tables were too close together. My husband and I were seated at a 2 top table, but I was wedged very tight between the wall and table and I’m 7 months pregnant. Even if I sat in my husband’s chair, I would have been stuck between the table and another party and my baby belly made it hard to get out of the area. I could hear my neighbors conversation on both sides we were that packed. We had appetizer of mussels, it was good(lemon was a little harsh), salads and bread, and the main course which was excellent(pasta Primavera aragosta) and my husband and I shared desserts of a lemoncello thing, and tartufo(nom nom nom nom). The service was good and staff was polite. I would return, but probably after I pop out this baby.

The service is why I gave 3 stars. The food was just ok. For 3 people our check was $ 115, I expected more out of the food. We got linguini with white clam sauce x2 and chicken parmesan along with calamari appetizer. It could have been from Olive Garden and… I must say I’d rather have their garlic bread sticks for half this price too! You get a basket of bread & some sliced butter with your meal, it was ok, nothing special. We sat upstairs next to the fire place which was very nice, it was a very cold night and the fire was really great to sit next to. The staff was very attentive and made sure we had what we needed. They do have a good wine and beer selection. The deserts we did not decide to try, typical tiramisu, chocolate cake and cappuccinos were offered. We went on a Saturday night and had a reservation, but there was only a handful of people, we didn’t need one. Maybe Well go back and try something different another time.

Professional and attentive service. Delicious Food cooked to perfection. Ambiance of experience. Cleanliness and presentation Opera music playing in background All the essentials were covered beautifully. Sitting at a window seat, people watching just made everything better. Try to go here during off hours or a bit early. You know how things can get when they’re too crowded. Il Porto gets a big crowd during peak hours. Why? Because they do it right. The sauces are exquisite and the fish, meat and pasta cooked to perfection.

This place is more like il garbago. I came here for dinner with my boyfriend and a mutual friend and none of us had decent pasta dishes. I ordered a lasagna and the noodles and meat were COLD. It looked like one of those small Stouffer microwaveable dinners you throw in the oven or microwave, but it wasn’t even cooked all the way. UGH. The guys had linguine pasta and they both thought the dish was watered down and extremely tasteless. My friend has since told me this place is the worst restaurant we’ve been to in the D.C. area(and he isn’t even picky about food). We all agreed that we rather eat at Olive Garden than here.
