MedGen Urgent Care

My husband took my 2 year old here on Christmas Eve bc our pediatrician wasn’t available. She had a horrible cough and had a fever for a week. After taking her in to our pediatrician’s office and seeing a random doctor who misdiagnosed her with an ear infection, giving us unnecessary antibiotics and even saying her lungs sounded great, we decided to take her here since her lungs didn’t sound great to me. The PA listened to her lungs and was able to tell us she had a bad case of bronchitis. She put her on a nebulizer, gave her a steroid shot to suppress her cough and a steroid cough syrup to use at home. Her bronchitis went away in two to three days, max. It’s also worth noting that I am a very picky with any doctor working with my child due to some really bad experiences in the past (obviously at other medical facilities!) so it’s saying a lot that I would trust this urgent care with either of my children’s medical needs! They were wonderful and very knowledgable!

So clean. Everyone there was so nice. This really was the best possible experience I could have had.

I have to agree with the other reviewer below Kara Y. Initially I was excited by the convenience of the location with a CVS pharmacy across the street and the guy-​Axl at the front desk was very nice acting as a receptionist and nurses assistant. another guy took me to a back room and took my vitals he didn’t tell me whether I was good to bad normal or not he only said the doctor would be in shortly. Turns out a physicians assistant came into the room but she did not introduce herself. I was very clear with the previous gentleman and this PA that I was not comfortable sitting but got more relief from standing or lying down. On a scale of 1 to 10 at the time of my visit the pain in my right leg wasn’t ⁸⁄₉. I came to the urgent care to avoid a very expensive emergency room visit and I also knew that they had an x-​ray machine on site if they need it to run additional test. This physicians assistant had me squeeze her hands, she looked at my back and then she had me kick my left and right foot. I told her that after many days of feeling the pain and doing some research I felt that my symptoms were consistent with a «piriformis» type strain with Sciatica. Without offering any real feedback she said that I was showing unilateral weakness on one side and that she didn’t want to treat me in this facility. She was adamant that I needed to go to the ER immediately and that she would call 911. I have to admit I wish I could see my face because I felt panicked. Never in my mind was I expecting my 37-​year-​old self to be having a stroke when I’ve been having the same pain in my leg for 10 days. I told this woman about a previous car accident and how the same pain repeats itself once or twice a year. After calling a friend and my husband I had to get out of this place. There are 3 basic indicators of an on coming stroke. If any of these five symptoms appear suddenly, you may be having a stroke:
numbness or weakness of the arm, face, or leg, especially on just one side of the body
confusion, trouble speaking, or understanding speech
trouble seeing in one eye or both
trouble walking, loss of balance, lack of coordination or dizziness
severe headache without a known cause
All of these symptoms are seen in both men and women.
With the exception of the leg pain which I’ve had for over 10 days. None of these other items were affecting me.
I am NOT impressed. I she was way off base and unprofessional in her snap diagnosis and careless/​uncaring overall.
I am not saying the whole practice is bad but I would definitely avoid this particular practitioner should you have no choice but to visit this facility. The office manager and the young man axle were very apologetic and sympathetic to me in the moments after I walked out of the office and on the sidewalk were I was in tears. I think the most upsetting thing is after receiving no treatment and to leave that upset they still requested a $ 35 co-​pay. Needless to say I was too upset angry to give them $ 35 and requested they bill me maybe with some letter writing they will write this particular visit off!

I visited this location on October 5^th for a medical emergency as a walk-​in patient, and I must say that my overall experience with the office staff was nothing less than stellar!
Upon visiting the office, I spoke to the office receptionist Stacy in regards to the specific procedures and payments required being that I was in between healthcare providers. After speaking to her manager, she called me back and graciously provided me with a detailed breakdown of the fees due, directions to the office, and instructions on how to submit a claim to my insurance provider once my policy had been generated with my new job.
When I arrived to the office, Stacy greeted me with a smile and carefully assisted me with the completion of my new patient paperwork and the collection of fees due for my visit. I was thoroughly impressed with her superior level of customer service, and with the clean appearance of the waiting room area of the office.
My physician Abeba was very thorough, professional and highly knowledgeable of the nature of my illness, having provided me with the best possible recommendations for treatment considering my issue of not having adequate insurance coverage at the time of my visit. She made me feel very comfortable and at ease throughout the entire process, and made sure to follow-​up with me up to a week after my initial treatment to make sure my illness had surpassed.
Before leaving the office, I was introduced to the clinical manager, Rachél, and the CEO, Clelia, whom both presented themselves in a highly, enthusiastic and professional manner. Clelia was very accommodating and understanding of me not having an existing insurance policy, and kindly directed me to contact her once my policy had been received within the next week, so that she can submit a claim for reimbursement.
Once I submitted the required insurance policy documents via e-​mail, the receptionist Jennifer kindly informed me that my information has been properly updated into their database, and recommended that I contact the office within a week to check the status of my reimbursement. After 1 week, I e-​mailed the office and Clelia directly as I was told to do so, and received a very detailed and prompt response containing specific dates of when my claim was processed, and given a very adequate time frame of when I can expect a refund for having to pay out of pocket.
Ultimately, my doctor’s visit, from my initial phone call to my last e-​mail communication with Clelia, has been very effortless, pleasant and certainly memorable having visited several other Urgent Care facilities in this area. Each office member I have encountered definitely represent the brand well, and because of the consistent level of customer service has been excellent thus far, I am very confident and trusting that I will receive my refund in time. I HIGHLY recommend MedGen Urgent Care to those who may be in search of a regular doctor, or if you just need to take care of an urgent medical issue. Now that I have my insurance issues resolved, I will definitely be back to satisfy any future medical needs!

DO NOT RECOMMEND. So incredibly disappointed. I told my 10 year old here. First thing that happens is that an ambulance comes to take away another patient… worrisome, but I assume it’s incredibly unusual. When we got taken back to see a doctor, it seemed the nurse was nice but new. Asked me to hold a culture for strep, as an example. We wait, the doctor comes in and doesn’t introduce himself. Says he hears wheezing in my son’s lungs and says his mono test and flu test were negative. No medicine and 30 minute wait for discharge instructions. Less than 24 hours later I take him to his regular doctor and then he has strep and they tell me a mono test was not only not needed but is a blood test, not a swab. The wheezing needed a breathing treatment, also not prescribed. Totally incorrect diagnosis and in my opinion dangerous. Have absolutely no faith in the medical staff here.

Clean. Fast. Thorough. Chelsea was excellent and available after my appointment when I had problems with the pharmacy – darn CVS! I just moved back here and wanted to be seen quickly because I have a 3 yo son. The clinic was open later than my doctor’s office, they were nice to my son, accommodating w/​him (watching the wi-​fi Net flicks) when I had to go do a urine sample. I would highly recommend this place (that until now I never noticed was tucked away between Giant & Starbucks). You don’t notice these clinics until the second you need them!

I never comment on Unilocal but felt I had to share such a great experience. This urgent care is clean and modern. They make sure you are seen quickly. Kelsey Bruce, PA-​C, was friendly, thorough and knowledgeable. She even laughed at my corny joke :). Would definitely recommend!

Wish we could rate this place up all five stars because of its exceptional service.
I had to take my wife in here about a month ago because she sprained her foot and the staff was so friendly, quick, and caring.
We were really concerned about her foot and didn’t want to go to an ER because of our one month newborn baby and the germs around.
This place was clean, fast, and provided excellent service to getting us in and out as fast as they could while being thorough, understanding, and ensuring that my wife was taking care of.
Thank you MedGen for going above and beyond and taking care of us, and we are sorry for not writing this review earlier.

Went there this morning for a bad UTI. I was impressed — I couldn’t see my doctor and it beat the ER. The facility was clean, very clean– great sign. I was handled with care by Stacy on check-​in and Alli was nice to do the vitals and weight. I really liked
Abeeba– the PÅ. Knowledgeable, great bedside
Manner, very sweet. I was off with a prescription that subsided my pain and uncomfort within hours. This is where healthcare is going — and I liked it — quick, affordable, and great for routine stuff! Go there when your doctor is full and Er not needed.

I was visiting my mother-​in-​law who lives in Old Town this past weekend and my 8 year old daughter came down with a fever and tummy pain. We needed to fly back to California the next day and I was afraid we were going to have to cancel our flight. MedGen was down the street (we had never noticed it before but I hear it is new) and we had a really positive experience there. The doctor and staff were so welcoming, and they took great care of my daughter. It turns out she had an urine infection and because we needed to fly home they gave her an antibiotic shot. The next morning she was totally better and we were so grateful. We were lucky they were open on the weekend when we needed them!
