A family owned & operated business since 1943, we offer service & installation of heating and air conditioning equipment to the residents of Northern VA & DC. Moran’s offers repair services for all makes & models, and we offer 24 hour emergency services. We are an authorized American Standard Customer Care Dealer, and well as providing installation of other brands such as Rheem, Carrier, Unico and more. Moran’s technicians are NATE & CFC certified, and regularly participate in continuing education classes to stay up to date on the latest technology in the field of HVAC.

Moran’s Refrigeration Service, Inc. was established in 1943 by Herma Moran. For over 65 years our mission has been to provide dependable, competitive, and consistently outstanding services to the residents of the Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia areas. Charles H. Moran III now carries on our long– standing tradition of honest service your family can rely on. Joining the company in 1972, he began his career as a service technician. Over the last 41 years he has gained professional expertise in both service and design. Each year he travels to factory service and design training seminars to stay current on the latest technologies available. Mr. Moran custom designs each system we install after performing a comprehensive evaluation of your heating or cooling needs. Specializing in both residential and commercial heating and air conditioning, as well as commercial refrigeration, we employ only licensed, insured, and highly trained technicians. We service all makes and models.

My heat stopped working in the middle of cold spell. Jesse, the Moran’s service tech, was at my house within a few hours of me calling and was knowledgeable and efficient. It turned out I needed a new furnace and Jesse did a great job of walking me through the process. The installers were at my house at 9:00 am the next morning to install the furnace. A great experience and I definitely recommend using Moran’s.

In the middle of a cold snap, our heat refused to work. We had our regular service provider come out and check our HVAC. They wasted our time and money (which is another review for another day) and finally diagnosed the problem. The verdict: we needed a new HVAC.
Moran’s was recommended by a plumbing company that works in my building regularly. They were responsive and friendly. Out of the 3 quotes we received, Moran’s presented the most affordable solution to our HVAC woes. Our condo is large and needs a 4 ton unit vs. a 2 ton unit. In addition to being the most reasonable, Moran’s service was also excellent. My husband and I are pleased with our experience and would use them in the future.

Dennis has done an excellent job servicing our HVAC unit and showing us how to best use the system. When we moved in, we had some issues with the unit and he was very patient in making sure that we knew what we needed to make the system work most efficiently. We will continue to use Moran’s for our HVAC needs without worry that we will be ripped off. They are reliable and honest.

I bought a house in DC (Brookland) and wanted to get the HVAC system checked out. They gave the system a thorough inspection, cleaning and recharge. They showed me how to operate the particular model of thermostat I had and how to setup timing of temperatures over the day to save energy. Highly recommended!

Moran’s has been servicing the house I rented for 10 years. When I finally bought my own I called them. They came out and were on time. They also noticed a few corners the developers cut and walked me through each concern and then fixed them on the spot. I would highly recommend them.

Rude, brash and discriminatory. Based on a referral, I contacted Moran’s for residential HVAC service. Their Unilocal page would lead one to believe that they service the DC Metro Area. The representative asked for my address and then placed me on hold. When she returned I was curtly advised that they don’t «go that far up in the District» and recommended I contact a provider in MD.
I was surprised by her response as the distance from their establishment to my home is approximately 15 minutes (as confirmed via Mapquest once I was rushed off the phone). Bottom line — every business is entitled to determine their service area. However, if their decision to deny services is based on an individual’s quadrant of the city, they’re NOT actually providers of the DC Metro Area.
After reading the very mixed reviews and negative comments, seems as though I dodged a bullet on subpar service and non-​existent customer service. My money and I thank you for saving us the grief.

My experience with Moran’s essentially led to us wasting $ 700 on a junk A/​C unit. My initial interaction was quite positive; the technician was friendly, helpful, and timely, even pointing me to a coupon to save 10% on that day’s service.
But ultimately, they recommended adding Freon to an outdated unit (which takes the much more expensive Freon) that was leaking (though they assured the leak was not severe enough to not add Freon until they could fully fix it the following week). Within 10 days, the Freon had apparently leaked out again, and we were left with a house without cool air circulating during one of the warmest points of the summer.
Perhaps even worse was the customer service following the initial service. We were constantly getting passed around to different people who weren’t aware of our issue, or couldn’t give us a straight answer about repair vs. replacement, much less a good estimate on the cost of recommended repairs. We waited days on end for a promised call back. It was quite frustrating, especially considering the money we’d already dropped on the unit.
Ultimately, after continued frustration, we went with another company which immediately recommended full replacement, including the heating unit. They said they would have never recommended a repair given condition, age, and the fact that it took the older Freon. If we had used the company in the first place, it would have save us money and more importantly, several weeks of being truly miserable in a non-​air conditioned house.

I’ve used them for many years over multiple properties and only have nice things to say. Although for checkups and minor issues a technician comes out, Moran himself comes for larger projects. I had to replace an entire system and he gave me multiple options, explained didn’t items or issues in detail, etc.

Serious Dishonesty abounds with these clowns, who laughed (hahahahah) in my face when a clean cut overly qualified brilliant gentleman specialist confirmed that they have been robbing you for years. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — –Paid Moran Oodles of maintenance contract fees for nothing. Zero-​Zilch. Unit was never even looked at inside, had dirt, buildup, cobwebs and grime on the unit as though they never even looked inside. No refrigerant ever added either… Unbelievable, how rotten and nasty and vindictive their attitude gets when you mention and report these facts as explained to us and even shown to us by the trustworthy professional and awesome and extremely knowledgeable clean cut gentleman (this guy was great by the way) courteous, respectful, helpful and –you would would love this fellow… Moran’s father, I hear through the grapevine, may have been OK but his son who took over is a big bag of sea bird guano seem to be true to what is reported. Very bizarre experience. I really feel we were violated. Well, what go4s around comes around.

I do not recommend this company. I took off work to be in the apartment when the technician should have arrived. We waited days to have the air conditioner serviced, and at the last minute receive a call that they do not service our units at all. If the company had been better organized they should have called sooner. Now I need to take off the rest of the day from work, to wait for a different company to arrive in a large window of time. With an incredibly busy schedule this is very inconvenient.

I called Morans to schedule an appointment to have my AC serviced. They made the appointment, spoke with my landlord for authorization, got her credit card number, and quoted a price. The appointment was two days later.
30 minutes before the scheduled appointment time, they call and cancel, citing that they don’t service our type of unit. No apology. It’s 100 degrees outside and the day before a long weekend. I could have used them time to research someone that actually does work on my unit. This is the first time they mentioned this and they completed wasted our time.
Steer clear of this business.

Moran’s 6÷26÷14 posting alleges that my $ 479 was refunded. Not true. They did give me a 10% discount and refunded the $ 79 balance of the yearly contract, which I had paid in advance. My critical comment stands. Their «emergency» service is pure gouging of a 20+ year customer.

I’d love to give more than 5 stars. They were a lifesaver! It’s in the 90s today and I came home from work to discover my AC was blowing hot air. I called after the Unilocal company info said they were closed. I was assuming I’d have to leave a message and wait a day or more for a repair. To my surprise, not only did they answer, but there was a repairman at my house within an hour. He showed me the problem with the system, explained my options and repeatedly warned me that if the freon from my old system had leaked out, it wouldn’t be cheap to replace it. The bill ultimately was pretty high (but I don’t think it’s unreasonable for the nature of the repair) and is only a temporary fix, but the repairman did not try to mislead me or overcharge. I still need to replace the system, but this repair bought me time to do the research for a replacement system and I will definitely get an estimate from Moran’s for the replacement. They earned repeat business.
I highly recommend Moran’s for emergency and routine maintenance. I only discovered them by reading Unilocal reviews, so thank you to all the other reviewers for encouraging me to call them today!

Our AC went out last night in the middle of the DC area’s hottest week of the year… temps are in the upper 90s, but feel more like the 100s. When we woke up this morning, we called Moran’s, assuming they wouldn’t be able to get out here immediately and that we would have to abandon house for a day or more. However, they arrived within an hour of our initial phone call. The technician quickly diagnosed the problem and had the part on hand to fix what was broken. We had our AC up and running again in no time, and being 6 months pregnant, I was relieved and incredibly thankful. They are clearly competent, professional and effiicient.

My property manager been using Moran’s on my rental propertIes for years fix the heat and air-​conditioning when need fix. Last week, I need have my own air-​conditioning fix. It seemed normal to me to call Moran’s. I am glad I did. I sign up for a service plan that include a spring and a fall maintenance. I get discount on labor if anything go wrong in between the service. Best of all they show up on time. That is important to a deaf person since I can’t hear the door buzzer, I have to watch out window when a service company is due to come my place. I really feel my money is well spent on Moran’s.

These guys are fabulous. Get a yearly service contract with them for your heating and A/​C. Trust me. I needed them today to fix the heat and they came out within a few hours and took care of it right away. Reasonably priced, prompt, and competent — a rare combination.

Frank came by and quickly determined why my a/​c wasn’t working efficiently. He said that I had my fan set incorrectly on my thermostat, and that my temperature was set too high. He also said I needed to have some coolant added to my unit.
This was a relief. I really didn’t know what to expect and just assumed that all mechanics and repair men are crooks that would try to get you to buy a new something…
Anyways, he even called me at 830PM just to make sure the A/​C was working properly 5 hours after he left.

We use Moran’s for our yearly servicing of our heating system (boiler and radiators) and they are great. Friendly, nice folks who do a good job and don’t try to scare you into work you don’t need. I definitely recommend them.
