We strive to provide the best shopping experience for all of our customers with a diverse produce section and foods from all over the world. You can find ethnic groceries from Latin America, Asia, Africa, and India. We also have a wide selection and cut-​style of meats and seafood that cater to our multicultural clientele.

Our Alexandria location opened in late November 2013.

History

Established in 2013.

Green Paradise Enterprises founded New Grand Mart in August 2013 with its first store, in Falls Church, VA (formerly known as Grand Mart — Seven Corners). Following the acquisition of its second store (formerly Grand Mart — Alexandria, VA) in November 2013, New Grand Mart opened two new stores in Langley Park, MD (July 2014) and Richmond, VA (May 2015).

New Grand Mart specializes in ethnic groceries from Latin America, Asia, India, and Africa. Each store is unique from one another, as they cater to the different demographics of each location.

Green Paradise Enterprises also has a distributor company which supplies New Grand Mart with produce and seafood – delivered fresh, daily.

CEO, Mr. Kyoo Lee, announced recently, plans to open a second Richmond area store in the near future.

The rudest owner and manager ever! Don’t buy anything form there specially fish, vegetable and tomato. They all give you stomach ache and yea the kids food also they also carry expired staffs and when you tell the owner or whatever he gets mad at you for finding that out! Don’t go there

New Grand Mart is an international grocery store, offering products from Southeast Asia, Central America, and West Africa. They have a good selection of produce, especially vegetables. The place is a little cramped, and the selection in the snacks department is a bit smaller than other stores. However, I do appreciate that they have the Ume Plum (mehshil) drink that I’m obsessed with, as these are difficult to find as they are hardly ever in stock! The staff here are pretty friendly, and they do their best in trying to locate certain items for you.

Not a bad market to stock up on some fruits and vegetables for a very low price. Being so close to DC it’s a much more palatable option than sticking around in the district and paying obscene prices for a small sampling of fruits. There are also some very unusual tropical fruits that you can find and are really yummy. I found some incredible red mombin, gigantic papaya, fresh dragon fruit, delicious jack fruit, morinda, and some very fresh lychees. All I paid was $ 25 and got a half shopping cart full of fruits and veggies. By the way, you need to wash all of these thoroughly as they could have easily been in the same truck as the raw meats and fish. The fish and meat section might look appealing but make sure you really look closely at it before you make the purchase. The sections of spices and other dry goods can also be a bargain — just check expiration dates.

It’s alright but has a surprisingly limited selection. I was craving some mochi ice cream and they only had one brand (which I bought and seems like it melted and refroze — icy and soggy at the same time). Couldn’t find the Choco Pie. This is a convenient location right off of 395, but if I have a little more time I’ll head over the H Mart instead.

Good place to buy your fruit and vegetables!
Cheeper then shoppers or Walmart,
I always buy my fruit and vegetables there .
To bed the they have Terrible smell ‚
Sometime they don’t have fresh fruit but I have to say that they have a lot of verity of vegetables and fruits that no a lot of place have .
They also have some stuff that i never sow but. I did try and its good and testy.

My fiancé loves this place but the employees are not one bit helpful and even rude. Every time he asks them a question about produce which they must know, they shrug and grimace. i cant stand going in bc it stinks. Bad parking lot, too. But again, he loves it for the product, not the people.

I have been here once, which is probably not enough to get a truly good feel for a store, but I did have one complaint that I felt was Unilocal worthy. I came here looking for sugarcane, which is apparently out of season. I had no idea where to find it, or honestly what it even looked like as I’ve never bought it before. The first two people I talked with, had absolutely no idea what I mean when I said ‘sugarcane’. That can be understandable, but in my opinion, they should have directed me to someone who would be able to understand me. I had to such for such a person myself. Not a bad experience, but it could have been better.

Yes! It has the typical Asian supermarkets smell, which I can not stand with longer than 5 minutes.
Yup! They have many kinds of unique foods. I wish they put some recipes. I want to try everything but I have to google them.
Yah!!! Seafood is cheap. Lobster is $ 8.99bl. According to some pictures other people posted, it is sometimes $ 5.99bl.

New Grand Mart has been my source for live lobster. However, I was distraught to find when I got home that from my most recent visit that the lobster I bought had only one claw! Buyer beware, apparently, but I wish the counter guy would have pointed it out to me. At $ 8.99/lb. this wasn’t such a bargain.

Love the mix here, I can cook south asian, middle eastern, indian and mexican food. All the hard to find thai stuff is here, lime leaves, curry leaves, indian eggplants. If you having trouble soucing ingredients from newer cookbooks this is a very good place to start. I was there this morning trying to find ingredients for Ottolenghi’s cookbooks. Don’t shop here if you want standard american fare that you find at safeway. The prices are a little lower than Hmart too. Park on the far side of the lot if you don’t want to deal with the congestion.

Get your lobsters here. and fruits and vegetables. other then that this place is okay need a little renovation. and also the cleanliness isnt all there. but they sually do have cheap lobsters. thats my main reasons for shopping there.

While running errands in the area, I made a stop in this Grand Mart location to pick up some things. Since Grand Mart has been under new management, I have noticed some great improvements at their sister location in Seven corners, which I frequent more often. In comparison, this location is slightly smaller and produce not as fresh (wilted scallions and herbs, apples had bruises). Still the same great low prices for produce but you have to pick through some and be a bit choosey or perhaps visit when the store receives their shipments. I noticed their fish section smelled less fishy which is a good sign. Their meat section, on the other hand, oozed a rather «sour» smell around their chicken which can’t be good or appetizing to say the least.

Produce is super affordable and the quality is comparable to other big box grocery stores. Stay away from the dairy section; I picked up a milk and could smell that it was rancid (and it wasn’t even open). The fish aisle (pretty much the entire back of the store) smells horrendous. You can definitely get some inexpensive things here that you can’t from other stores (for example, Sriracha sauce can be bought as cheaply as $ 3 for a large bottle).
BEWARE: Parking is really, really difficult. There are always near-​collisions. Keep your eyes peeled for pedestrians and stray carts!

I do really like this Grand Mart. I will agree, the seafood smell is strong but that isn’t anything out of the ordinary for grocery stores that have fish in tanks and live crabs in open coolers.
This place is always busy on the weekends which gets annoying but its cheap and they have a large variety of all kinds of food. I get my produce here for MUCH cheaper. I recently just bought a large fresh horse radish root to make bloody marys. Its been in my fridge for a month and is still good.
The employees are friendly and were helpful when I couldn’t find something.
Go here for produce and sauces!

I was in the neighborhood, and decided to give this place another chance. It’s okay for bottled condiments and vegetables (I arrived on a day when the produce looked and smelled particularly fresh), but don’t trust the the sell-​by dates on the meat and poultry!!! The large chicken leg quarters I picked up had a sell-​by date of 4⁄3. I’d planned to marinate them in advance for an Easter dinner. When I opened them up today, they had a smell and were sticky to the touch.
$ 3.43 + tax (they were on sale) went straight into the garbage. I’ve learned my lesson – if it looks too good to be true…

So disappointing! I could not find lime leaves or tamarind paste at all!
The store is hard to maneuver with the narrow aisle space so I usually park my cart somewhere and dodge /​juke shoppers like linebackers in my high school football days!
On Sunday (7⁄1), the credit card machines at the cashiers check out were having issues so everyone had to bring their receipt to customer service to pay.
Nevertheless the convenient location off of 395 and little river turnpike does provide easy access. So I’ll continue to shop here on an as needed basis excluding lime leaves and tamarind paste as course.

I have been coming here for many years and since my last review, I’ve seen a decline in quality. They don’t carry as much Asian items as I would like, definitely mostly Korean and Latino items. The produce here is not good. Yes, it’s cheap but most of the stuff goes bad quickly. I would only buy the veggies that you intend to cook from here, but not any veggies you intend to eat fresh or in raw form. This place isn’t very clean, I’ve witnessed the produce with numerous things on them. So wash well!
Lately, I’ve been sticking to grocery shopping in Rockville — I find more and better in these parts, not so much in Alexandria anymore.
Service is not good — the staff and employees here are not helpful.

I thought these sort of stores only existed in New York City. Although it looks like it’s Korean-​owned and they do have more Korean products than any other ethnic group, they market themselves as an international grocery store, and for the most part, it’s accurate. They have a significant selection of Hispanic food products — much better than any other mainstream «American» grocery store. They also have a decent selection of Middle Eastern, Chinese, and Vietnamese products. And they don’t just cater to «colored» folks — they even have a couple of shelves of British products so white folks from the old country are welcome too!
To be honest, I would personally rather have an H-​Mart in Alexandria, so I don’t have to trek all the way to Annandale or Fairfax to get my Korean food but Grand Mart will do. For all those who complain about it being dirty or smelly — sure, it won’t meet upscale suburban standards of sterility and orderliness but for anyone who’s lived in a real city (Chicago, New York, etc) and gone to ethnic grocery stores there, Grand Mart is about on par with the cleanliness and smelliness of those stores. Just to go Whole Foods Market and shop in the Asian aisle if the smelliness bothers you.
