As one of the first 100 CrossFit affiliates in the world (there are over 3,000 currently) Outlaw CrossFit has always sought to combine the most effective training principles to create a system for developing optimum fitness and athleticism.

The CrossFit program extols the notion of constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity — exercise in the way the body was designed to move, as efficiently, effectively and quickly as possible to achieve the goal of broad, general and inclusive fitness.

Business Owner

Rudy Nielsen, the owner and head coach of Outlaw CF, provides our hybrid system of programming. His goal is to combine the two systems with sprint interval work and plenty of Olympic lifting, while plugging in specific elements that are targeted to eliminating weaknesses in 3 – 6 week waves. He has an extensive strength and conditioning background, in addition to a USAW Level 2 and various CrossFit certifications: Level 2, Olympic Lifting, Powerlifting (which is held by Louie Simmons at Westside Barbell) and Gymnastics.

This system has allowed Outlaw to become one of the most successful CrossFit affiliates in the country. We have produced:

–The 2011 CrossFit Games Mid-​Atlantic Regional Women’s Champion, Becky Conzelman (video WMV/​MOV)

–7 athletes who qualified for the 2010 Central East Regional

THis is totally about their ecommerce business. I ordered a shirt for my son in June. it is Sept and my Visa has been charged $ 38.00 but no sign of the shirt. I have gone to Visa to dispute because these folks NEVER answer their phone or email or even texts. go figure.I would suggest getting out of the merchandising business. it does not look good on you!

If you want to go to a Crossfit box where they put the wod on the board and let you do your own thing, this is not the box for you. If you want coaches that pay attention to your technique, point out issues and help you to correct them, then this is where you want to go.
I have been doing Crossfit for 18 months. I travel a lot and have been to many different boxes around the country in that time. Outlaw Crossfit stands out from the others. I was in town for one day and was able to drop in for one wod. Since I’m not a member, Nicole could have easily let me do the work out and go on my way. During our warm up she pointed out a problem with my lifting technique and spent a lot of time helping me to correct it. When she was away coaching others, two additional coaches who were there to work out, came over and gave me tips.
If you want a good workout and coaches that are going to push you to improve, this is the place you want to go.

I will say go to the 10 am if you aren’t a CF cool-​aid drinker. The other times can be a bit intimidating and you don’t get the one on one attention that you get at the 10am classes. But still a fun place and where I feel in love with Olympic lifting. I miss it for sure.

For years I wanted to give CF a shot. Even as an athlete, I was intimidated by the idea. I finally sucked it up and scheduled an intro class. Dragged a girlfriend with me, early on a Saturday morning. It’s a wonder we even made it through the front door.
I was 100% there to sign up. Not a great experience. The intro wod was jam packed, wall-​to-​wall, with people trying to snatch PVC pipes. No individual instruction or real regard for brand new beginners. In an attempt to help out the lone coach who was trying to herd cats by no real fault of his own, a female member stepped in to help us out. To be fair, she was not a coach, but she was clearly annoyed with our beginner abilities and we felt like we were wasting her time. Learning olympic lifts is hard enough, but that situation made it 10x more frustrating and embarrassing. Didn’t facilitate a comfortable learning environment. I left having had a good workout, mostly from the run and burpees, but I was pretty frustrated and annoyed.
Glad I gave CF another shot, a year later — at a better, cleaner, smaller affiliate with plenty of expertise, space, and one-​on-​one instruction. This sport really is everything they say it is — but definitely find the right box.

Finally got to go here after following the programming of this gym for almost a year. Great staff! Very knowledgeable. Highly recommend for anyone that wants to live a longer, healthier and more productive life.

First, let me say this review has to do with the gym side of the business and EVERYTHING to do with the e-​commerce side of this particular business. I have not worked out here and probably never will considering how poorly they handle customer service. I purchased 2 shirts for $ 60 from them on June 4 and guess what? I still don’t have them. I emailed them 3 weeks following the purchase NO response. I saw on Facebook that the the athlete who the shirt was supporting was apparently helping to box the shirts herself. I did some Google research and found a number, left a message with no reply. Only received a response AFTER I texted the number hoping it was a cell phone. Got a reply that there was something wrong with the t-​shirt order and that they were shipping the next batch out that week. This was probably week 4 or 5 after I initially purchased the shirts. Well long story short I texted one last time only to hear back that the rest of the orders were sent on Monday July 17th. Nothing has been received and I have now been forced to call my bank to dispute the charge. It is really a shame when people can not get their customer service game together. A quick email letting people know that there was a problem with the shipment or shirts is common courtesy. Not responding to emails, finding out unclear status updates from the athlete’s facebook page and having to hunt down a contact number is bad business all around. I understand small business owners are busy but the customers are the one’s that support you and it sucks when you want to support a business or an athlete but the company/​box that she is associated with does not handle their business. It’s not a good look and it’s bad business.

Oh HELL no!
Unless you’re a 250 lbs power lifter hoping to compete in the CF Games, stay FAR away. The owner/​coach has a reputation for being dismissive, abusive, and less than knowledgable.
Walk down the street to Trident Crossfit, you’ll thank me later.

Outlaw Crossfit is a throwback to the gyms you see in an old boxing movie. You walk in and see a bunch of people who are serious about their quest for making themselves better. The environment is bare bones, but it has what you need to develop strength and conditioning — great coaches! They’re serious there, and you should be too when you walk in the door. I’ve dropped in a couple times and have gotten great training and a great workout. Don’t expect to be coddled, and know your stuff before you walk in (if you don’t know the difference between a low bar and a high bar back squat — stop. Google it. Figure it out. Proceed). Oh yea, you should also know how much weight you can lift — don’t ask the coaches how much weight you should put on the bar. It’s a strength and conditioning gym. If you’re walking in there that’s what you should expect. Lastly, read their website, and drop them a note before you drop in.

If you’re looking for a crossfit gym that is encouraging, welcoming, and to grow as an athlete, this is NOT the place for you. The lack of professionalism and high pretention is horrifying. I strongly do not encourage CFers to try this place out.

I came to Outlaw Crossfit roughly 4 months ago (sometime in mid-​March) at the advice of a friend and colleague who had previously been training here since November of 2010. As soon as I met the coaching staff, and the owner in particular, I knew this was the right gym for me. The no B.S. attitude towards workouts, and the drive to ensure EVERYONE has the same opportunity to better themselves in a very physically enriched environment kept me wanting more, so I indulged and pushed forth with the assistance of all the coaching staff, and members alike.
In the short amount of time that I have been working out here, I have transitioned from a fat, lazy, unmotivated slob, to a dedicated, confident, and eager member of this gym and what it stands for. I lost 60 pounds of fat, and gained incredible numbers on all of my lifts, abilities, cardio, desire, and self-​confidence to continue advancing my fit lifestyle. Crossfit at Outlaw has basically become my addiction, and I will continue to feed it with good supply from this gym and its staff. There is nothing quite like coming into a workout at Outlaw knowing that you are going to push yourself, and progress further than when you first walked in.
Simply put, Outlaw has it all. You will receive what you put into the work at this gym. There is no fluff and no sparkle. It is a raw, real, and reputable training régime that will pay off with the amount of work you put in. There is always encouragement from and for other members, and everyone shares the same considerations and desires to create a good, wholesome, lasting relationship with people who are achieving the same goals. You will NOT be disappointed when you come in for a workout.

I’ve seen this place («Outlaw CrossFit or «CrossFit Alexandria») move from just off route 1 S., to the Kingstowne area, to route 1 N. in old town, all in a span of less than 5 years.
Anyway, I went in once to discuss rates, because their website does not list them… talk about expensive! Yes, I know, you’re paying for coaching…(they’ll say «athlete» and «programming» but it is still just exercise and working out)…still expensive.
I’ve also seen some of their advertising, poking fun at other exercise methods. Why not just market yourself on your own merits instead of a «negative campaign»?
I think I’d recommend it for people who a) have the $$$ or b) are already hard-​core CrossFitters.

That’s simple: I’m reviewing what I experienced with your business which can be done without doing the exercises at your business. The exercise might be fantastic. Why don’t you just post your costs? It might be more transparent and useful for potential customers.
