Established in 2002, The Healing Tree is dedicated to providing the best in Therapeutic Bodywork, Skincare Services and Acupuncture in a professional healing environment, a place people come to rely on for healing, wellness and transformation. We realize that no two clients are the same and neither is a Healing Tree massage. Our office manager carefully matches each client with the right therapist. Each of our experienced therapists is certified and will spend the time to discuss your health concerns before your session. Because of this attention to each client and professionalism in the therapy room, we have built a solid reputation as one of the best places to visit for a massage and The Healing Tree was awarded Best in Massage for The Patch Readers Choice Award 2012! Business Owner

Maryellen eased into her massage career in the mid 90’s. Living in southern California and a certified Personal trainer at the time, she became exposed to Massage and bodywork. She began getting massage on a regular basis, and shortly after, decided that massage was a perfect career for her. She moved back east and attended AKS school of massage in Herndon, VA. In addition to Therapeutic and Deep Tissue massages, she specializes in Myofasical Release, Pre-​Natal Massage, Reflexology, and Crainosacral Therapy. She no longer practices personal training but pulls on her years of work in that field to help clients who are dealing with pain and injuries reach their wellness goals. She loves working with mom’s to be and also helping those dealing with life challenges such as cancer and other illnesses. She lives in Del Ray and spends her free time reading, in the garden and with her children and family.

At the last minute I called to see if they had any openings and they were able to fit me in. Josephine was fantastic! She really worked on my problem area (very sore/​tight neck down through my scapula) and focused on some really tight areas that come from lots of cycling. One of the most beneficial massages I have had – I plan to go back!

Long story short– I walked by during a festival and was ignored. When I inquired about getting a message I was quickly met with, «no, it’s been a long day».
I walked back by the tent and noticed the three women in the tent happily engaged with a woman who I saw just walk up.
I’ll take their rudeness as typical of this area– but I can’t help but to think if I looked differently that I would have at least been spoken to.
Funny thing is, I’m in the market for a good reiki message.

Suzanne is absolutely the best! Very knowledgeable and thorough. The only downside is, she’s so good, she’s book up weeks or months in advance! I’d go to her monthly if I could afford it but she’d probably get annoyed at my consistently ignoring her advice to correct some of the bad habits I have.

Went to The Healing Tree last nigjht for the very first time and Im sooo glad I did. Being new to the area, I had no real expectations about the place and left feeling wonderful. First, the place has such great energy! This is the kinfd of place you want to go to for any kind of therapy. Marianne was my massage therapist and she took the time to know me, ask questions and provide a massage catered to my needs. The pressure was jut right and the overall experience was marvelous. I will be returning!

I received a 60 minute massage here as a gift from some coworkers after a stressful couple of months in my life. There was an initial mixup with the payment for the massage when I called to make my appointment, but it was all sorted out in the couple of days before my massage.
Having never been to The Healing Tree before, I simply scheduled a massage with whoever was available, which turned out to be Marianne. I would go back for another massage with her in a heartbeat! She was friendly and soft-​spoken in a way that was almost instantly calming. She took a few minutes pre-​massage to sit with me and go over my health info and my expectations for the massage– mostly that I just really needed to relax!
The massage itself was very effective and Marianne was exceedingly professional; she made just enough conversation, but was not overly talkative, so the whole experience was comfortable, friendly and relaxing. I tend to forget to breathe during massages, mostly because I have a lot of muscle tension, which can hurt when it’s being worked out. Marianne noticed this, and took a moment to ask me to focus on my next ten breaths. It really worked, and it reminded me to keep breathing throughout the massage. All in all, I had a great experience at The Healing Tree and look forward to going back again.

I go see Suzanne several times a year for a 90 minute massage. I’ve had back surgery, hip surgery and a broken femur so she’s helping me work out muscle weakness, tension from compensating and general stress. The office is fantastic, booking is easy, even at the last minute, and I’ve always left feeling better than when I went in. Suzanne is friendly, knowledgeable, and goes above and beyond to try to get me healed and continue progress. I can’t recommend her highly enough.

It has been a long time since I’ve had a massage and my whole right side felt out of alignment so I booked a massage with Yang. We talked about what was bothering me and then he used a combination of energy healing, massage and pressure points to focus mainly on my back and neck plus a few other areas where he noted weaknesses. Aside from a great massage, I was impressed that he was able to tell right away before beginning where a few of my weak spots were through his energy work — he was spot on even though I hadn’t mentioned them. I still feel relaxed and refreshed and much more in alignment and it’s been a few days since I saw him. I will definitely be returning to Yang.

Just wanted to update this review.
After reading my review, the owner reached out to me and asked me to give them another chance, which I did.
I still wasn’t blown away by the massage, but I did have a better experience and I have to say that I really appreciated her good customer service and attempt to make things right.
I may just be picky where massage is concerned, so I think this place is still worth a try if you haven’t been there.
I hate to be the party pooper here, but I wasn’t impressed. I had Joann. When I arrived the person downstairs told me that her previous client had been 30 minutes late so she was behind. I understand that they wanted to be accommodating but 30 minutes late? So I waited 15 – 20 minutes for my massage to start. Meanwhile Joann was apologetic but stressed and it didn’t start things off very well.
The massage was pretty good. I’ve had better but I’ve had worse too. I really don’t have any complaints about it, other than I did tell her that one area was really something I wanted to focus on and she didn’t spend much time on it. I mentioned it for a reason. I think she was on autopilot honestly.
My other complaint is pricing related. The times start with 30 minutes and then 45, 60, 75 and 90 minutes. The price jumps $ 15 for each increase in time EXCEPT for the 60 – 75 which jumps $ 30. Guess which one I had booked? :(so I felt a little ripped off because of that. I knew the price going in — I just didn’t know the others were smarter options. I would’ve booked 60 minutes for $ 100 if I had known. Instead I paid $ 130 for 75 minutes which seems silly to me. $ 30 more for 15 minutes?
I won’t be returning. If anyone knows of a great therapist with pricing that makes sense (not looking for cheap — just sensible) please hit me up. I’m still looking. Alex and Arlington.

I went to the Mount Vernon location and had a great experience with Andrea. I had her therapeatic swedish massage. She is absolutely a master at what she does. The downside of the place is that the walls are very thin and you can hear everything outside of the room (i.e. talking, walking, microwave beeping). Guests are notified to be aware of their noise levels, so it’s not too big of a deal.

I woke up last week and couldn’t stand all the way up. A back condition that I have had gotten worse. After two days of being at home in bed, I knew I needed to do something more. I checked out The Healing Tree on the recommendation of a co-​worker.
I was able to get a same-​day appointment for a deep tissue massage with Cheyenne. I was a little leary at first of having a male massage therapist, but I am so glad I got over that! He was super professional, asked me lots of questions about my condition and my comfort level, told me everything he was going to do and asked for my okay before doing it, etc. By the time I left later, I was able stand and walk without too much pain! I still feel amazing. I’ll definitely be back!

I have been receiving massages from Kate Bethel at The Healing Tree for over 2 years now and these are as good as it gets! This is hands down the best massage business in town! Very nice ambiance, friendly employees and talented therapists!

Recieved a fantastic massage (my first ever) at the Healing Tree in the Del Ray ‘hood of Alexandria.
I chose the Healing Tree over Vital (both in Del Ray) simply because of the easy online appointment scheduling tool for the HT.
Let me just say the place smelled fantastic. The facility wasn’t as glitzy as Elizabeth Arden, but the quality of the service was excellent.
I won’t lie. When I met my massage therapist, Cheyenne, my first thought was «Oh crap it’s a dude!» But I decided to put that weirdness aside and focus on getting the most out of my massage. He was very thorough in explaining how it would work, and what his approach was. It was great, he was very professional, and he tackled the pain that was plaguing my neck. And did I mention how good the place smelled? I felt cleansed just breathing the air in there. Suffice to say — I’ll definitely return again.

Went there for a massage since my last one in 2002 and Kate Bethel got every knot, kink and snap in my aching back and neck. And came in on a snow day to help me. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because she had to wait for her boss to come by with the key to let us in so we spent a solid 15 minutes outside in the cold before the appointment. :(

The service is is great. I booked at the very last minute, and, even though I knew I was keeping Maryellen from her dinner plans, not for even one second did my appointment feel rushed.
I was brand new to massage (my first ever). Maryellen did a fantastic job getting to know me and taking the time to understand what would provide the most relief. The massage was excellent and right on target.
She called a few days after the massage to see how it felt after (i.e. was I sore, bruised, felt just fine, etc.). I will be going back.
About the location: their space is small, so don’t expect large and lavish. Expect cozy with great service.

Truly can’t say enough wonderful about this place. It’s been my healing sanctuary since it opened years ago, and I simply don’t know what Id’ do without it. If truly provides healing — body and soul — from its amazingly great owner and her way of being in the world to the incredibly kind, professional, flexible, and simply great staff. There is such a variety of therapists (male and female), types of massage and treatments — to include acupuncutre — and I’ve never had a bad experience from any/​all the above. YOU SIMPLY CAN“T GO WRONG WITH THE HEALING TREE!
