Traylor Design & Construction

We signed a contract with Traylor Design and Construction to renovate our kitchen. When they came to start the work, we asked for an additional estimate on painting the home interior and redoing our woodwork. Instead of starting with the agreed upon scope in kitchen as they said they would in writing, they ripped out all of the old woodwork before providing an estimate or having an agreement about scope of work. (We were not there to supervise until COB.) The estimate ended up being far beyond what we’d budgeted, but because they’d removed old woodwork without permission, we were forced to go forward with the work. We had received lower estimates for painting, but they said that their estimate included necessary wall repairs and that it would be quality work. They said if we took a day to check on other estimates, they were going to move on to another job and would not be available to complete this one. We obviously couldn’t take that risk because we were trying to meet a target for moving into our home. Unfortunately, it turned out that it was far from quality work. The repairs were done too quickly and haphazardly and many spots were missed. The compound, caulking and primer were not allowed to dry properly, which they admitted, causing dozens of cracks in the paint in the woodwork and walls. The walls were not sanded well prior to paint application. There was also dripped paint down the walls throughout the house and wall paint on woodwork and vice versa. They tried to say that it wasn’t dripped paint but rather due to flaws in our concrete walls, but we knew this was false because there was also dripped paint on the brand new woodwork they’d installed. They came back and fixed some of it, but the second they left, we found additional long cracks. When I emailed and asked for recommendations on how we should fix these cracks now and over time ourselves, even though they should be returning to repair given the 1-​year warranty on work, I received no response. From what I’ve read, we will now be dealing with cracking paint until we redo the $ 14,000 plus paint/​woodwork job completely. The work should have lasted at least 5 to 10 years, and it didn’t even last a few months. We are thoroughly disappointed in the work. They complained that they’d spent too much time and money on the job when they completed some of the repairs, but if they would have done the job correctly in the first place, that would not have been the case. They did a pretty good job in the kitchen but cut corners there as well. They were responsive when we asked for things to be fixed, but often, the repairs were insufficient, and quite frankly, we didn’t feel like we should have had to constantly ask. We also realized they left our yard, which they used to place old cabinets, wood, etc. a complete mess with broken pieces of tile, pieces of old carpet, construction tape and other trash, even though cleanup was in our contract. If you are able to supervise Traylor Design and Construction’s work each and every day and make sure they’re not cutting corners, they might be worthwhile to use. However, if we saved money by using them, which I’m not sure we did, it would be a wash due to the ongoing problems we’re likely to have due to shoddy work. Perhaps they’re better suited for smaller jobs. This may have just been too big a job for them where they were cutting corners because they underestimated the work. The workers were personable and trustworthy, which is a pro. They also tried to work with us on budget and issues we raised and threw in a few «extras,» but the end product was still subpar at best. I thought long and hard about posting this review since they did try to meet our needs, but given how heavily I relied upon reviews when selecting a contractor as a new homeowner, I thought it was important to share our experience.

Andre and his team are the best. They built a beautiful deck for us this past summer and we recently had them redo our bathroom, install a storm door, and add kitchen backsplash, under cabinet lights, and LED ceiling lights in the kitchen. We are consistently thrilled with the work Andre’s team produces. Andre is great at providing guidance and recommendations when it comes to design and really takes the time to listen to what you want the end result to look like and knows how to get you there.
They’ve made each experience extremely easy and they really go above and beyond when it comes to making sure the customer is happy. We really can’t say enough good things about Andre & his team.

Andre and his team finished roughly 1600sqft of my basment. This included a bathroom with a custom shower, replacement of patio door, a wetbar and a media/​exercise room. Everything was done to code and inspected without any issues. The project was much more involved than originally planned, but his crew worked hard and got the majority of the basement framed and finished within a month, with a few detailed items taken care of soon after. That included work stoppage for inspections. Overall, i’m impressed and appreciative of the work done.

Andre and his team are the best. I could not be happier with the work he’s done at my house. They were on time, had great attitudes, and were very reasonably priced.
Why I needed Andre’s help:
I own one large cat and one small condo. I didn’t want my guests to smell cat litter upon entering the house. Nor did I want them to see remnants of the litter on the floor anywhere.
It’s been hard enough trying to fit all of my personal belongings in my small place… adding a cat box, cat food dishes, and extra litter and food without being in the way felt impossible. My condo is nice, but I just did not have extra room in my bathroom, or really anywhere else, to fit a kitty litter box.
The Solution:
Andre’s team built a window seat with storage for all of my crazy cat lady items. The solution was a compartmentalized window seat which includes one section for the litter, one section for cat food, and one section for cat-​item storage. The litter section contains a small fan that vents to the outside through the window above the seat so the cat can go to the bathroom while I have company at the condo and there is NO SMELL. It also has ample space for a litter trapper-​mat so now no remnants from my cats paws are tracked through the house.
End Result:
The overall product is beautiful and my way of life is way better. I am a very happy customer and will be calling on Andre for more house stuff in the future (matter of fact he is coming over Tuesday to add a back-​splash in my kitchen).

Andre completed a kitchen remodel for me a few months ago and I could not be happier. I had an old outdated kitchen that was terrible to come home to. He put up brand new white cabinets, added an island, recessed lighting, granite, removed a wall, added an island, glass tile backsplash, new paint, stainless steel sink, and removed a soffit. The difference is like night and day. The work was done very professionally and looks absolutely beautiful. I have had contractor nightmares in the past and I will only be calling Andre in the future.

This is the second project that I have hired Traylor Design to complete. Both projects were done timely, reasonably priced, and the overall quality exceeded my expectations. I am already planning my next home project, and I know I will utilize Traylor Design again.

Andre was really responsive to our request for a quote, was very thorough and organized in his estimate and was able to get the flooring job done quickly. A trustworthy person who seems to care about the quality of his work and his customers’ satisfaction with the same.

Andre and his team did an outstanding job on my exterior wood replacement project on my home. They replaced some dry rotted wood with PVC boarding, painted and cleaned the area before they wrapped up the project. Great job, will hire again for my next project!

Our house was a mess, we had numerous pipe burst and who ever built our house could not measure. Andre and his crew moved pipes, electrical outlets, and painted our house beautifully. They completed the job even better then I would have expected and did not leave any debris. I truly appreciate Andre’s professionalism and the high quality of his work. Thank you. We had two pipes burst due to the «big freeze» at the beginning of the year. Andre and his guys did an amazing job of transforming the mess to make it better than it had ever been. My wife and I couldn’t be happier. We are already making plans for him to come and improve a few other things.
