Just had two crowns done by Dr. Mai. I called two days prior for an appointment and her staff at the Comay Terrace office got me in the next day. I’m exceptionally pleased with the treatment and expertise that Dr. Mai and her staff provide and with my dental insurance have had no issues with my more than reasonable out of pocket costs. Highly recommend.

Bad Denture work, stay away! Been disputing since April. Still no resolution. Over price, poor work. Stay away!

Zero stars if I could. Do yourself a favor — steer FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.
I went to them to ask for an estimate for one molar tooth pain I was having. The dental technician took three or four x-​rays or pictures of that area of my mouth, and talked for a little bit and smiled and was generally cheerful. Then when Dr. Mai finally showed up for a total of about 3 minutes, her bedside manner is horrible and she looked like she was in an extremely agitated mood to even have to see a patient. Never mind that. As for The diagnosis, she recommended two crowns on the tooth that was causing pain in the tooth next to it and it was going to cost over $ 3000. I left a telling them that I would have to think about it because I have had crown work done before, and route canals, and I have never had to pay that much for two crowns. Not even close. And I have insurance.
When I left that afternoon, at the dental office called me twice to ask if I was going to schedule the crown appointment. Actually, the first time they called they try to pressure me into scheduling the crown appointment and I reiterated to them that I needed to think about it. Then about an hour later they called again and said maybe if you don’t schedule crown appointment, can we reschedule an examination or a tooth cleaning. I have not been pressured more from car salesman so I was completely annoyed that they were calling me on a workday to pressure me into making the appointment.
I went to another dentist in the district that my friend recommended, and long story short, I only need one crown and it cost a mere fraction and all is good in terms of my dental care.
Then I receive a bill from Dr. Mai for close to $ 400, and one of the charges is for «complete set of x-​rays» which is paramount to medical fraud because there was no complete set of x-​rays done, only a partial set for one tooth. Know the difference because I’ve been to the dentist my whole life and I understand that usually in accurately truck up they do a complete set of x-​rays to examine all your teeth. That was not the case. I called my insurance company and they explain to me what I need to tell to this dentist. I plan on going to them tomorrow and I will update this based on what they say.
I am an attorney and this generally is very close to insurance fraud, what this practice might be doing. Especially if in fact they are trying to bill me for services they never rendered and also try to build my insurance company for, again, services never rendered. I have no reason to believe that they performed a complete set of x-​rays on my teeth, especially when they only did x-​rays of the tooth that was in pain. They did not take any x-​rays of the right side of my mouth, so how can that be considered complete? A reasonable person would believe that this is a false charge. Also Bill before a comprehensive exam, which again I believe is false. They only look at that tooth and that side of the mouth, because that is what I explain to them was the nature of my visit. He of course did not do a cleaning or anything else because again, that was not the nature of my visit.
The Excel spreadsheet they had that show the scheduling, which they put up on the screen during my visit, even showed that patient was only there for a back molar.
There are many other qualified dentist and better dentist in this area, please steer clear of this place. This is a nightmare I did not need

I was a long time patient of Dr Mai. I have seen her go down from great to bad and just unprofessional/​dangerous for money. She has stretched her self too thin and allows non certified folks in her office do the work and damaging patients. She is very aware of this and refuses to respond or talk to you when complications arise. We are all humans and mistake happens. But to know what you did wrong and performing procedures you are not qualified for is taking it to another level. Avoid this place at all costs. Dr Mai’s treatment was ok. First time i had her clean my teeth, it was fine. Then I had filling done by her. It hurts for months after filling was done. I had to go back a couple times to have her adjust my filling. She claims everyone’s sensitivity level is different.
This month I had a middle eastern hygenist guy to clean my teeth. It hurt for a day after cleaning was done. I also made appointment for having filling done on other teeth when I was there. However, I had to cancel it because of a family emergency. They said they are going to charge me $ 50 because I didn’t cancel before 48 hours of my appointment time. I wasn’t happy about those incidents. One time when I went back to have her adjust my filling, their computer didn’t show my appointment so I had to reschedule right in their office. Do I get to charge $ 50 from therm? Heck no. Why should I be charged for cancelling appointment while they don’t pay me for cancelling my appointment due to their own fault?
Because of those things, I am not going back again. I don’t recommend anyone going there.

Dr. Mai’s office is quite unprofessional. Their behavior is certainly ignorant and borders on unethical. First my girlfriend had her wisdom teeth removed and the front desk implied our insurance would cover part of it. The insurance didn’t cover anything. A simple enough mistake, but that’s not the end of the story. We paid the $ 1,300 (ouch) and they kept no record of it. I had to go into the office with a copy of my credit card statement to prove I had already paid the $ 1,300. I should have quit there, but our son still had an appointment. My girlfriend got back from the office and told me Dr. Mai had told her insurance didn’t cover his checkup. I found that strange since I know pediatric dentistry is covered by the insurance plan. So I checked up with them and sure enough it is covered. Dr. Mai’s front desk claimed they called insurance to check so either they are lying or not handling those situations well. So in summary, I was told insurance would cover something it didn’t cover, I was then double-​billed, and then I was told insurance wouldn’t cover something that it did cover. Oh, I forgot the best part. They scheduled our son’s appointment during Dr. Mai’s lunch and our four-​year-​old had to sit in the chair for over 30 minutes waiting for her to get back. Then when Dr. Mai did get back, she made a condescending remark to my girlfriend. My highest warning possible to stay away from this office (like the other reviewers I’ll note).

Dropped in to have a teeth cleaning done. Was informed my blue shield/​blue cross plan was poor and would only cover 5% of the cost of the cleaning. No problem I’m employed and can pay for a cleaning. How much could it possibly cost for a basic teeth cleaning? WHAT? $ 396? GTFO. Thank you for wasting MY time.

Please stay away from this dental practice. Not only does she manage to find a way to «nickel and dime» her patients, the quality of her work is poor! I had to go to another dentist to have all the fillings that she did, redone. Furthermore, the new dentist couldn’t believe how poor my X-​rays looked from Dr. Mai’s office (I had my files forwarded). Their machine must not be very good. My spouse is in the military and we move a lot. I have had very good luck with finding and sticking with good dentists everywhere we move (four states previous to this one). I am not a complainer. This is the first review that I have written on Unilocal; and felt I had a duty to warn potential patients.

I have been going to Dr. Mai for years. She is kind and professional. The office has early and late appointments, and I have appreciate the flexibility and ease of scheduling.
In response to the cons on some reviews, I have never had any surprises about billing. I have found her and the rest of the staff to be up front. She also presented me with options and disclosed what my insurance most likely would and would not pay, and I have never felt pressured. (I have had anywhere from regular cleanings to an implant).
After my dental surgery, I was concerned with a stitch (which turned out to be nothing), and she called me on a Saturday. I would highly recommend her.

Pros: Clean modern office. Seems to have all the best technologies. Dr Mai is friendly and personable.
Cons: I was diagnosed with cavities that two other dentists could not find. Charges are about 3x more than what I have paid in other offices. I was presented with the bill while my mouth was full of treatments.
Overall I think she was too aggressive with high cost treatments.

Get ready for a rip off. After paying $ 329 to repair an old cleaning, I got another bill for $ 251! These are the bills you should expect to pay if you have dental coverage. I have MetLife and was shocked at how many optional and unnecessary procedures Dr. Mai decided to do. We are not ATM machines, Dr. Mai. Feel free to figure out how the dental plans you work under operate before abusing them!
