Fosselman’s Ice Cream

You’re hoping that I will say some stellar things about this ice cream parlor. Sure, there are great things to share about, and also some things that you’ll find me, and possibly yourself, second-​guessing about the Fantasy of this place.
Yes, the ice cream flavors give you that satisfaction to tame the cravings that you have, to finding a place that serves the right texture of creaminess, that gets you to re-​live all those times you had bad ice cream experiences. really? Come on now, this is an ice cream shop that serves your favorite flavors, But it’s not Mr/​Mrs. Perfect.
I like several flavors: Cookies & cream, Taro, Salted Caramel, and. for those of you who really like chocolate, Welcome! You got yourselves different selections of chocolate, i.e. Dutch, Fudge, White, and I’m forgetting a few. But the point is that you’re going to find flavors that you like, and then some. Bleh, and Yikes! That’s an actual flavor?! Lol. Ha Ha. Yeah Ok, I found some flavors that didn’t go well with me. Well. ready for the bad, displeasing part of this review?
I need to share this with you. It’s a hot day in the mid– 80s temperature. People will get ice cream for that reason. Me. I didn’t come in for that. You know, sometimes you have a bad day and Nothing does it. except to come in for some ice cream! Workers, owner, whoever works there, why the sad, gloomy faces? I know I’m already depressed, but could you at least talk to me rather than ask me, «What do you want today?» It’s kinda funny, right?.. But oh my goodness. when you’ve had a tough day, and you ask me something like that, wouldn’t it be better than average customer service to address me in a nicer tone?
Folks, it’s not the first time I’ve come into Fosselman’s. I have been there multiple times now, yeah. probably over fifteen times over. Each time I come in, it’s that type of service. The parking is limited as you’ll see. I have doubts as to whether or not I’ll continue coming back. Yes, you can enjoy the ice cream there. But, their flavors are the only reason you’d see me return, and I won’t be returning any time soon either.

The vintage parlor design is pretty cool and they have so many flavors to choose from! Like taro, peach, mango, chocolate dipped strawberry, mint and chip, and so many more I can’t remember. They also have sundaes, milkshakes, and banana split.
After getting the medium sized ice cream order (which is Two scoops), I decided I wanted to try the banana split. It’s pretty cool since you get to choose the 3 ice cream flavors along with the 3 kinds of toppings you want and whether you want nuts and whipped cream on top. However, I did wish they were more generous with the toppings.
Their ice cream isn’t uniquely fantastic.
But overall, I give it ⁵⁄₅ stars for the ice cream variety and interior design of the place.

What a nostalgic shop! Plenty of seating inside, however the parking lot adjacent to the store can accommodate only about 6 cars. I had the small scoop of Nutella ice cream which was pretty good, nothing spectacular. Their sundaes and malts look super appetizing, but I wasn’t really in the mood to OD on sugar. CASH ONLY, but there is a Wells Fargo right next door in case you forget to bring cash with you. Definitely check this place out if you’re in the SGV!

This ice cream parlor is as classic as they come. Having been around since 1919 and still being so popular, that says volumes about this place. They have plenty of flavors to choose from, and all the ones I’ve tried are so good and not overly sweet. My favorite flavors are probably coconut pineapple, green tea, and coffee & cookies. That’s right — coffee… and cookies… TOGETHER. My two favorite things in one flavor! That leaves another scoop slot for my a second flavor :) The price for a pre-​packed half gallon is about $ 8, which may seem a little steep at first, but is totally worth it!
The only negatives I can think of for Fosselman’s is the tiny parking lot and that it’s cash only. I just park at the bank next door if its after-​hours (legal??) or on the street.
Also to note, they’re open until 1100pm during the summer time!

Came here Saturday afternoon in a blistering mid 90s hot day to cool down. Of course there’s a descent size line but it’s expected for their awesome yummy ice cream. Third time here and it has not disappointed until now. No no, the ice cream is still good, just that they ran out of 4 flavors and half of those flavors I really wanted to get. Unfortunately they don’t have any other tubs to refill it and I didn’t want to wait for them to make another batch so i had no choice but to settle.
Two scoops with a cone for $ 5, sweet deal. Don’t forget it’s CASH ONLY! The workers are phenomenal. Great place for ice cream and a cool down.

But, ok, I’ll just say it: I do not think Fosselman’s is good at all.

But for serious, guys. Has it gone down in quality? This is FAR from the best ice cream I’ve had, and I just don’t get the hype.
Went here this weekend, during a fortuitous 30-​second lull. We didn’t wait too long, but there were still plenty of people jamming up the line. Pair that with the rather pushy young staff, and that made it impossible to actually sample any flavors. Hurriedly, I ordered a scoop of «fresh peach,» thinking back to the seasonal peach ice cream I’d had as a kid, so sweet and luscious. What I got though had very little discernible peach flavor (even Dryer’s is better), and was so pink in color my friend thought I’d ordered strawberry.
So, I don’t get the appeal, really, other than the nostalgia factor, given Fosselman’s history. The décor, supposedly old-​timey, is just old. The ice cream is too sweet. The entire place feels like it needs a makeover, inside and out.

Fast service, plentiful flavors, cheap prices. This ice cream parlor is pretty lit. I came about an hour before close on a weekday, and it was packed. There was a private parking lot but there was not enough parking spots to accommodate for the volume of patrons.
Overall, 5 stars because of the service quality and speed. Oh and the ice cream was delicious.

Great family owned ice cream parlor that my parents have taken me to since I could remember! They freshly make ice cream every morning which you could see if you come in during their opening hours!!!

Summer is crazy but surely worth the wait

I wanted to try this place for the longest time because of how many reviews it had, and I finally made it out! This place has an old retro vibe to it, and at the doorway, they sell lots of goodies like silly birthday cards or lollipops. The store is also packed with tons of people, and is a bit louder than your usual ice cream store. The décor in the shop was full of history, like what their store sign used to look like, an old fashioned ice cream scooper, and their original very old recipe book.
I asked the man behind the counter what their most popular flavor was, and he said it was coffee cookie, which (in my opinion) just tasted like cookies and cream ice cream with coffee. But it wouldn’t be something that I would order every time.
The real thing that I came here for was to try their sesame, green tea, lychee, taro, and whatever other Asian flavor ice creams they had! I also got peach, because it said it was fresh.
Though I have only been here once, I don’t think I would really want to come back. The ice cream here is good, but it isn’t amazing. However, it is said that most people come here for the history behind this ice cream store. It is worth visiting at least once :)

We tried Fossilman’s tonight after talking about it for some time. All, I can say is mmmmm, classc ice cream parlor. Established in 1919 (like UCLA), this cute diner has stood through 1 World War, the entirety of the Cold War (fitting for an ice cream place) and a new frozen war against the trendy likes of Yogurtland, and Cold Stone. While these places are delicious in their own right, Fossilman’s provides fulfilment for the nostalgic cravings of a mid-​century sweet tooth.
The banana split was very well priced. 3 giant scoops from a huge selection of both classic and modern flavors. We tried coffee&cookies, nutella, and cookie dough and were very pleased with all of them. The nutella flavor was my favorite, although a little subdued if you are looking for a strong hazelnut flavor. It also came with a hefty dose of whipped cream, nuts, and 3 topping sauces. I recommend asking for the sauces on the side, so as to get the full flavor of the ice cream, without any saucy interference.
Not a lot of parking in the lot, but plenty available on the street. Cash Only!

hubby and his siblings grew up just a few blocks away from this famed alhambra establishment, so it behooves him to pay homage to this ice creamery at least once per visit home. his favourite flavours? anything with strawberry, cherry or raspberry… double scoop, of course! i like their black sesame, horchata, and banana walnut, more unique flavours that may not be found elsewhere. servers will give you as many samples as you like in case you can’t decide! they also have quarts that you can purchase to enjoy at home if you wish.
we typically try to go during off peak hours when we can get a seat, but on a warmer day, it’s usually pretty packed no matter the hour. good thing they have some seating outside, and worse case scenario, we take a leisurely stroll down main st while enjoying our frozen treats.
a must visit for any ice cream lover visiting the la area!

The reason for the stars is for their AMAZING SORBETS! This is such a relief since the little princess is allergic to all things milk. We are constantly disappointed that there is seldom any quality desserts for her at most places.

I don’t get it, I just don’t get it. I’ve tried five flavors from Fosselman’s they all taste like coffee creamer. I tried the sweet corn, almond brittle, butter pecan, taro, and a cookie flavor (I forget the name). They all honestly taste like half and half, with no distinctive difference in any of the flavors! How on earth can these flavors taste so heavily like cream? Even the cappuccino flavor that my boyfriend got tasted like it was muted by the thick milk flavor.
You can tell their product uses less ice/​water and significantly more heavy dairy, emphasizing the «cream» in «ice cream» but this is to the flavor’s detriment. I would not eat this ice cream again, it felt like I had eaten out of a tub of cool whip, just the taste of hydrogenated oil and milk. Sure the place has history, and as a retro and vintage geek I really wanted to like the place but the product was not good.
Also, to top it off, parking sucks, it is cash only, and they have no bathroom. Why would anyone go here if there is Salt & Straw in Studio City, Jeni’s in Los Feliz, Carmella’s or Cool Haus in Pasadena, which all offer distinct and complexly delicious flavors so close by? Beats me.
P. S. I’ve read reviews that say you can try a bunch of the flavors since they have a hefty list of options; this is false. They have a sign that tells you to limit your samples to three options.

Fosselmann’s is one of those places you just can’t ever go wrong with. With so many ice cream flavors to choose from, there’s bound to be something you’ll like. They have some unique ones but each one is of excellent quality. They also have sundaes, floats, and shakes.
Parking here is a real pain though :(

I first heard about this cute old fashion ice cream parlor from a guy I was dating a ways back. He said his father use to take his mother here on hot summer nights. Since then, I’ve been coming back for more and more.
I’ve been here approximately 20 times within the past 4 years. Doesn’t sound like much, but it’s enough times to figure out which flavors I love and which I can live without.
Favorites: A few of my favs that I have tried are: coffee & cookies, english toffee, taro, and lychee.
Venue: This ice cream parlor has an old fashion feel to it and it’s definitely a great place for dates. Although a bit small, the capacity for the seating area is about 20 or so. Luckily, there are two benches right outside for you couples.
Service: The lines here can sometimes get long; however, the staff here are very efficient when serving their customers.
Price: $ 2.95 for a single scoop on either a sugar or cake cone. I upgraded mines to a waffle cone for a total of $ 3.50.
Parking: Parking lot is a bit small. It can probably only fit 10 or fewer cars. When the lot is packed, you can always park on the street.

This is THE place for ice cream in the 626. Try all the samples you want. They’re really good about supplying you all that you want to try.
They have a super old-​schooled feel, and the prices are super reasonable.

would love to sit and eat, but the place was extremely packed and left a huge scratch on the bottom of the front of my car because of the awkward exit and the massive amount of people not looking as to where they are going.

The lychee icecream is the bomb dot com. Parking is a breeze. You can try flavors. Bring cash. Enough said.

My other stop. My older brother introduced me to this 18 yrs ago before I moved to Seattle and became a big fan instantly. This is our next stop after our big lunch at Sam Woo. Here, we catch up some more and have our old and new laughs. My bro always knows how to keep me smiling and this is his way of doing that. He buys me ice cream. Aw…
This place is family-​owned and is locally known. I believe this is by itself, no franchise. Anyway, they have plenty of flavors. Check it out or Unilocal. I love the pistachio flavor as well. So good… I better slow down after this number or else I’ll be in trouble here with my sugars. Two scoops in a cup is about $ 4 bucks. Not bad. Super clean and friendly.

Fosselman, you were originally my 1^st love for ice creams … but now I have finally moved on after my most recent visit during this weekend.
Price: 2.95 for one scoop (additional $ 0.55 for waffle cone), $ 4.45 for double (additional $ 0.55 for waffle cone), $ 5.25 for three scoops (additional $ 0.50 for waffle cone).
In addition to ice creams, Fosselman also sells old fashioned salt water taffy, a variety of other old fashioned candies, and greeting cards. Large selection of ice cream flavors, but mostly flavors are very traditional (no flavors like rose water or goat cheese at Fosselman). I sampled couple flavors (like black sesame and taro) and most flavors were good, but I can find better & fancier versions at other artisan ice cream places now.

Real Vanilla + Butter Pecan (waffle cone, double — $ 4.90): Both texture and flavors were a lot denser (chunkier too) and less smooth than few other top tier artisan ice cream places like Salt & Straw and Long Beach Creamery. Waffle cone was very average and nothing special about it. Nonetheless, Fosselman’s ice cream is still a lot better than your typical ice creams that you find in supermarkets.

I no longer think Fossleman is one of my personal top five ice cream shops in SoCal anymore, but overall it still offers good and affordable traditional ice creams in the SGV (San Gabriel Valley) area.

After living in the San Gabriel Valley for 30 years, I have never been on the inside of Fosselman’s until now. I have seen Huel Howser’s story on PBS, locally sold Fosselman’s at Howies Ranch Market, and witness testimony on how great this ice cream is. However, today I had a purpose; our co-​worker made a special request for their Pistachio ice cream for her birthday! Who would have known a nut would make all the difference in the world. Upon entering the store, I had a cozy family feel about the place, and saw all the delicious flavors they make that would put other ice crème stores to shame. I bought a quart with cash, which is the only legal tender they take at the generational family store.
Once brought to work, co-​workers wondered what it would taste like. One of my co-​workers just came back from Italy, and was fully aware of the quality nut crème. Once everyone had some, the verdict was out; a winner!
I would fully endorse this ice crème store winter or summer. In winter, the smoothness helps keep our winter coat in place, and in the summer, the coolness going down keeps us cool, as we brave the summer heat.

In all honesty the only reason why I picked chocolate dipped strawberry flavor was because I thought it would photograph well. I usually go for dark chocolate when eating anything remotely sweet.
What a pleasant surprise. The sweetness isn’t cloying and it tastes fresh. New. Definitely good. I loved it.
They have candies and brownies and shakes available for every kind of sweet tooth out there so come one, come all. You won’t be disappointed.

They have so many flavors! The ice cream here is very delicious and during March they have specialty flavors for St. Patrick’s Day.

My daughter’s ice cream plopped on the floor, and they replaced it free of charge. Great service. Great ice cream. Worth the long line. I just wish I lived closer so I could try every flavor!

This place would have a five star but parking sucks. I love this place. No. I ADORE this place. It’s an ice cream paradise. I mean come on. Taro ice cream? Lychee? They’ve got a very grand selection of flavors you won’t find at Thrifty’s (I love you too Thrifty’s). If you want to venture for some awesome ice cream treats, do give this place a shot. You won’t be sorry. Customer service is great 99.9% of the time but I don’t care. Just take my money.

Fossleman’s has been an SGV staple for ice cream for decades. Literally 91 years of serving ice cream to LA locals. I’ve been here a few times thru the years. Fossleman’s ice cream is good. The quality of the ice cream is in the tier of Baskin’s & Robins and Thrifty Ice Cream.
This ice cream shop is cozy with ample seating. They carry quite a selection of flavors along with ice cream cakes, frozen yogurt, sorbets, and old fashion candies.
I chose a scoop of dutch chocolate in cup. The next time around, I’d rather get a scoop in a cone since one of my sidekicks looked double the size of mine in a cone.
Service here is okay though I did think it was rude of staff to kick folks (not us) out for closing 2 minutes after they sold them at the register. Having some business courtesy would of warned the patrons of store closing soon.

There’s not much to say here. you go in, select your flavor, taste some if you like, and pay for it. There are some tables to eat inside but it’s very limited. Parking is also limited in their private lot but there is street parking.
And random comment but I think it smells funny in there. I can’t describe it but it’s funky… not bad funky. Is it just me?

Yes I still get excited to come here! It brings back memories of coming here as a kid and it’s like that feeling never left. This has got to be the best place for ice cream around the area. With the many original flavors and other unique flavors to choose from they always have people coming back for more.
Of course there is going to be a line at times but it moves quickly. The best thing is you can take a whole pint of whatever you like home for only about $ 8. You can also sample the ice cream to see which ones you like. The dilemma is not knowing which flavor to pick because they are all so delicious.
My personal favorites are the lychee, real mango, horchata, rocky road, mint chip, Uhhh the list goes on… so let’s just stop there. Other than ice cream they also have ice cream cakes, pies, malts, shakes, floats, and candy! So there’s something there for everyone.

Someone once told me… «Ice Cream is better than Sex»…
I can’t help but agree after coming to Fosselman’s Ice Cream and taking my first lick at my favorite flavor — the Espresso Coffee. To be honest, my eyes lit up as soon as I walked in, because they have such a large selection of ice cream and sorbets available. It was hard to narrow my choices down to just one or two flavors. Haha. The best part with Fosselman’s is that they are generous with their serving.
In case you didn’t know, Fosselman’s Ice Cream is a gem in the City of Alhambra. There’s always people lining up for ice cream here. I am actually that that there is still an ice cream parlor in my hometown that serves old fashion ice cream the way it should be served! Two thumbs up to the courteous and helpful staff that are always patient with my indecisiveness!
Very limited parking in the private lot next to the store, but there are plenty of free street parking along Main Street. Come visit and support a local business!

They have a lot of selection & they are all pretty good. I love their salted caramel. They also sell their popular ice creams in tubs for you to take home. There are a couple of seating areas.
Parking: there is a small parking lot on the side of the shop or you can park on the street.

Fosselmans has an old school ice cream parlor feel to it. I like it, there aren’t too many places like this! The ice cream here is sooo good! It’s so rich and creamy. Favorite is the ube. Boy oh boy, the ube is so good, probably the best ube ice cream I’ve ever tried. Grabbed a half gallon (~$ 7.50) of the ube to bring home (brought a cooler so it’d survive the trip back to oc!) and a scoop of mocha almond fudge for the ride back and that ended up being a little under $ 11. Totally worth it!
I’ll be back next time I’m in 626 :)

My significant other is OBSESSED with Fosselman’s Ice Cream. For the 13+ years that I’ve known him, I’ve never seen him go into an ice cream store except for Fosselman’s. That’s how GOOD it is. No joke!
Fosselman’s has been open since 1919 and is known for hand-​make their ice cream to this day with no preservatives. There are over 48 flavors to choose from.
I like their Cookies and Cream and significant other likes their Salty Caramel.

Today was the first time I’ve tried this place. So with over a dozen flavor to choose from I was prepared to sample until I found the right flavor. That’s what people do in an ice cream right? WRONG. My bf and I usually sample together. I usually ask for the sample and I take half a bite of that and then pass it to my bf. When I went for my 4^th sample the old man who was serving us gave me the rudest attitude. He said that we can only sample 3 flavors and it said so on the sign. Fine, my bad for not reading the sign but his attitude, his mean looking ass face, and the way he said it threw me off. Geez, he was acting as if I held up the invisible line behind me. IT WAS NOT BUSY. I would never hold up a line if there are people behind me. The freaking ghost spirist behind me are non existence. The employees here, especially him, are unhappy. Ironic for a dessert place.
My bf and I got the toffee and cappuccino flavor. These two flavors goes well with each other. We knew that cause the cappuccino was the «4^th» sample I asked for. Thank god he gave me that sample. The toffee flavor was amazing! The cappuccino was on point! I would say the flavors are good but the texture is like any other ice cream place. I am satisfy with my purchase but please can they hire happier people?
For the price, it is pretty cheap. Maybe I will come back, but most likely I’m good. But for the service I can go to other busier place with happier employees who will give me all the samples I want. Trust me, I have been to busier and happier places before (ie Salt and Straw). Sorry not sorry.

This is an Alhambra classic. Been here since childhood and one of my all time favorites is the Banana Walnut. Reasonable prices and creative, homemade flavors for cups, cones, gallon tubs, sandwiches, cakes, etc. Also plenty of candy for sale.
Parking: small lot, probably more luck with street parking.
Service: welcoming, also gives samples. Cash only!

We came here just for a quick frosty treat and it puts Baskin-​Robbins to shame. The ice cream is very fluffy and delicious. You can just taste how fresh it is from the very first bite. I was too paranoid to try something new since I didn’t know how tasty this place was, so I just ordered cookies and cream which was still pretty good.
We ordered a cake here for my sister’s birthday which was half taro and half pistachio and it was actually very delicious! They decorated it with a bear which was very good as well so it was just a perfect cake overall. (I’m sure we are just going to order ice cream cakes from here instead of baskin-​robbins despite the drive because it’s just worth it.)
Anyways, I definitely recommend this place for any level of ice cream craving. It’s the ultimate reward for your taste buds!

Thanks to social media and their ways to entice peeps, like me, to get out and about town, I recently succumbed to their power of suggestion and checked out ice cream parlors in the LA area. The goal? The goal was not to find the best ice cream parlor, nor the worst, and to see what was out there, instead the goal was to have a frame of reference when peeps or fellow Unilocalers ask, suggest, or check into places.
And so it continues… this day with fellow Unilocaler, «armed with an appetite and not afraid to use it»
PARKING:
There are a few free spots in their tight squeeze private lot. Otherwise, there is street parking.
INTERIOR:
Unlike many establishments who get caught up in the hype of its popularity and expand beyond their wallets, Fosselman’s remained humble and kept their soda fountain thin, which probably kept their wallet thick. The old time menu board, with easy to switch out any of their 40 or so flavors, is mounted on the wall for all to view.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
There were about six employees scoopin, splitin’, and blendin’ ice cream, banana splits, shakes and smoothies.
ORDERED:
Oy!!! I couldn’t decide, they offered so many of my old time faves. Reminiscences of my childhood trips to Sav-​On Drug Store with mom, where I would always go straight to the ice cream counter and order up a single scoop, in a cake cone, the one’s with names on them, (aging myself?) of either Mocha Almond Fudge or Jamocha, I ordered Mocha Almond Fudge, in a cup. Yeah, I felt like a child once more. The cream was flavorful and the nuts were toastedly crunchy.
IN A SCOOP:
The upside, they have their own parking, the downside, it’s a tight squeeze getting in and out. There was a line to get in the door from the time we arrive till the time we departed. They must be doing something right to experience a perpetual flow of brain-​freeze seekers. I believe it’s keepin’ it old skool, keepin’ it real, keepin’ it mighty mighty tasty that has kept their doors open since 1919. Side note: Lunch buddy asked me for a recommendation and without hesitation, I told her Fosselman’s.

Being an indecisive person, narrowing down my flavor choice was no easy task. Thankfully, the line wasn’t long and I had ample time to sample a few choices. Although I am always in favor of the classic mint chip, I decided on the coconut pineapple flavor. If you’re an immense lover of all things coconut, get this! The flavor was authentic and you were able to catch a sliver of coconut shred with every lick. Unfortunately, I didn’t get/​taste any pineapple at all (it was just absent, but I didn’t mind because the coconut was beyond satisfactory). The peach flavor was also amazing and refreshing, not overly sweet. I’d skip on taro though… the flavor tasted too artificial.

The peppermint stick flavor is TO DIE FOR!!! As a lover of anything mint, it was the most unique and stand out I’ve ever had. The salty caramel is also DELICIOUS.
Samples are limited to 3. I know that not because of a sign that warns you so, but the girl behind the counter was a total b*tch and needs to work on her customer service! The entire time gave us the creepiest death stare and wouldn’t SPEAK UP! I couldn’t hear her behind the counter and when I said what??? She stared at me like she was staring at my soul and wanted to kill me. She was the same serving two of my girlfriends too. So THAT SUPER ruined the vibe and just made the experience super awkward and uncomfortable. I would assume for an ice cream shop like this they’d hire happier people…
There’s plenty of tables and seats inside so you can sit and enjoy your ice cream. Eating the ice cream, I was in heaven. QUALTY ICE CREAM. But the girl behind the counter was seriously the devil.

It kills me to do this because I really want to like the cute little place. Who doesn’t like a well-​decorated ice cream store who brings me back to childhood memories of endless flavors and sweet scents? However, this is my third time here in giving this place another go and yet, another disappointment.
This time, to really base my decision off of more than one flavor, I tried a couple samples. The new seasonal pumpkin flavor, which I was initially very excited to see, ended up tasting really artificial and I could not bear the thought of eating bite after bite of that sweetness. The mocha almond fudge was fairly good but when I got to the almond bits, it threw off the mocha taste so much that I didn’t think it went well together. The salty caramel, which I almost ended up getting because it had that guilty pleasure appeal, was extremely sweet as salted caramel flavors usually are. However, I knew I would be sick of it after a couple of tastes, so I ended up with something basic: cookie dough.
I thought it would be basic and difficult to mess up on cookie dough but I was wrong. Every bite was accompanied by another thought of the wastefulness of calories when it was so unsatisfactory, so I forced it until I decided I wouldn’t even bother to finish my one scoop (even if the scoop was fairly well-​sized).
I’m really unsure of why the flavors don’t pop out for me but I definitely know I won’t be back. There are too many ice cream places in the world-​regardless of how modernized or simple they are-​for me to keep going back to places I don’t like. After all, Thrifty’s ice cream is the business for simple, traditional ice cream.

I rarely ever see brick buildings. There is a sense of permanence from the weathered bricks. I like things that last. Inside I was impressed to see you could buy half gallons of ice cream to take home. Why limit yourself to only a scoop or two. If only I lived closer. Lots of good flavors to choose from but I limited myself to just 2. Ice cream was frozen solid. Cream base was rich, high in butterfat. Root beer and lychee flavors came through strong. Both were delicious. Now I just need to figure out how to properly fill my cooler with dry ice to bring home some half gallons of the most delicious flavors.

Fosselman’s is my childhood go-​to ice cream parlor in SGV! Generous scoops that are creamy and dense with flavor. I got the english toffee (my signature choice here) and the black sesame (subtly sweet which is perfect for asian palettes).
Tip: this place is CASH ONLY.
parking is a bit tricky sometimes as the lot is small but there is street parking out in front.
There is always a line, so make sure you have in mind what you want if you don’t want to wait. But then again, you can always ask for a sample to help you make a wise, life changing decision ;)

I love me some ice cream! Dulce de leche & nutella ice cream. Delish!

Only reason this place gets 3 stars is for their ice cream options. Definitely not for the service. I’ve gone here many of times but the one day when I went to get a cake to impress my fiancé’s family at our first family gathering of the two families, I end up getting a smashed up ice cream cake. Don’t get your order from some middle aged white guy with glasses. Utter jerk and has no sense of customer service. Was rushing me and and throwing my order around when there was no one behind me!
