Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts

Fantastic customer service. Super tiny store with barely any inventory. Such a disappointment when I need to pick up supplies quickly.

I am a pretty crafty person and I generally shop at Michael’s and Joann Fabric a lot. The Alhambra location is one of two that are kind of near me. Now, it is not giant like the one in Ontario or Redlands, but you can still find what you need. They have a nice selection of fabrics. I had to stop in recently, to buy some zippers and they had many to choose from. I had a good experience with the gal who checked me out. She waited patiently as I signed into my email and brought up my coupons… additionally she then scanned through my email and scanned a few more coupons that qualified for my purchase… saving my almost $ 6!!! Woo hoo!

I’ll Give it another star because there’s a cute guy who works there now. So he makes my shopping experience little more enjoyable.

Crystal at the register last Friday was great. She helped me find what I needed when I asked as I entered the door and at the register she helped me text and get 20% off my small order.
Excellent customer service over all. I didn’t catch a name but the young lady who helped me cut my material was very nice too. No complaints.

Son’s Cub Scout troop is working on a patch and i decided to purchase some iron on paper to print the logo they came up with to transfer onto a shirt for them. I walked straight in at 9am askwd where i could find the product, grabbed what i needed and headed straight for the register (2 minutes max). The product I wanted to purchase was on a peg marked 7.99 along with 2 other packages of the same thing but scanned at 9.99 at the register. When I went to verify with another associate they would not honor though it was clearly marked incorrectly. When asked if they could honor the discrepancy they said no again so I decided to leave. Bad service Joanns. Can’t believe you’d lose a sale over $ 2. Poor customer service. Going to Michael’s instead. Way to inconvenience loyal customers.

Either this Joann’s Fabrics has a stupid policy or a stupid lazy employee. I just came in to this location and wanted to purchase 4 pieces of the same fabric at 6 yards each. Yes that’s a lot of fabric but the lady was like «it’s a special cut and we don’t do that.» My response? Last week I bought 90 yards of fabric at another location and that person was willing to cut them at 6 yards each, why can’t you? «Well that person wasn’t suppose to do that.» I’m just going to assume she was a lazy dead-​end because there is no difference if I brought to her, 4 different fabric rolls and if I wanted 6 yards each, then she’d have to cut them for me versus 1 fabric roll and wanting 4 cuts at 6 yards each. I’m still paying the same damn price regardless but she was unwilling to do it. As a customer, was I going to buy 24 yards of fabric, take it home, measure and cut it my damn self when this store had the table all measured out and ready to cut? There wasn’t anything special about this cut. Just cut the fabric I was willing to pay for. That’s how business works.

This place is one of my bad habits. The staff is so friendly. The yarn selection at this store is amazing. It definitely quenches my brocheting needs!

Lol… its laughable. Seriously, its just funny, maybe this store is a joke on purpose.

This is the worst JoAnn’s I’ve ever been to … I typically drive to the Glendale store, which is great, even though this one is closer … today, I decided to come here b/​c all I needed were a couple of skeins of yarn — what a crappy selection! 1 ½ aisles of yarn and a lousy choice at that. Never going to come back here again … waste of time.

I was planning on stopping by Jo-Ann’s because there was no other craft store in the area but I’m glad I didn’t. Horrible service. I called to double check if they accept coupons from Michael’s and this is how the conversation went.

Me: Hi, do you guys accept coupons from Michael’s?
Jo-Ann’s Employee: Yes but have you looked at our coupons? We have a lot of coupons and they’re better. Michael’s isn’t even worth it. (With a rude tone)
Me: Do you have a 40% off all regular priced paints?
Jo-Ann’s Employee: We have a 50% off one item.
Me: But that’s only one item? The one I have can be used on all regular priced items
Jo-Ann’s Employee: No. We have a coupon for ONE item.
Me: But that’s not as good as the coupon I have from Michael’s
Jo-Ann’s Employee: Well we wouldn’t accept it anyway

Don’t be rude and tell me your coupons are better than Michael’s and then proceed to give me attitude over the phone if your coupons don’t even come close. Guess I’ll be stopping by Michael’s later!

Smaller store with small variety. I have noticed some price differences between this store, their website and other Joann’s. I have come to believe that they don’t always put up their proper marketing for sales. A few weeks ago I was shopping for embossing folders and saw them on sale at a different location 3 for $ 5 which was the same price online. In this store, however, full price! I was there again a few days ago and before going in I checked their website. Embossing folders for $ 2, but in the store it was full price with no marketing anywhere showing it was on sale. I asked an associate about price matching to their website and she said I had to GO PRINT IT OUT and then bring it back. Seriously?! Can’t even price match to your own website. I ended up taking the item to the cashier and when checking out I come to find out they were on sale. Where’s the marketing?!
The sales associate I spoke with on the sales floor was also pretty rude. She started walking away while speaking to me. She wasn’t even with another customer! She just went down the aisle to clean up the walls a bit. RUDE! To be honest, I have come across a few associates that are extra friendly and will gladly help you out, but the majority aren’t friendly at all! I definitely prefer other Joann’s over this one!

Worst experience ever!
Been to two other Joanns but this ones the far the worst! Everyone seems to hate their lives here.
Service is so slow and you can even see them workers yawning lazily!

Slow with grumpy, unhelpful staff. It’s 2:30 in the afternoon for god’s sake! Why the attitudes, JoAnn’s staff? Nineteen people in line and one checker. They FINALLY requested additional checkers when I got to the front of the line (of course)!! Vince was my checker and he was an absolute breath of fresh air. My original rating was one star. But Vince kicked them up another star. I will try Arcadia next time.

Not the best and always busy. I’m always needing something, but I’m dreading the idea of visiting this location the more and more i go. The workers almost suck the life out of you, just looking at them.
It might not be the most exciting job, but the workers really don’t attempt to mask this fact. Almost always a wait at the cutting table. The workers move so so slow so don’t expect a quick trip if you’re needing fabric cut. Checking out is almost just as bad.
Never pay full price. There are always coupons on the Joanns website or on RetailMeNot. Just Google it. if you sign up for the texts, you will get charged. You can also take a pretty quick online survey for a 50% off 1 reg. Price item coupon to use on your next purchase.
You can also check inventory on the website to see if your location has what you need in stock before going in. Somewhat accurate.

I’ll be the first to admit I’m a cheapskate.
Jo-Ann’s is too expensive for me to be a regular shopper.
But, if they’ve got a Door-​buster sale going on, in addition to a %-off your entire order coupon, it’s worth going in there. Especially for fabric.
I really like being on their e-​mail list and being able to download coupons onto my phone.
I’ve got a love-​dislike thing going on with this location. But, it’s the closest one to me.
Some of the employees need to brush up on their customer service skills. Please, make me happy to shop there!

Customer service here is hit or miss. Sometimes you’ll get someone really friendly, other times you’ll get someone that has attitude. Prices here are slightly higher than that of Michaels, but overall isn’t that bad.

I have rediscovered Jo-Ann’s and I’m happy with some of the new features.
They still have a huge selection of cloth, patterns, yarn, scrapbooking stuff, and general craftiness, but they also have holiday décor, organization supplies, and idea books.
The two things that I’m excited about lately are:
1) I took an intro sewing class ($ 15 for 2 ½ hrs) — which was fantastic. I really like that they have you bring your own sewing machine to class. Vanessa was my instructor and was really patient as I was completely new to sewing. So new… that I only took my sewing machine out of the box the hour before I went to the lesson. (It was a Black Friday impulse buy from Walmart which has been sitting in its box for 2 years.) When I arrived, everything was still sealed inside their baggies. Vanessa helped me set up the machine and showed me all of the doohickey thingies on the machine, explained all of the pieces in the baggies and helped me to put them where they needed to go. She showed me how to put in the thread, fill a bobbin, and thread the needle. She showed me the stitches that my machine could do and what they would be good for. I also got to test run sewing and I made a small hamster pillow. For $ 15, this was unbelievable. I was surprised that I actually did learn from her, because I tried sewing at home a week later and I remembered all the things. The catch is that they then get you hooked on sewing and sewing supplies… so they are being truly crafty. (See what I did there?)
2) They FINALLY caught up with the electronic age and have email coupons that you can scan off your phone. They also allow your to use more than one coupon in one purchase, so get your 50% off a fabric, a 40% off a whatever, and a 20% off your total purchase. This makes me very happy.
They are smart people there… now that I can sew (somewhat), I’ll have to come back for more lessons (at $ 45 each) and start buying lots and lots of things that I don’t really need but have to have. They may even transition me over to their cupcake decorating classes… who knew? Check out their full list of classes, because there’s a lot going on for kids, teens, and adults.

I was in the mood to make my dog a shirt so we came here to grab some supplies. I was lazy to drive to Michaels so we stopped at Jo-Ann’s. What was I thinking?!
I brought my dog with me to Jo-Ann’s and she was sitting inside of my bag, minding her own business and didn’t make any noise. As I was walking down the aisles one of the staff screamed out rudely «Ma’am you can’t bring your dog in here!»
I didn’t quite understand why I couldn’t bring my dog.
–do they sell food? NO
–was my dog being disruptive? NO
–was my dog making a mess? NO
SO WHAT WAS THE BIG DEAL?!
I left the store without purchasing anything. Took my business elsewhere.

Since the one in Arcadia closed down there aren’t many other Jo-​Ann Fabrics around, so I guess beggars can’t be choosers. Hobbies aren’t cheap, it’s way cheaper to buy whatever you plan on making and faster too so craft stores like this close down. Really frustrating since for crafts sometimes you need to FEEL the fabric or texture of yarn to see how it will work up. Unless you used it before you can’t just go and buy stuff online, colors are different in person.
Biggest tip: Join their emailing list, they send out coupons regularly which is useful since some coupons can stack those with in store discounts.
It seems like their product’s price is slightly raised a bit so when it does go on sale it’s only then becomes a reasonable price but maybe that is the grumpy old person inside of me talking. BACK IN MY DAY! Sigh at least we don’t have to go out and shear a sheep, card and dye it to turn it into yarn. Or weave cotton to make cloth to make clothes. We can just dabble. ;)
Customer service is ok to non-​existent, I usually don’t need help but if you have a question you need to go on a manhunt. This store is staffed lean and I felt really bad for the employees during the holiday season, with people looking for costumes supplies for Halloween and then Christmas time DIY gifts it just never ends for them. I just went in recently and the employee seriously looked like a zombie, breathing a sigh of relief saying, «I think it’s over, the holiday rush is over! Well at least until February and Valentines Day…».
Parking is not to bad since it’s on the edge of Costco.

Hmm I have neutral feelings about this place. Sometimes I get pretty good customer service. but other times I get pretty bad customer service. Honestly, it really depends on the workers! There are some workers who are most willing to help you find anything you need and have smiles on their faces. And then there are those workers who don’t even look at you or care about helping you find anything. Those workers look like they don’t even want to be there at all!
The only other Jo-​Ann Fabrics that I’ve been to is the one back in NorCal in Cupertino. The workers there are actually a lot nicer than the ones here… but oh well, at least the store can provide me with my essentials… I’ll live!
