Trinity Hall Irish Pub & Restaurant

Four of usI went there after the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas Convention at Southfork Ranch! The food was excellent, the waiter was attentive and friendly and the beers were amazing! We all love this place and we’ll be back! 5 stars!

The food here is ok at best, but it stinks like smoke in there so bad that we couldn’t enjoy our meal. The waitress that we had didn’t know anything about their beers, but I did see that the other servers seem to know their stuff! We won’t be back.

Friendly staff, amazing beer and good food. What else would you need?
This has def grown into my favorite pub in the last couple months, the bartenders are the best around, they are all knowledgeable and quick. The wait staff is the same way, and the food, despite some other reviews i’ve read, has been spot on!

NOTE: I only come here for Bangers and Mash, so my view is somewhat limited. Right now, this is my «go to» place for Bangers and Mash. :)
I gave them a try because they popped up in a Unilocal search for «bangers and mash» in Plano.
It feels more like a pub than a restaurant, but the food I had seemed a bit better than «pub food». The ambiance is spot on.
It is not obvious that you are supposed to seat yourself and seeing lots of restaurant tables when you first walk in gives the impression that maybe you should wait.
I thought the enclosed smoking room was cool, as I was worried the smoke would really overwhelm the bar otherwise. Once I was seated, not a trace of smoke, and I was not very far from the smoking room. Kudos.
I went on a Friday, so they had live Irish music playing which only added to the ambiance.
I had the bangers and mash (hey, that’s why I came here), a pint o’ Smithwick’s, and finished it off… well, more like finished myself off… with their bread pudding.
Bangers and mash: different than I expected. I usually have it at British pubs, and thus usually the only accompaniments are mustard, baked beans, and perhaps potatoes. They served the bangers on a bed of chopped veggies, with a scoop of mashed potatoes, a wedge of cabbage, a bowl of onion gravy, and their fresh-​baked soda bread.
The bangers were great, the best part of the meal (one would hope). The veggies, cabbage, and potatoes were nice; they were not noticeably seasoned, but maybe that’s a good thing. The bread was very interesting and tasy. It’s dense and has a nice flavor that I can’t exactly pinpoint.
The bread pudding was great. One of, or perhaps the only, dessert they make completely from scratch there, but they do a good job. It’s perfectly balanced between too bland or too flavorful, and the accompaniments are nice too.

I am giving Trinity Hall one star based on the treatment I received on St. Patrick’s Day. I had been there previously, excited that an Irish Pub had opened so close to my home. As my family and I are very involved in the Irish cultural organizations via music and dance, we wanted to experience the atmosphere on what would be a national holiday in Ireland. We, however, were turned away at 5pm, by the employee at the front door, stating that NO ONE UNDER 21 was allowed in after 5pm on St. Patrick’s Day. Both of my teenage children were very disappointed and because I worked, there was no time for home-​cooked Irish food. I feel that in a small, family-​oriented community such as Allen, if management and/​or ownership made the arbitrary decision to close Trinity Hall to those under 21, then they should have chosen a later hour. As it is, 5 pm is the typical family dinner hour. Unlike their competition on Lower Greenville (Dubliner), which states it is not «kid-​friendly», Trinity Hall has no such designation, and allows kids every other night. There are even very young members from the Traditional Irish Music Education Society who have «sessions» there each month, playing Irish music for patrons, pulling in their families as well, who watch, as well as buy food and drinks. The decision to exclude those under 21 on St. Patrick’s Day was a very anti-​family move. This establishment has lost my business.

Well we all have come to expect that when one of our favorite restaurants opens a second location it tends not to be on par with the first, however Trinity Hall in Allen does not disappoint. They have the exact same menu (I think as far as I can tell) as the Mockingbird location yet they are just a few miles from our house. My first experience there was a little jarring in that they do still allow smoking in the bar area. Be warned: If you do not like smoking, do not sit in the enclosed bar area because people were doing a whole lot of smoking in there. Now that we know that we choose to sit in the non-​smoking areas and have not been bothered by it since. The walls and doors do their job of keeping the smoke out of the main dining area. Of course for this area they have a great beer list and I can always find at least one porter (a foreign word to many restaurants North of 635). As far as food goes, the seafood crepes are always wonderful along with the fish and chips or Irish stew. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone craving an Irish pub feel for dinner.

Okay. Just re-​read the other reviews and I’m wondering if I went to the same place? Address and name double-​checked. Yep. No doubt about it.
Walked into the place with a party of 6 at 6pm on a Sunday night. The first person that greeted us (a young man) was very welcoming but seemed a bit confused. He turned to an older gentleman with a beard and moustache who grumbled at us that this was a «find your own seat» place and there wasn’t any place to sit. Well, alrighty then. Should we wait? Should we leave? It was really weird. This manager person seemed sincerely disturbed that we just walked in and apparently threw off his groove.
We were shown to a very tight spot near the back. Our waitress was polite enough. The menu is varied with several classic Irish offerings (I guess?) and the standard burgers and salads. I was inclined to order something safe but decided on the Shepard’s pie. Big mistake. Big mistake unless Shepard’s Pie is supposed to taste just like ground beef topped with mashed potatoes. NO seasoning whatsoever. Seriously. I really wanted to like this dish but it was hard to overlook the fact that I really could have browned a pound of ground beef, tossed in a few frozen peas and carrots, mashed a pot of potatoes, sprinkled a little cheese and voila! Shepard’s pie. I’m no Irish cuisine afficionado but this stuff was an absolute let-​down. I cannot imagine people ordering and paying for this a second time.
My mother-​in-​law said her burger was good, my father-​in-​law was convinced his burger wasn’t really meat and my daughter thought her veggie burger was better than average. The fries we really very tasty as was the slices of dense, fresh-​baked bread that was served with our ground beef.
I left this place feeling like I wanted a «do-​overs». I hate wasting a meal on something so completely underwhelming and flavorless. Ugh.
I recommend you hit this place for drinks and fries. Some of the other appetizers sounded pretty good but I won’t be able to tell you about the food because if I ever return, I’ll only be drinking the beer.

My Husband and I have been great fans and frequent attendees of the Mockingbird location since it first opened. We live closer to the Mockingbird location and will probably continue to make it our main location. We have been to the Allen location three times for lunch now and twice in the evening just for fun and then last Friday for the Whiskey Dinner. We highly recommend the Whiskey Dinner if you have a group wanting a fun evening, excellent dinner and a start to your whiskey education or a chance to try new things. There were 10 of us and we could not have had a better time. Our waiter was helpful and always there when we needed him, but not hovering and intrusive. Marius provided the educational part of the evening and as always was very informative. We highly recommend this location and the Whiskey Dinner.

Being very familiar with the Trinity Hall at Mockingbird Station, when we found out about the new Trinity Hall location, we got here as fast as our paws could fly. It had opened just a couple weeks prior, and still had a sense of «newness» about the place. The décor was almost identical to the other location; however, this one was overall smaller-​seeming, and had a separate enclosed smoking room instead of an outdoor patio.
The same traditional Irish music heard at the other place can be found here — we encountered some Irish band members there and had a great time visiting them. The food and beer menu seemed the same as at Mockingbird Station. We recognized busy Marius D. working there due to our frequent visits to the other location.
The food quality was surprisingly high — I didn’t have very high expectations since the place was so new, and prior experiences with other brand-​new restaurants have seldom been good.
Based on one visit I can recommend the place highly, but further research is definitely in order — another Guinness, please!

Finally got a chance to visit on Sunday and had a delightful time. Trinity Hall is creating a great place to gather for enjoyment with friends and family. The place is beautifully done to give a true pub feel (I’ve visited a lot of pubs in England and Scotland). There are three non-​smoking seating areas– one of which surrounds the small performance stage. There is a glassed –in smoking area that I think must be hermetically sealed. We were seated right on the other side of the glass separating us from the smoking section and never smelled a thing. I once glanced behind me through the glass to see a guy smoking a big cigar. Don’t think I’ve ever experience so great a separation from the lung cancer set.
The managers are making a great effort to have events here — wine tasting, whisky tastings, beer tastings. European soccer matches starting at 9am on their big screen TVs. They have an awesome selection of draft and bottled beer and also a very good selection of whiskey :-) The menu is large and diverse including familiar American pub fare as well as authentic Irish dishes.
On our visit the group Paddy Gone Wild was performing. They were excellent and engaging and our whole family had a blast. You couldn’t help but feel happier after listening to them for awhile. Everyone in attendance seemed to really enjoy it. We had a mix of American and Irish food and all of it was good. It was my wife’s first Irish stew and she was delighted — perfect for a cold day.

I traveled down to Dallas many times at their location in mockingbird station and reviewed it on Unilocal.
This location in Allen seems just as festive as the Dallas location. As for pub food, well it’s pub food. Of course they have a great selection of beers and whiskeys. Yes, they allow smoking in the bar. The policy I read online is that they allow cigarette and cigar smoking. They don’t allow pipe smoking though, which is strange if they allow cigar smoking. And what «real Irish pub» would ban pipe smoking? I was hoping when they open this location in Allen they would allow smoking of any kind at the bar. Hope they change their policy.

Bad cigars? cigarettes smell worst then the worst smelling cigars. In my opinion, pipe tobacco smells better then them all!

I just love a good place to and have a nice conversation, chill out, meet new people and have a nice brew. They have a LARGE selection of brews along w/​a variety of whiskeys and bourbons. This place is true essence of what an Irish pub should be. The staff was really friendly and we weren’t afraid to ask about the different beer selections and whiskeys. There is also food, but we both had salads, and they were good, but not a good measurement to give a good review. The food menu did have a lot of «authentic» Irish food, which is rare because most places will have the usual «Fish and Chips» next to the «Nacho Platter» on the menu…
My husband and I actually tried the location off of Mockingbird on a Friday night and the place was so packed and didn’t know about the «sit anywhere you like» seating, so we were kinda lost and ended up in the patio, but after no service for 10 minutes, we left. I did not get that same feeling here at the Allen location. We were warmly greeted when we first walked in and went into the bar area because there’s a SMOKING section there (hint, hint for all you Dallas County-​ers who are not so privileged to get that right). Don’t worry if you don’t like smoke because the smoking section is closed off into a completely different room w/​a wall and doors.
Highly recommend for a place to meet up w/​some friends and hang out without being worried about the music being too loud or the place feeling too «commercial».
