Yummers! I came in here after Thai last week. I was so indecisive and the guy suggested the summer snow. So that’s what I went with. Knowing that I’d end up sharing it with the boy, I specifically asked for it to be non-dairy. Normally they put some ice cream and another cream concoction in there. The guy behind the counter, though, was so obliging when I said that it had to be dairy-free because my boy is allergic. No problem! I chose a sorbet and he offered to sub in a non-dairy sauce. So I waited(be prepared to wait since it takes time to prepare) and was just reading the articles on the wall, when suddenly the counter guy says, «oh, I’m sorry that I just messed this up. I was on auto-pilot and just naturally added the cream which I shouldn’t have. I’ll start over if you have a few more minutes to wait.» Yeah, it kind of sucked that it would be another few minutes but I think that it was so cool that he was honest about the situation and rectified it rather then not telling me(as I was not paying any attention to what he was doing) or just trying to scrape out some parts. The extra few minutes would be worth it compared to the agony the boy would be in(and the ensuing guilt trip that would follow) if there was even just a drop of dairy in it. When I got it, I was still waiting for the boy to pick me up. I ended up trying a bit. Before I knew it, I had eaten half. It took all the discipline I had not to eat the other half. Both of us really loved it the fruit with the sweet, icy snow cone mix. It kind of reminds me of the adult version of snoopy ice that I never had. Thanks mom and dad!

How many of you have been walking by Fun Food Snackery but: a) you go there with your dessert itch and they’re c-l-o-s-e-d: waah! b) you’re too lazy to walk into a semi-non conventional storefront that makes you take a few extra steps to get inside c) the desserts seem too overwhelming with all their fruit, shaved ice, East Asian glory d) you suspiciously wonder how Christina’s ice cream waded over the river from Cambridge to Allston e) all of the above We finally headed over to FFS –I just made that up – when we were f) stuffed from the Caribbean Festival in Dorchester and our-soon-after-gluttonous chowing at Jo Jo Taipei. That’s why a star is missing– you can’t experience true dessert heaven when your stomach is about to pop. Our party of four had: crêpe, sundae, crêpe, sundae(note: no East Asian amazing dessert). I must admit the missing star is also because Christina’s ice cream was an icy letdown. It doesn’t offer the creamy, flavorful punch of Tosci’s. All four stars belong to FFS’s own goodies and their sweet staff, with their fruit-chopping, crêpe-making and nutella-spreading abilites. One day, we’ll bust through the doors, have dessert as a meal, and give FFS it’s rightful five star rating. And on that day. .. . I’ll post pictures. :)

Champagne ice cream? Yes. This place rocks! I encountered a pleasant gentlemen behind the counter, who I believe is the owner. The place is really cute inside. I see a spin wheel, wonder what that is all about, check out the ice cream, looks great. See people eating crepes. What would it be? I decided I was in the mood for some ice cream. I was asked if I wanted to sample a flavor, how could I pass that up? I tried the chocolate, mmm, others look tempting, how about champagne, wow, this could be intoxicating. burnt sugar– that sounds like an interesting flavor, after one sample I decide, yes, burnt sugar. The name with burnt in it might turn you off but its soo good. Try a sample when you go in. Then he asked if I would like to choose I different flavor for the second scoop. Great! How about mango and Burnt sugar. $ 2.50 later I am out the door. Their ice cream is really good, it comes from Christina’s which is in Cambridge. I love how they support the other locals. I can see why this place how so many great reviews. They are super friendly, have lots of goodies, and the prices are so cheap. I’ll be back soon for another sweet creation.

Summer Snow! Delicious. I was expecting your average shaved ice and sugary syrup, but I got this wonderful tasting snow with my choice of fruit and ice cream/sorbet. It was absolutely refreshing and delicious. I loved the fun flower cup it was served in. Smoothie! Their smoothies are delicious and made with yummy fresh fruit. I wish I would have discovered this place at the beginning of summer.

Thanks Unilocal!I would have continued to blithely pass by the Fun Food Snackery if it weren’t for this little olé’ website. Unbeknownst to me, all my favorite Asian sweet treats have been available to me all this time in this psychedelic dessert cornucopia. In addition to bubble tea, which is now fairly ubiquitous in Boston, there is fruit on shaved ice(summer snow), hawaiian ice, and crepes with fruit or ice cream within them. Just the presence of Azuki Bean ice cream floods my heart with nostalgia for the time I spent living in Taiwan… it tastes revolting, but I love that it exists so nearby. «Summer Snow,» if you’ve never had it, sounds less interesting than it is. Basically it’s iced shaved so fine it’s like snow, with a sweet sauce topping, fruit, and a scoop of ice cream or sorbet. It’s very refreshing and light, perfect for a muggy summer day. The crepes smell and taste just like the drool-inducing ones I had all over Thailand. I also love the range of ice cream/sorbet flavors like kiwi, mango, champagne, green tea… I can’t wait to try them all. I can’t go full on with five stars because the seating is a bit weird so you feel like everyone’s listening in on your conversation. Also the brrr-ito had some structural issues and melted all over my husband’s hands. But those are minor things, easily compensated for with some forethought. I’ll definitely be visiting often this summer.

Super friendly service. The first time I went to Fun Food Snackery, I changed my mind after I put the order in and the person working there was so friendly and offered to make a new order. I love the summer snow! It’s delish and has hidden fruits on the bottom. The snackery is really cute on the inside and they even have directions on the walls on how to eat your Summer Snow. They also have a wheel for those who cannot decide what they want to order. They carry savory and sweet crepes for cheap as well.

Oh my god, Summer Snow has been added to my list of orgasmic desserts. It gets extra points because it’s rather healthy too! Riding home on the busy today, exhausted, I thought to myself, «Hey, I need a reward. I did hear about summer snow…» But then part of my brain says«No no, it’s Sunday. Things close on Sunday». So as the 57 rolls by, I see lights on! I see a person inside! And I see a sign that says they’re open until 11pm! The really nice guy inside greets me warmly, sees me eyeing the summer snow chart. He offers me a sample of the lychee sorbet to make sure I like it. Then he starts making my Summer Snow. It takes about 6 minutes because he has to fresh-cut about 4 different fruits, but after those 6 minutes he calls to me «Come pick a color!», gesturing toward a row of funky bevelled plastic cups. I really think part of the fun was picking my bright purple cup. The Summer Snow was delicious, I can barely describe it. It wasn’t even like a chunk of watery snow. Just light, sweet, fruity. It was like seratonin frozen and sent down from the sky. Next time, I want to try their«Brrr-itos». EDIT: 12.31… Are you serious? This place is closing? This is one of the greatest disappointments of my Boston life.

I went on a whim during a lunar eclipse looking for something sweet, but not terribly bad for me. I was surprised, it was good. I gave free reign to the guy working there, when I asked for their ice cream and fruit dish. He gave me blueberries, kiwi, and strawberries. I’m hard to impress with kiwi and blueberries, since they suck when out of season, these however, were perfect, so much so I asked where they bought their fruit. It was Yummy! I made my boyfriend go in his drunken stooper, and he thought this place sounded disgusting, but after a hawaiin ice, he was hooked. Treat yourself and go! I rank it one star lower, because I’m not a huge fan of chrsitina’s ice cream. The vanilla tasted weird, but the strawberry was delightful.

We drove from salem to try this place on a monday. The sign says they open at four, we waited until 4:20, and they were still not open, so we just left. On a different occasion we went when they were open, and had the summer snow. It was delish we loved it. We also tried the sugar free blue hawaiian ice and decided we didn’t like that flavor.

So besides the fact that this place has the greatest name ever, this place is awesome on its own. So after a bunch of us left Sunset we all decided to try this place out. The first thing I saw was the Unilocal sticker and I felt all proud inside while the rest of my friends(non-yelpers people) looked at me like I had 8 heads. They don’t know what their missing… The second thing I noticed was this big wheel that had this nice little incentives, like free ice cream or 50cents off. The only thing was that it was only during certain times. I asked the guy behind the counter(who was super awesome by the way) that it was my BF’s brother’s bday and if he could give it a spin. And he totally said yes! He ended up getting a free scoop of ice cream. So I had the shaved ice. Best shaved ice. EVAR! I hate when you get shaved ice or snow cones and your tooth hurts cuz it’s so cold and rock hard. I got the Tiger’s Blood which was like a coconut pineapple raspberry. He added some condensed milk on top and it was DELICIOUS. it was not hard at all, it was a perfect consistency and he did NOT skimp on the flavoring. And it comes in this little cone and they give you a stand to put it on. Everyone was jealous of my stand… The BF’s brother ended up getting 2 scoops and I paid for it(I’m nice like that) and the grand total was less than $ 5.00. Amazing. They had a lot of nummy stuff on the menu, and I’m so coming back here.

What a fun place! It was cold, so we skipped the ice cream and just got hot drinks. The nutella hot chocolate was great; why didn’t I think of this? The chai was heavy on the nutmeg and tasted like it had more in common with a pumpkin latte than masala tea. But I’ll be back for ice cream and waffles and summer snow.

Whether you’re going here on a hot summer day or arriving on a chilly winter night, there are plenty of options at Fun Food Snackery that can satisfy anyone’s taste. My personal favorite is the Summer Snow with Three Fruits, Secret Sauces, Condensed Milk, and Surprise fruits at the bottom [ I’ve gotten grapes, watermelon, and canteloupe ] topped altogether with a generous scoop of Christine’s Ice cream/Sorbet [ I LOVE the Passion Fruit Sorbet]. I live a good distance away from Allson, however, me and a couple of friends always come back after dinner for a refreshing snack or dessert. Their Hawaiian Ice is amazing with unique flavors, and watching them make their crepes is also entertaining. The workers and the main owner, Arthur Mach, are amazing. They’re extremely nice, welcoming, and helpful. I always brag about this place to my friends because its healthy, affordable, and very tasty. I highly recommend this place.

This place is great. I’ve never had anything bad from here, and a lot of things I’ve ordered have actually made me curse aloud because they taste so damn good. I first went there in June, soon after they opened, looking for something cold. And there it was: the Summer Snow, consisting of fresh fruit, shaved ice, sorbet, and SECRETSAUCES. Unlike anything I’ve ever had elsewhere, and worth buying even when it’s 10 degrees outside. Not to be overlooked is the insane variety of ice cream/sorbet flavors they offer, which rotate on a daily(weekly?) basis. Among the best: burnt sugar, blood orange, pumpkin, and concord grape. Don’t neglect the crepes, though; you get to watch the guy make them with a magical-looking tool and military precision. And they’re really, really good. To take Fun Food Snackery from great to fucking awesome, the place seems to have been decorated by a ten-year-old with a love of bright colors. The walls are yellow, and one component of the Summer Snow is described as «neato-finito». It’s really almost enough to cause terminal levels of glee. Stop in here one night after dinner and I guarantee you’ll be back.

Have been wanting to go here since I read about it in the Globe. Fun concept and yummy treats. I got the Summer Snow with ginger ice cream(love ginger ice cream) and it was delish. The fruit was yummy and the snow was a great texture with sweetness. Felt lighter and healthier than an ice cream sundae. We also tried their crepes. Crepes are hard to do well but they did a great job. Fun little spot. I hope they do well.

I waited a while before reviewing this shop because I wanted to hit it a few times before making a full judgment. After 4 trips, I must say that this is one of the best places you can possibly go on a hot summer day(or even if it’s not so hot). 5 stars simply on the merit of their service. The staff behind the counter are exceptionally personable, always have a smile on their faces, and are genuinely happy that you decided to pay them a visit. If you choose to go, you mustMustMUST try their Summer Snow. It begins with a small mountain of very thin shaved ice, which almost has the consistency of fluffy ice cream rather than grainy Italian ice. That is topped with a generous portion of fruit; then they pour on a bit of their«Secret Sauce.» Best part is next: you choose one scoop from a nice selection of Christina’s Ice Cream(another contributing factor to the 5 stars). Usually, there’s a varied fruit surprise at the very bottom(the latest time, I got watermelon balls). You can also have them pour condensed milk over the whole thing if you so desire. All to the tune of about $ 4.50. They also offer a wide array of smoothies and dessert crepes. $ 4 minimum on credit cards. I highly recommend!

This place is awesome! I love the shaved ice and three fruit topping dessert! Its perfect if you want something cold and sweet but not heavy like ice cream, but if you do want ice cream, they have that too! I love the staff here, the owner is awesome. The flavors are a bit unusual so they let you sample. Wish it was bigger so there were more places to sit and hang out for a bit, but thats my only complaint. UPDATE: So not only has that *genius* Art added more seating, there has been a major menu expansion and prices are still just as awesome. I happily add a 5th star to this review and encourage everyone to travel out to Allston to support Fun Food Snackery!

This is an adorable little ice cream/smoothie/crêpe/shaved ice/fresh fruit concoction-shoppe. The staff seems to brighten up whenever someone walks through the doors. They aren’t always the quickest with service so you might not want to go if you are in a rush. It is worth the wait though! They have a summer-snow-something? — It’s shaved ice&flavoring, your choice of 1 – 3 fresh fruit toppings(real fruit), and a scoop of Christina’s Ice cream to top it off. And you get to pick the color of the«flower cup» that it comes in. Can’t beat that. Ice Cream toppings are free!(sprinkles/coconuts/m&ms and maybe something else).

This is an adorable place in a neighborhood that, despite its wonderful selection of restaurants, is decidedly un-adorable. All I care about is this is the closest place to my house that serves Christina’s ice cream.

Points for originality. I had piña colada shaved ice on top of ginger ice cream. My initial reaction was WTF? Why am I eating shaved ice, with flavoring syrup from a plastic bottle, on top of Christina’s ice cream? Portions of the shaved ice aren’t even flavored! But soon I felt completely refreshed. The zippy flavors and the granita-like iciness are perfect for summertime. I left with my thirst quenched and a zing in my mouth. I wonder if they will have have the same flavors during the winter. There were fresh fruit options that I didn’t try(including avocado shakes – probably as exotic as the menu got). This place seems like a natural to serve Malaysian cendol or ABC, but stuff like that isn’t on the menu. Give it a try, you’re bound to like it.
