I finally pulled into this hodgepodgey place on the North Side of tv highway to get my coveted and highly prized Hatch chiles. I got out of the car with a $ 20bill in hand and approached the nice lady. Im looking for chiles! She eyed my cash and told me that would buy me 3 ½ pounds of chiles, that they only had hot ones left, and grabbed a full bushel basket of chiles off the table of produce. Do you have roasted ones? I roast them for you she said, putting them on the scale. I determined we only really needed two pounds(that looked like plenty) and she took my money saying $ 12 and headed for the barrell roaster. She dumped them in, lit the fire, then asked me and my companion to turn the handle while she rang someone else up. She came back just as we were afraid they were too too black and put them in a double plastic bag for us. She was also full of helpful menu suggestions(burgers are her fav) and really very nice. This may have been expensive compared to roasting myself but it was an adventure. She is a character. The chiles made for some delicious enchiladas verdes. The rest are in the freezer for later. P. S. The place has other produce, honey, and plants. Sweet!

I started visiting these folks when they were in the parking lot of Harvey’s Marine. They have since moved across the street and have a much larger covered area an a bunch more parking. My friend Janet has been telling me about Hatch Peppers and I always knew they roasted them on site but I never bothered to try any and I am am pepper fiend. This year I was inspired, I stopped by and she roasted 2 lbs of Hatch Chili’s for me and I also picked up some gorgeous peaches, local corn and a cucumber. The prices are a bit more than the grocery store but she sources everything locally. The gal running the show was very nice and informative. Great place to pick up some fresh roasted Hatch Chili’s and great quality local produce!
