Best Haircut I’ve ever had in my life. Without a doubt.

It’s no wonder this place has all five star reviews. Jesse is fantastic, I absolutely love my cut. I’ve been getting versions of more or less the same hairstyle for years from different stylists, but he definitely had an eye for what I was asking for and what I didn’t realize I was asking for. It came out fantastic, I couldn’t be happier!

Kate is amazing! I went for my first facial with her a few months ago and was so excited to go back again, and was not disappointed at my next visit. Chill, relaxed atmosphere and the products she uses are amazing. My skin was all out of whack after the birth of my baby and she helped get it glowing again. I would recommend her to anyone with sensitive skin looking for a great facialist.

Jesse seems like a nice guy but I hate it when hair stylists give their opinion and make you believe that inches upon inches need to be cut. I have been growing my hair for a long time and I needed a haircut. I found Jesse on Unilocal and decided to go to him as he’s close by instead of driving 30 miles to my stylist.
He gave a nice cut and style but took off too much length. Just like many stylists :/​
When my hair grows back I’ll be sure to make the drive to my girl in culver city.

The very last time I got my hair done, there was a severe miscommunication. When I said to my then hair dresser, «I’m trying to grow out my hair» she must have heard «one Joan Jett a la The Runaways please!» because that’s what I got. My steadily growing lob hacked to a shaggy… shag, It was an utter disaster. You can imagine it would be very hard for me to trust again. Cut to this year. I’m loving my long hair, but in desperate need of styling. My sister and I both suffer from what we like to call «triangle hair,» which means that not only do we have thick hair, but thick hair whose volume lies at the ends and nothing at the roots. I made an appointment with Jesse one day after work and brought several sample pictures on my phone to show for inspiration. Jesse immediately suggested we layer my hair to create movement and texture, which is just what I needed. He also thinned out the back which had become very bulky and felt like such a weight. I can tell you folks, when it comes to hair, Jesse knows best! Though it’s been several weeks since my cut, I am still loving it. It’s lighter, bouncier, and frames my face better, all without having to sacrifice much length at all. I couldn’t be happier with the price, well worth it! Thanks so much Jesse, I feel like a whole new gal!

This review is for Kate O’Grady’s Skin Folk spa contained within Outlaw & Anchor. Kate’s hands are like magic, and not only was my skin glowing and baby soft immediately afterwards, but it was a more relaxing, transcendent experience than most massages I’ve had. She is a great listener, truly cares about your experience and finding the best solutions for your skin. I’m in my late 40’s and am looking for someone to help me with a skin care regimen that is affordable and effective, but also uncomplicated. I’ve found her!

I have been looking for a regular esthetician for facials for several years. Each time I try someone new, I’m usually happy with the experience but not thrilled enough for a second visit. A couple of months ago, I came across a business card for Kate/​Skin Folk at a local restaurant in Altadena, so I decided to give her a try. I’m very happy to report that I’ve been back for multiple visits and have finally found my go-​to facialist! Kate is fantastic, uses high-​quality products, and is very results-​oriented. In addition to feeling relaxed and spoiled during the facial, my skin looks and feels wonderful for days afterwards, and I feel like my skin is starting to get in better shape overall. Her prices are also excellent ($ 70 for a 1-​hour facial), which means that I can actually afford to go on a regular basis. Kate also offers different types of peels, so I’m aiming to try one of those around the holidays (or perhaps early next year for the big 4 – 0!). Oh – almost forgot — Kate is super nice, very knowledgeable about skin, and is a pleasure to chat with. :)
A few quick tips/​notes… Outlaw and Anchor is actually based in a private residence, so it can be a bit tricky to find since the store front doesn’t face the street. One you locate the street address, though, the door is clearly marked and there is a sign in the apartment complex courtyard to point you in the right direction. Also, the interior is nicely laid out and separate from the main living area, so you don’t feel like you’re in someone’s home once you get upstairs. I actually like the «feel» of this place much better than a full-​service spa or typical salon — it feels like I’m really supporting a local business when I go there.

Finally came back to Jesse after letting my hair grow out. He’s still just as amazing and talented as he was last time. He added in some light layering throughout my hair to complement my hair’s natural waves so that it doesn’t just hang down. It looks incredible! He used a curling wand to finish it off and I love it! It’s so easy to style. Jesse gets it. He takes the time to check out your hair and he’ll maximize your hair’s potential with a cut that lasts.
I’ve never seen any business, salon or otherwise, with all 5-​star reviews! Even his «not recommended» reviews are all 5-​star as well. You really owe it to yourself to see Jesse and let him work his magic on your hair. You won’t regret it!

I recently had an hour long facial by Kate and it was awesome! I highly recommend her. It was a very rare cold and rainy day in Altadena when I went, and being greeted by Kate with a hot stress-​relief tea was the perfect start to a relaxing session. I really enjoyed her space. It’s super clean and private so you can truly relax. Kate is a total sweetheart and you can tell from her great work that she enjoys what she does. In fact, she’s so awesome, I’ve already purchased an hour session as a gift for a friend. I also purchased a product that she used, and I’m really enjoying it — Beta Green Tea Cleanser. Looking forward to following up with an «express» facial!

This review is long overdue. I’ve been going to Jesse for years now and would not go to anyone else to get a haircut. Before finding Jesse, I tried out at least 10 other places and was disappointed with every one. Jesse not only cut my hair the way I wanted it but also came up with a style that I really love. I highly recommend Jesse!

This business just hired a licensed esthetician, Kate O’Grady, and she is absolutely phenomenal. Her business, Skin Folk, located inside the oh-​so-​cool Outlaw and Anchor hair salon, is a perfect addition to Altadena. I had a «face lift facial» and what I can tell you is that Ms. O’Grady has that rare trait where she is able to combine exceptional skill with her hands and knowledge about her product line, along with a keen sense of the customers’ experience of being vulnerable on the table. At all times I felt relaxed and comfortable in her contemporary treatment room while she attended to my aging skin, meanwhile subtly educating me about my home care regimen and how I can improve it. Go see Kate. Ask her questions! Get her advice! She’s brilliant!

the first week in May Jesse added an esthetician to his salon. What an addition. I had the full hour Men’s treatment. What a treat. I fell asleep a few times it was so relaxing and refreshing. Catherine has a 30 minute treatment as well and that is next on my list of things to try. I know I will enjoy this and I am sure it will become part of my regular routine at the salon. Thank you to Jesse and Catherine for coming together and providing these services.

I’ve literally gotten my haircut at the same place my whole life, getting the same haircut each time. But I finally decided to be less boring and I found Outlaw and Anchor on Unilocal.I booked an appointment for a men’s haircut, which was more expensive than usual for me so I was a tad skeptical, but after meeting Jesse and getting this amazing haircut I freakin’ get it. He seriously gave me the best haircut I’ve ever had and he’s also a super chill, down to earth, funny dude. I can’t recommend this place enough and I am definitely going back!

Ok so I am super picky when it comes to getting hair cuts, it’s always something left a little too long, or a little too short, or accidentally shaved off my eye brow… :(BUT Jesse’s cut was perfection! I usually have to style my hair with paste to cover up all the screwed up uneven cuts i’ve gotten, but with Jesse i think my hair looks pretty damn good when dry and without product! :D
Anyway, thanks Jesse for a great cut! See you in a few weeks! :)
Oh! I forgot to mention the scalp/​neck massage was incredible… almost passed out! haha: D

Love love love Jesse! I am always happy when I leave and am amazed that my cut will still look good 6 weeks later — and for short hair that’s a miracle. I’ve been seeing Jesse for just over a year and not only is he an awesome stylist, he’s a wonderful person.

My hair is amazing and it’s all thanks to Jesse.
Jesse has been styling me and my husband since we moved to Altadena and I wish we knew of him before — I would have been saved from so many hair disasters.
He does a few things particularly well:
GREAT guys cuts. He is the only stylist in the history of ever who doesn’t cut my husband’s hair too short.
STUNNING balayage — he is a great colorist with an artist’s eye.
EDGY cuts — if you want something innovative he will figure out a way to make it work for you and make you look amazing.
His salon is beautiful, very private and calming, with nary a detail too small for his designer sensibilities (recently, with Halloween coming up, he had books of scary stories out in the waiting area). You can book online and he’s very responsive by email. Jesse himself is a prince of a guy, he will put you right at ease and you will have a great time together.

Jesse Jay is fantastic. Period.
I was referred to him by my good friend (and MOH) for an upstyle for my wedding. Not only did he quote me a more-​than-​reasonable price, but he insisted on practicing the style until he felt confident that it was exactly what we both wanted. I think he was more concerned with getting things perfect than I was, and my hair looked phenomenal!
On top of the wedding-​do, Jesse has done my color on numerous occasions, and I’ll never go anywhere else!
He’s reasonably priced, conveniently located, fun, sassy, refuses to let me shave my head on a whim. What’s not to love?!

I will admit that I am horrible at going to get my hair done. I never have any idea what to do with my intense curls and I get nervous about choosing something which usually results in my lack of actually visiting a stylist.
So when I arrived for my first appointment with Jesse, I did my usual, «Don’t know, don’t care, make me look good,» routine that usually has stylists look at me like I’m an idiot then proceed to shave all my hair off. Jesse, on the other hand, sat me down and suggested look after look, giving reasons as to why I would look good with each. I was at a loss as to how a hair stylist could actually know more than just how to hold a pair of scissors and/​or throw chemicals at my hair to color it. We decided to use a relaxer (I’d never even thought it was possible to have straight hair for myself!), and the outcome was stunning.
Not only was Jesse knowledgeable about what he thought I would like, but he gave me instructions on products and how to wear my new style that made me leave feeling actually good about dealing with my hair everyday! His skills are wonderful, his facility is beautiful and his attention to details while working with your hair as well as what products to use on your own are unmatchable. I know I’ve found my hairdresser for as long as I’m in the area! Highly recommended!

Jesse is fantastic. I ALWAYS get compliments on his haircuts. They look great from day one and require minimal maintenance. I don’t know enough about haircuts to understand *how* he gets his cuts to be so much better — but they really are.
His private studio is chill, super clean, and always has good music playing. Jesse is definitely a find! My husband and I are clients for life. I just hope he’ll grandfather in his faithful clients’ current rate when he gets discovered and starts charging $ 500+ a cut!
