PugHearts – Houston Pug Rescue

I have to agree with the previous reviewer, this adoption agency is a huge disappointment. They are so PICKY, and unhelpful. They go on and on about how buying puppies from breeders or pet stores are wrong but they deny families that can provide these rescue pugs good, loving homes, almost leaving you no choice but to go through these «HORRIBLE» outlets. It’s a shame they are the only pug rescue in town.

I’ve had the complete opposite experience compared to the comment below… This rescue makes sure that each animal is taken care of. First, you must be APPROVED TO ADOPT. You can’t simply just adopt any animal you like, even if you are the best pet owner ever. They want to make sure that each animal has a FOREVER home. They are very thorough, which required a lot of patience on my part as it takes time; however it makes absolute sense since every pug has a troubled past of their own. A majority of the PugHearts people are VOLUNTEERS, yet they work so fast to try and find loving, yet permanent, homes for each pug. I have been ignored a few times by the admin, however it is simply because many of the group members can answer my questions. They travel ALL over Houston to pick up numerous pugs in need, at any day, any hour. I am in no way affiliated with this group, I am just a satisfied member on their Facebook group.

I am thoroughly disappointed with this rescue. An animal was posted on their facebook page as needing adoption immediately, as it has been in a shelter in Louisiana for over two months. I quickly responded, stating that I would take in the animal, and I just needed to call and see what her temperament was like so that I could ensure I could give her the life she deserves. Upon mentioning this, I was attacked and a woman jumped down my throat saying «how dare I try and take in a dog that was posted through the rescue page.» and that I was rude… Mind you, this animal is in the SHELTER and is not even in HOUSTON. I messaged the group admin to try and understand why I was being attacked and she responded with «you really think I’m just going to HAND you a dog? You HAVE to go through my rescue in order to get it. I’ve spend $ 31,000 in animal care last year, do YOU have $ 31,000 to spend on animal care?» ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. I was simply trying to HELP an animal that I thought may be a good fit for me and rather than that, I was publicly ridiculed on the facebook page, and had awfully rude things said to me via facebook messenger by the «president» of the group. Why is it that, if this animal is at risk of being put-​down that they absolutely MUST have it in their possession before I am able to obtain it? I am a responsible adult that makes a very decent amount of money and I have been trying to find an animal that would be a good fit for me. It’s ridiculous that I was being treated like I was stepping on someone’s toes for trying to do a good deed.
Secondly, I had tried to reach out to this rescue before and was COMPLETELY IGNORED until this point in time.
This rescue promotes despicable behavior, the prolongation of animals who are in kill shelters, and flaunts the money that they spend.
They are not here to help you, they are here to get paid and try and make themselves look good.
Use anyone BUT PugHearts of Houston, as I can assure you you will be treated like garbage.
As a sidenote: The only other Unilocal review is obviously written by someone affiliated with their group. Do not be swayed by false reviews.

PugHearts is a Pug rescue and adoption organization in the Houston area. They accept surrendered animals, rescue animals in need, and look for Pugs at local animal shelters.
They are a very well run and professional organization. I just adopted a 6 year old female Pug, Princess Olivia «Biscuit», from them last week and they were beyond thorough to make sure she was getting a loving, permanent home.
She has been the perfect pet so far! I credit her foster mommy and the organization for matching me with a dog that is happy in my home and with me.
