I ordered tuna sushi, and when it arrived at the table the fish was brown. Fresh tuna should be bright pink/red. Even dark red is sorta ok. Still means it’s old, but brown is no bueno. This place is definitely non-Japanese. And we all know who makes the best sushi. Stop serving old FISH!!!

Best place for sushi in town, especially if you go during happy hour! Must try a lychee martini yum!

I love their sushi specials. The salmon is always fresh and the service is fantastic.

If you need a sushi fix in the panhandle this will suffice. I wouldn’t say that the service is bad it’s just some of the employees do not act professional in front of customers. I do not recommend anything with tuna in it. The tuna they purchase is very discolored and not fresh at all. If they were to purchase quality ingredients then I would give a higher review. They are also stingy with their portions of sushi and the rice falls apart before you can bring it to your mouth. I have eaten here three times in the past year two of those times they were out of cucumber?!? I wonder how does that even happen at a sushi bar?

Came here for all day happy hour on Wednesday. Worst waitress I’ve had in 15+years. Messed up orders, forgot orders, and double charged a bunch of items even though we told her ahead of time how we were going to split checks. It took us 30 min to get our checks and leave. I spoke with the manager just trying to leave, and she took care of everything in less than a minute. Her name is pronounced«bee» and she was very helpful. I’m willing to go back to give it another shot. Didn’t have the food, but happy hour was 3 ½ stars. Cool place, awesome manager. –spoke with other waitresses, they seemed like they had it together better than our waitress tonight.

My husband is in AMA for work and I was visiting for a few days. We love sushi and decide to give Rain a try. As soon as we walked in, it had a horrible odor. It smelled like a dirty convenient store bathroom. Naturally, this doesn’t really sit well with us or make us feel comfortable eating at Rain. We sat outside to avoid the horrendous smell. We decided to have a recommended roll, Monkey Balls. It was decent, but nothing to rave about. The service was decent, hence the reason for more than 1 star. Overall, we will not be back. Dirty and overpriced

I went through the reviews on here feeling unsure of what to expect. It seems that it’s either a hit or a miss. I can’t point out anything about my experience that was bad, besides the atmosphere being pretty loud(but that’s to be expected at a place like this). We went on a double date on a Wednesday night. Thank goodness happy hour is all day Wednesday! If it weren’t for that I honestly wouldn’t come here. The menu is EXPENSIVE. Happy hour, worth it. My husband and I ordered 3 different rolls and an appetizer from the happy hour menu and it was plenty for both of us at dinner! I also got a Lagunitas IPA as well(I was happy with their beer selection and I’m picky) The waitress checked on us regularly and made sure our waters were full. She even kept checking on us after we’d paid our tab and sat there an hour after just talking. I’d come back on a Wednesday or during lunch happy hour!

I have been a regular at Rains for the past few months and I can say the food is usually good but pricy, is best if you make it to Sake Sushi nights on Mondays(great deal) or for happy hour on Wednesday(too noisy). We have tried all the appetizers on the menu, all so far are good, my favorite are the lettuce wraps. Sushi here is usually good, my favorite told so far are the eel rolls($$$) and the crunchy rain roll($). For desert, give the banana desert roll-forgot the name… very good indeed. Overall a good experience, a more upscale hip atmosphere but watch the tab, can get expensive.

Good HH specials. HH/Specials prices were amazing! Half off selected sushi rolls, $ 3 wine, $ 2 beers, and I think I remember seeing a $ 10 sake + roll special on Mondays. As for the food, I didn’t expect too much coming from a little town in Texas, but the Ahi Tacos and Tsunami Roll were decent. I would definitely recommend the Ahi Tacos and Gyoza. The sushi was a little better than supermarket quality but still eatable. I don’t think I would come back again to only get sushi as my main meal here. The atmosphere was definitely very trendy and modern. Definitely a fun place to hangout at night with friends. I’d probably only come back for the HH drink and appetizer specials.

Atmosphere is really nice. Maki rolls were large and tasty. Very crowded and NOISY on Wednesdays. HH all day that day. Be prepared to wait for service. We will be going back though.

This place was wonderful! It’s located downtown in a fabulous old 1930’s era theater. The décor is very trendy, yet nice. I was in town for a work trip and came here at the suggestion of a friend who spends much time in the area. This place was wonderful! First, the happy hour prices are AMAZING!!! A glass of house wine was $ 3 and domestic beer was only $ 1.50! Happy hour runs until 7 and also includes a variety of food and sushi items. The 7 – 8 rolls listed on the happy hour menu appeared to be half price. While we were deciding what to order, our server brought us a complimentary plate of edamame. I was super excited because every time I eat sushi I order edamame and I did not see it on the menu. It was delicious(marinated in some kind of soy sauce) and such a large plate of it that my friend and I could not finish it. Service was spot on. My water glass was never empty for long and the glasses even had a cucumber slice in them. I ordered one of the rolls on the happy hour for dinner and it was not only delicious, but the 8 pieces were almost too much for me to eat. Additionally, I ordered a cup of miso soup, which was also quite delicious. By the time we left, we were both extremely and pleasantly full. And the tab was so low! Coming from Austin, I typically have high expectations for trendy restaurants, especially sushi ones. I must say that this place did not disappoint.

Awesome nightlife vibe here at Rain Sushi Bar in downtown. Best times to be here are on Wednesdays and weekends. Mainly been coming here for drinks on Wednesdays for HH. Great bar staff and wait staff.

I took my mother to Rain to kind of introduce her to sushi, not really knowing what to expect. We loved it. The Cajun roll is out of this world, and everything was very reasonably priced. They have an all day happy hour on Wednesdays and regular happy hours every day but Sunday. The service was also very good. I will definitely be coming back.

Only thing that is good is a sake bomb BUT they don’t even do that right, it should be done with a pint of beer in a glass not half in a plastic cup… Oh Yeh the food is not that good either for what you pay; you are basically paying for atmosphere. …

Sushi is okay, but far from great. Staff knowledge of the menu is weak. Asked for Sake Toro(fatty salmon) and was asked what size bottle did I want?! Asked for Salmon Skin handroll — got a regular roll. Asked for nigiri, got shashimi! Just get my order right! A menu item said«wrapped in rice paper», but was wrapped in a heavy wonton wrapper! Plus service was very slow!!! Unless you have 90 minutes for lunch, do not go — I left without receiving all my order. Restaurant would close in a larger city. You can pay way less at other places in town and get same sushi. Not worth the money or trip downtown. Avoid!

place has a great happy hour and from what i hear the food is good as well, def going to have to try the sushi. Had live entertainment and the band playing were good. Atmosphere is very laid back, good vibe all in all. Will return to explore more of their menu. Bartender Jesus is the man! Stop by and give this place a shot.

Eh… We get the distinct impression this place was happening when it first opened, but now the owners are M.I.A. and the place is going downhill fast. As a disclaimer, we aren’t from Amarillo and do travel, a lot. The décor was comparable to a more metropolitan area, the lighting blues, purples, etc(which DID make our sushi look green — little yuck if you ask me). The music was a fun mix of 80’s hip hop which worked for a Saturday night and the venue. I know it sounds weird. The place was hot since the doors were open to the outside and cigarette smoked floated in pretty bad. The entrance is confusing, and if you walk in the wrong door, you do not get acknowledged by ANY of the staff. ANY of them. Our waitress was either very new or poorly trained(as the rest of the staff appeared in the place). She did just about everything wrong and I won’t bother with the details since she was nice at least. The food was just, eh. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t good either. Spicy tuna was a tad bit fishy… the other rolls fairly unimpressive. The manager appeared to be M.I.A. as well. Drinks were cheap enough, but I came to get sushi, not drunk :) All in all, it was o.k. I get why people hang here since there are some pretty questionable clubs up the street and there doesn’t appear to be a whole lot to do in the area(please don’t take offense Amarillo!)

Ok, read my reviews. I have eaten at some nice places across the country. With that said… going to Rain in Amarillo is lot like having a blind date with a woman that you have been told is beautiful. Only problem is, the beautiful woman has no soul. This is Rain. Yes, Rain looks like a restaurant you might see in downtown Dallas… but the service is something you might expect in downtown Dalhart. We walked in and were seated on a Thursday night at 7:30pm. Upon seating, we were not immediately greeted by our server. We perused the menus. Then we noticed that all the servers were busy… not with customers, but cleaning chairs, clearing tables, sweeping, talking to their friends… etc. I turned sidways in my chair and began to try and make eye contact with a server… any server. Nope, noone made eye contact. So I raised my hand and finally a young ladey came by to see if I needed anything. She said she would take care of us. Took our drink order. 15 minutes later she came back with our drinks. My martini was a half poor and wasnt even cold enough to frost the glass. She took our order. Immediately, she went back to cleaning. She was busy with the cleaning, and as someone who worked in the industry in college… it was obvious she was trying to get«cut» so she could go home. 30 minutes later another waitress brought our food. We ordered the hot rocks dinner and a sushi roll. Rolls are good, but nothing special. The hot rocks dinner was one of those meals you«cook» yourself at the table. It was adequate, but there was nothing special about it. Our waitress continued cleaning, ignoring our empty glasses, and after I waived my arms at her, she finally came over and was charged with getting me my check. Upon returning with my bill, she gave me the sickly sweet«Thanks for coming in, and if theres ANYTHING else you need please let me know, yall have a good night»…you know, the lil speech that a bad server gives trying to salvage a tip. I HATETHAT! Someone needs to remind the managment at this establishment that their service is what makes or breaks a restaurant. The service at Rain in Amarillo… well, it sucks. With average food, and a groovy atmosphere. they might fool some of the people some of the time… but, not for long.

Tasty stuff and killer happy hour! I will admit that I am partial toward ordering simpler rolls with tuna and avoid anything with cream cheese or anything that gets too complicated. I’ve always been happy with the menu — everything from appetizers, rolls, desserts and drinks. The service in the bar area always seems to be a bit slow, but I’ve had better experiences in the dining area and usually prefer to sit there.
