Windsor Hotel

Hotel is awesome and so are the staff ! Lobby is awesome and so are the rooms. I stay here every chance I can. Food is great in restaurant or the bar which is Floyds Pub. Maybe someday I will get to see a ghost, that has been seen before.

Great place at a decent price. Staff was incredible and the food in the restaurants were great too!

I hated my two nights here. Ugly room with creepy pipes running across the ceiling. A lobby that looks like a funeral parlor. Horrible restaurants. Unresponsive staff. Really just bad all around.

Hotel was really lovely. You truly felt like you were stepping back in time when you walked through the front doors. All the modern comforts of other hotels. Staff was polite and tried to help us find a place to eat in the area. Room was clean and well appointed. I was surprised that we had a view of a brick wall given the hotel is on a corner. I guess every other hotel room with a view was booked for the evening. I was also amazed at how everything in the area closed so early on Saturday evening. We checked in at 4pm and couldn’t find a restaurant that was still open. This was not the hotel’s fault though. If you ever are in the area, I would most definitely recommend this hotel.

Beautiful hotel. Unforgivable that you can’t get a cup of coffee in the morning. Of course, the rest of this small town can’t help you, either.

My first time ever visiting Americus and I chose to stay here after seeing the place on Georgia Traveler. Reserved the queen executive suite and it was amazing. The hotel has such history and beauty it just must be seen to be believed. As soon as I walked in I knew it would be great. My room was perfect, my parking was perfect, my towels were perfect… blah, blah, blah…
I must give highest compliments to Tara at the front desk, who graciously invited me to take the tour that evening at 8pm, so I decided to. Got a complete history of the place, great trivia, great facts, hidden staircase, visit to the top floor (no electricity… really hot!!!), and also to the basement. Plus the history of the haunted-​ness of the place, which… ACTUALLY HAPPENED! No joke. We came around the corner of the 3R floor, where the hauntings/​happenings happen, and it had just happened. Freaked me out a little and I ended up not sleeping until after midnight.
Guys, give Tara a raise and let me have a drink with her when I come back, ok?

This hotel is beautiful. This was my first stop during my trip to the south having never been. I was in awe of the beauty and charm this hotel has not to mention its notarity for past history and current haunted fame.
I had a bit of trouble with the lock on my door but it was completely my fault, I wasnt fast enough after putting the key card in. The manager, Vic came to assist and when he opened the door he stayed to tell me about the history of the area and the things I should see and do.
I ate in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and both meals were excellent. The dining experience made me feel I was going back in time. The marble titled floors, soft oal throughout is just georgous. It was nice to go down the steps to the second floor for the dining room.
It is worth the trip and make sure you look around the town and see the near by Civil war sites and dont miss Plains!

I stayed here in the mid 2000s. It had been renovated, but it remained damp and a bit old. Beautiful, but still in need of some work. I didn’t think I would come back.
Fast forward to 2014 and here I was, back again. Wow. Wow. Wow. The second renovation in 2010 transformed the hotel. I had a wonderful time. My room was well appointed (not damp this time). The hotel has so much charm, beautiful interior and exterior spaces to sit and watch the world go by. The internet (non-​present last time) was fast and reliable (probably not easy in an old building like this). I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
I would definitely come back. I think it would be wonderful if Americus could some how leverage the presence of Georgia Southwestern more, especially in the old downtown. Turning some of these buildings into residences for students might provide the type of boost to the town that Savannah has seen from SCAD. And for the Windsor hotel it would give its guests some more options for shopping etc… I think it would be a win all round. I hope it happens because I want more excuses to come back to Americus and stay in the Windsor Hotel.

We stayed here 2÷1÷14. My wife and I stayed here once before in 2013, and decided to come back with my parents.
Last time was great; this time not so much.
It was partially the other guests, but also the construction of the hotel. At first we were given room 214, but the people talking LOUDLY in room 220 caused us to request us to be moved. I may sound like a whiner, but when I paid $ 112 for the room, I can do without hearing their conversations about subject verb agreement and math teachers.
So we were moved to room 332. That room was better. This room was on the same side as the hotel bar. Either a band was in the bar, or a bar out in town was playing loud music until past midnight.
Highlight of the stay was waking at 5:39 to the sounds of amorous heavy breathing, moans, and sighs from down the hall, and the cursing of the completion of their interlude.
The hotel is neat to be sure, the architecture and décor is fascinating. But be aware that it’s not built to current standards as far as noise is concerned.
The staff was great, and moved us happily.

I walked into the Windsor hotel and pretty much just died and went to heaven. For a history nerd like me, the opportunity to stay in a restored, historic hotel originally built in 1892 was a just awesome. It’s a testament to the community of Americus that this gem of a building was not just restored, but preserved as a fully operating hotel. If you love Georgia history, you will love the Windsor just as much as I did.
The dramatic brick building takes up a whole city block and has a tower and a turret. Parking is available (for free, naturally, this is a small town) in a small attached lot or on the street. Once you walk into the hotel, you’re greeted with a stunning three-​story atrium lobby with balconies with hand-​carved oak woodwork and heart pine and marble floors. There are only 53 guest rooms, so it’s not a big hotel, but big enough to offer a full service restaurant and the only bar in Americus. The service we received upon check-​in was fantastic, and I loved that they called our room shortly thereafter to make sure everything was to our liking.
Some people might find the period-​style guest rooms dated or stuffy, but I loved that they were all unique and historic, and certainly unlike any Best Western I’ve ever stayed in. If floral bed spreads, Georgia themed artwork, and hand-​turned headboards aren’t your thing, you’ll still probably appreciate the mini-​fridge in ever room, modern heating and air conditioning, Bath & Bodyworks toiletries. and the flat screen TVs. I found the beds very comfortable and got a great night’s sleep.
Keep in mind though, this is a historic building. There are no closets in the rooms (though armoires are provided), the elevators are a bit slow, the walls are thin, the floors creak like crazy, and there were plenty of unexplained noises (though those might have been from one of the residents ghosts!). I didn’t mind any of these things, but the noises kept my light-​sleeper of a friend up, so bring ear plugs or plan appropriately.
Sadly, I don’t find myself in South Georgia that much anymore, but when I do again, the Windsor is a spot I’ll seek out.

Yo, this place is haunted and awesome. Old building with great architecture, friendly and helpful staff, lots of history. I dare you to go exploring late at night all the nooks and crannies of this hotel. Unforgettable. Also there is Floyd’s on the 2^nd floor for all your other late night shenanigans.
Tips: if you hear the ABCs/​Twinkle Twinkle Little Star/​Baa Baa Black Sheep songs late at night through your hotel door, you’ve met one of the ghosts! Also there are creepy hallways straight out of The Shining (w/​o twins).
Downside: because the rooms are so old, they aren’t exactly designed for our modern conveniences, ie televisions, so some of them are in weird places in the room. But all the rooms have fridges.
Book a room on the 3^rd floor for sure. Have fun, freak yourself out, and enjoy some historic Americus. (Which brings me to another downside of Americus. There isn’t TONS to do in the town proper unless you’re visiting in the greater area Prez Carter stuff and Andersonville, etc. Just FYI, but maybe I’m just ignorant. Awesome hotel though and a must if you’re anywhere nearby.)

Plan ahead. Waited over an hour after we placed our order before dinner arrived… and we were one of only two tables on a Tuesday night. Scallop appetizer, stone cold. Was told they ‘couldn’t do anything more about it except to take it off the check’. Done. The check was the next problem, computer issues prevented our server from giving us our check. Mgr called who also stupefied. Really? My iPhone adds great, just tell us the local tax rate. Slow, cold and unable to present a check. Pass.

This is a nice step back in history. It is indeed a Grand Hotel with french lights and marble floors in the lobby. There is an elegance here that is hard to find in most cities. The only drawback is that it is hard to cool the rooms consistantly. I would definitely stay there again though. It is a must stay hotel at least once in your life even if it is for a single night. Very friendly staff as well!!!

Great, stately grand hotel. A historic setting which has been carefully restored to be a comfortable hotel with modern conveniences such as wi-​fi, flat screen tvs, fitness center all within the character of the original hotel.
A good value for an out-​of-​the-​box hotel experience. I’d certainly stay here again!

We stayed here in early September for a night to conduct some business in Americus. The hotel has been redone recently and you definitely get a 1920’s ambiance from the place. We arrived early evening after dinner and found on street parking right at the front door. Check in was smooth and easy with a courteous front desk staff.
I had two rooms next door but not connecting. I would have liked connecting but oh well. Our rooms were large with very high ceilings. The floor was quiet although I think there were some other people on it. That evening we spent quite a while on the balcony at the front of the hotel having some refreshments and enjoying a wonderful evening. The next morning the breakfast in the main dining room was excellent with LOTS of space between the tables so you don’t feel like you are sitting with strangers.
Overall this hotel was an excellent experience and we will stay there again when we return to Americus.
One last thing, the hotel is supposedly haunted. When we arrived the air conditioning in our room (parents) was very cold so we turned it off. We then left for a while and when we came back it was on. As far as we could tell no one had gone into our room. So if you are afraid of things like that find a nice Holiday Inn.
If you want a nice hotel at a very reasonable price this is it.

We stayed here the evening before driving to Plains to see Jimmy Carter teach Sunday School. I must admit that we were pleasantly surprised by the stately appearance of this hotel, located in the historic downtown of Americus. Our stay coincided with the week before Christmas and the entire hotel was decorated for the holiday. The hotel itself (exterior and lobby) were quite lovely and made even more so with the Christmas décor. The service of a bellman would have been nice when we were attempting to open their heavy doors with our arms full of luggage. Especially at a hotel that boasts a spa and not one but two restaurants. But c’est la vie. Despite the fact that the hotel had been remodeled and updated in the recent past, this really didn’t seem to carry into the rooms (faded bedspreads and an ancient television set). But for the reasonable rate, who were we to have issue with the lackluster rooms. Although the Gilchrist & Soames bath products were a nice touch. Our one major issue, aside from the fact that the vending machine was about as far away from our room as possible, was that the heat in our room didn’t seem to work. At first we thought that the room might just take a while to heat up due to the high ceilings. It was after we were showered and all settled in our beds that we realized it was never going to actually warm up. We went to bed without raising the issue about lack of heat. In the morning we helped ourselves to a breakfast buffet of the usual fare. During warm weather it would have been nice to have sat out on the deck to consume our coffe and waffles. At check out we mentioned the fact that we were freezing all night and the front desk clerk told us to take up the issue with the owner and presented us with his business card. So that was that.
