Daily Tribune

When I come back to Ames to visit Mom and Dad, there are always newspapers in the house and plenty of them. This list includes the NY Times, WSJ, Des Moines Register (and Juice), Estherville Daily News (for the home town obituaries), and of course the Ames Daily Tribune.
Newspaper readership and associated journalist excellence has been on the decline and it shows in the shrinking size of the papers, the increasing use of wire stories, and the higher cover prices. Maybe the ipad with paid content will help as originally offering their online content for free probably wasn’t a smart business decision. And even with free content on the Internet, somebody needs to do investigative journalism and help distinguish fact from fantasy. In the meantime, Internet «news» is often garbage and community papers with a proud heritage like the Ames Tribune continue to slide into oblivion.
