Derek Lauder, Amherst Native became a Certified, Bonded locksmith in 1987 after Graduating at the Door Hardware Institute and Foley Belsaw. He is a current member of Associated Locksmiths Of America (ALOA). Amherst Lockworks was Est.1990 in Amherst, Ma. By Derek and soon became a major Locksmith in the western Ma. area servicing Residential commercial customers with quality service. We still hold many Customers from the beginning and enjoy seeing them call us back from 10 – 15 and 20 years ago to install additional locks to there homes and Businesses

Amherst Native, Derek Lauder grew up youngest of three, Parents were in Banking and Office management at the University. Growing up in a mainly Liberal arts style School system along side future famous people as Actress Uma Thurman and Comedian Josh Wolf found Amherst Entertaining and a good Learning School but Found the Wood working and Auto shop more enticing than the arts. After Graduation, Derek learned the locksmith trade through a couple of Locksmith courses and some hands on experience. Locksmithing is a trade and you become better with time and it cannot be done primarily on paper. Tricks of the trade are needed and You must experience the challenges of it to become a seasoned expert. After opening his shop, Derek began marketing his business to Commercial customers through mailers and Residential customers through the yellow pages. Bus. at the beginning was very good as the recession of the late 80s and early 90s brought out business closings and Burglaries
