Dick’s Sporting Goods

For a sports store with so much inventory, it is hard to find exactly what you want. Or at least, this was my experience. I could not locate a pair of running pants I liked, nor a sweatshirt, nor a t shirt. I guess it is my tastes, but hey — it’s my review too. DSG needs to focus more on providing quality products than providing a lot of products. Guess that is why these stores never seem busy.

There are too many Dicks in Buffalo. We even have «Dick Road» named after all the Dicks, perhaps. What really sucks is when Dicks puts an entire food court and carousel in a lovely little underrated mall, out of business.
I have been to this Dick’s probably 20 times. As an avid sports player, and living so close to this one for years (in Amherst), this was always my go-​to spot for equipment. They had higher prices than other stores, even than other Dick’s, and they had iffy service too.
This particular location seems to have higher prices than the one on Transit, and «less stuff.» Also the employees here have never been particularly nice to me or willing to help. However I’ve found a few good things here over the years so I’ll give it a 2 instead of a 1. But as a soccer player, I wish they had a better and cheaper selection of soccer stuff. Embarrassingly, Walmart is better for soccer stuff.

Meh, it’s an A-​OK store. I came in here to get a FitBit. I go to Dick’s for items I just can’t find elsewhere. I don’t really come here for sporting clothes or much of anything and anytime I need to venture in here, I do so cautiously. I just find the entire chain to be a little overpriced, but the FitBit was sold at retail value and is pretty much the same price everywhere (and some other stores didn’t have it).
Staff here was generally helpful, pointed me in the right direction, but I ended up waiting for a while at check out because the cash register was having some problems. Can’t blame them for that though.
Apparently they overtook the food court at the Boulevard Mall. Drat! Unilocaler Fox E introduced me to an awesome souvlaki place in the mall food court, which now is no longer.
Tldr; Dick’s is Dick’s.

I have never thought much about Dicks Sporting Goods, just because we’d had a few «eh» experiences. No wows. It had been quite a few years since we’d been here, but we were looking for toddler ice skates for our 4 year old and thought we’d check out what they had in stock.
The building is nice, lots of stock for all sports plus a ton of clothing, but we couldn’t really find the right skates. We asked a guy who was stocking in the area by us but he wasn’t terribly helpful. Finally, after wandering throughout the whole store, we asked customer service. She called up our hero, Joel, who made our experience so great!
Instead of just pointing us in the direction of the little skates, he led us right to them, grabbed a few sizes and took us to an are where our son could sit and try them on. Joel completely laced four skates total as he fitted them on our son and kept him engaged throughout the whole process. He was a joy to talk to and was so good with our kids (we brought our two-​year-​old along as well). Our son was so comfortable with the process and sometimes he’s very hesitant in situations like that. Joel had everyone at ease and he was certainly knowledgeable about the subject. He even told us what kind of skate our son would graduate to when he grows out of these.
If it wasn’t for him, we honestly would have walked out with no skates (having never found them) and no better feeling about the place than we had before. Because of the experience Joel gave us, we will definitely come back for gear in the future.

I had one of the worst customer service experiences of my life here! I was actually in shock. i will never return to this store.
In short, I was greeted at the door by an employee who could not answer my «where is» question and made no effort to find the answer. I milled around until I found another employee who told me it was «next to the hunting stuff.» Not helpful, but at least put me in the right quadrant of the store.
I find what I’m looking for: 2 pop up canopies, 2 boxes of weights for them, and a wind flap. The canopies don’t fit in the carts, so I have one in the cart leaning on me, and one being dragged behind me, with the 2 boxes also being balanced delicately in the cart. I start trying to make my way through the store, painfully slowly and with great awkwardness, taking tiny steps and balancing all the way. (Yes, I’m that person who doesn’t like to take 2 trips to bring the groceries in.)
I get to the first employee — the answerless greeter. He watches me struggle with a blank look on his face. Then I bump into a display, which moves it completely out of place. Employee #2 watches this, then turns away. Too bad, I’m not putting it back, because at this point I’m super aggravated NO ONE is offering to help me purchase $ 300 worth of merchandise.
This is the worst part — I get close to the register and see a manager. Finally!, I think, someone that will know enough to help me! I should be so lucky. At this point I actually DROP something gigantic on me and he continues to have a very casual conversation with another employee with his arms crossed. Amazing.
To top it off, when I get to the register I point out that one of the boxes of weights is missing 2 weights: blank stare. Do you have anymore? «Did you see anymore?» is his response. YES, I saw them but felt like struggling on my 10 minute walk up here just to walk back and get more. Sigh.
and THAT’S the «in short» version! Will never shop this Dick’s ever again!

Expensive. Overall poor customer service. But they have a monopoly (at least in this area) for a lot of things, so you have no other choice. :(

So, I keep racking up the points on my Dicks Sporting Goods card and I never redeemed them… turns out… you should. I finally did and they mailed me a $ 10 gift certificate. Whoot Whoot… new sneaks, look out!
