Jean Lukens’ private practice has been located in Amherst, MA for over 30 years. It was founded with her husband, Jeffrey Lukens PhD, as Amherst Psychotherapy Associates. Jean’s approach is increasingly focused on the body-mind connection through techniques such as neurofeedback, Somatic Experiencing and mindfulness practices. Over the years she has served hundreds of children, families and individuals in the greater Amherst area, many of whom keep in touch with her over the years as life presents them with further challenges.

Jean Lukens, MSW, was trained at the Smith College School for Social Work in psychodynamic theory and practice. She was the first social worker at the psychoanalytic Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, MA where she established social work at the Center. Jean then began working in outpatient community mental health, which she continues to this day. Jean honed her diagnostic and treatment skills at The Three Rivers Program while maintaining her private practice. Jean has supervised graduate interns for Boston University, Smith College, and the University of Connecticut School of Social Work at the Masters level in psychodynamic psychotherapy. She served as a consultant to local elementary schools through the Hampshire Educational Collaborative.
Outside of work, Jean is an outdoors enthusiast and an equestrian. She has been a licensed riding instructor and an amateur horse trainer, and enjoys biking, sea kayaking, and camping with her horses.
