Purple Gables Bed & Breakfast

I have stayed at over 15 different B & B’s. Something as different as B & B’s in trees, yurts, safari (with wild animals around) style, etc. This B & B was certainly one of the top which I have stayed in. Everything was perfect from A to Z. The accomodations were beautiful, simple yet elegant. Our stay was calm and very relaxing. Lynda, the innkeeper, could not have been nicer or more accomodating. She’s a real gem of an innkeeper — and not to mention the absolute most top notch breakfasts EVER created! Purple Gables is a place that I would absolutely recommend to anyone — the best!

My review is only for the reservation process, and for Lynda, the innkeeper. I made my reservation 4 months before the needed weekend (alumni weekend). I reviewed cancellation policies on their website, and noted that the only policy they had listed was that I needed to give them two weeks notice. No problem there.
I decided to change my reservation from 2 nights to 1, due to financial reasons, and Lynda told me I couldn’t do it. That there was a 2 night minimum for ‘event weekends’. No where online did I read this. To top it off, she gave me a deadline of that night to get back to her, or else she’d give my room away. I didn’t appreciate being put on such a restrictive timeline, for a rule that she just decided to make up to make more money.
I ended up having to cancel the whole thing, which ruined my plans as there were no other hotels available. I feel as though Lynda should have been more accommodating to us, seeing that I had no idea there was such a ‘rule’. 1 star for awful service.

My fiancée and I are atypical B&Bers; we are private people who generally shy from the social interactivity connoted by B&B life. However, the warmth, consideration, and general excellence of Purple Gables, a one-​room «inn» in Amherst, has made us reconsider our family-​run hotel standards. Brian and Linda are lovely hosts, who preside over a small paradise annexed, by a door, to their home. Purple Gables is a very large one bedroom suite with a large bathroom, WiFi, cable, a fridge, AC, and hundreds of other «purple» details that made us feel a) at home, b) wanting for nothing, and c) simply, happy.
Breakfast is huge, great, timed and made to order.
The fridge is stocked with water, snacks, etc.
The room and its accompanying spirit convey light, family, cleanliness, and goodness.
The price is right: sub $ 200.
We were in walking distance to Amherst, next door to UMASS, and a doorway away from two porches/​backyards, where flowers and grills and clean air prevailed.
One caveat to those who wish to sleep-​in: bring sleeping masks, the light comes early and strong.
I recommend the Purple Gables wholeheartedly and expect to reunite with the «Gabe» in the near and distant future.
(N.B. For those home owners who wish to transform their spare room into a guest accommodation, stay here and go to school!)

This is a beautiful little house set perfectly in between the popular UMass campus and the cute little town of Amherst. It’s run by a wonderfully friendly woman who provides a really good quality of service, food and home-​like atmosphere.
My visit there was really comfortable and the food was excellent! The suite had a really nice private bathroom, a little closet, a study and even a little breakfast nook! WOW! The bed in the suite was super comfortable, I fell right asleep, and I generally have trouble sleeping in any bed but my very own.
We got our choice of breakfast as well as many snacks, drinks and several little goodies left in our room for us like the gourmet almonds I couldn’t keep my hands off of!
The only thing is, you should probably call early because the Innkeeper told us that it gets pretty booked up around the summer…
