I thought I’d share my three experiences with the California Dental Group.
First visit was for an emergency root canal. I had just changed jobs and this was the only member of my dental plan than had an endodontist in the office that day. I ended up paying cash as I wasn’t coming up as being covered in their system. I specifically requested that they submit my claim once the insurance details were worked out.
Second visit was for the crown to replace the temporary filling after the root canal. I was told that my insurance plan did not cover the crown. I inquired if they had resubmitted my claim from the first visit and was told that my insurance plan did not cover the endodontist. After a short exam I was told I also need some other work due to tooth brush abrasion (TBA), special post cleaning antibiotic treatment, and a night guard.
Back home I checked out my coverage and find that the plan did cover the endodontist and did cover the crown. I called my insurance provider and found that my first claim was never submitted. In short, I had been overcharged by California Dental Group for more that $ 2,000. I called their office 3 times to talk to the billing dept. and each time was told that they would call me back which they never did. Eventually called my insurance carrier; they did a review and agreed with me 100% and told California Dental Group to refund me all the overcharges. Went to pickup the check and was told by the billing office that they were only refunding part of the overcharges. After another go round with the insurance provider California Dental did refund all the overcharges.
My third visit was for a cleaning and was told I need a filling replaced. I had them do this and after checking with my insurance plan found that I had been over changed again. Still working with my insurance company to sort this out. Also told I need some other work due to tooth brush abrasion (TBA), a different and special post cleaning antibiotic treatment, and a night guard.
In short, consistent pattern of over billing, not submitting claims, always an up-​sell, and an unresponsive billing department.

I was happy with the front office and the dentist. I explained to the office that I didn’t want any up charge .I went there with my son and everything was going good and then here came the sales lady to tell me about my benefits and charges for my son and
I told her I would go home and get a game plan together, and then she informed me that it was going to be 70.00 for my sons cleaning and Informed her my cleanings are free with my benefits and she said my son agreed to the charge (he is 20) but he did say to discuss the work and money with my dad to the sales person. the cleaning got done before my approval
I told her I was very upset about the up charge and she said she would talk to her manager. the manager wouldn’t discount or wave the charge. I told them I would not come back if they charged me the up charge of 70.00 they didn’t care. I normally dont post things like this but I feel they ripped me off BEWARE !!! I will never go back !!!

Working in insurance I deal with phone calls everyday about complaints on dentists overcharging. This was our first appointment here with our new insurance and I was worried how it would go. I had my benefit copay schedule in my purse in case I needed to argue my payment. What a relief to finally find an honest business. My daughter needed a filling and an extraction of a baby tooth. The copays quoted were exactly what they were on my benefits. No up selling. No over charging. So nice for a change! Not to mention everyone in the office is so nice, warm, and friendly. They allow you to complete all your dental forms and medical history online so when you get to the office everything is done and you only need to provide signatures. Awesome experience. I’m so happy to have found a reliable, honest, professional office. Kudos to them!

I wasted my time with my children here. After going over everything over the phone, filling out all their paperwork online, spending over 45 minutes trying to sort out their paperwork, they finally show us in. I informed them from the very beginning I did not have our insurance card but I had the plan and info. Long story short, after they took x-​rays, they told me they could not have the dentist examine my kids because I did not have the insurance card. Hmmmm, so, a dentist was fine with prescribing x-​rays on two children she has never seen or examined but she is not okay with reveiweing the x-​rays or physically examining their oral cavity because their mother doesn’t have the insurance card? The prescription of x-​rays without having examined a patient and then refusing to see the patient must be against the practice act.

Warning – Warning – Warning
Try avoiding this dentist office by any means necessary! Only reason I’m writing this review is to make people aware of the VERY POOR QUALITY of Service this dentist office offers. I’m going to explain my 1^st visit here, which was a little over a week ago. The place opens at 9am and I had an appointment for 11:00 am. I got there at 10:52 am thinking it’ll be good to arrive a little early but I was wrong. It took the receptionist 13 or so minutes for her to finally acknowledge the fact that I was there, in fact 3 other clients walked in between the time I arrived and the time the receptionist walked to the front. Thing is from the lobby you can look back into the office plus you can hear conversations… Well the reason they had everyone waiting outside and not being attended, was because they were talking about each other’s Hair Cuts and what they had worn over the weekend. After I finally receive some service, we now had everyone running around trying to catch up with the clients present. I should have known this place was NO GOOD. Before I was taken back to FINALLY get started, somewhere around 11:30, 2 of the 3 other clients had billing issues with the office. On back-​to-​back occasions, the clients were told that they simply were not called back the day before about these billing issues just because the receptionist had forgotten to relay the message. The other client remaining, a little old lady was told to go home because her appointment had been canceled… but no one took the time to notify her the previous day, SURPRISE-​SURPRISE! The dentist didn’t get to me until 12:40, an hour and 40 minutes after my scheduled appointment. When she did see me, it only took her 3 or 4 minutes to determine I needed over $ 6,000 worth of worked performed on me. I responded by letting her know that I was only here for a basic cleaning and that if I was going to have more work done it would not be today, especially since I had already been there about 2 hours. They then sent over the «Pretty Girl» of the office to see if maybe she could get me to agree on more work that day. The funny thing was that she couldn’t properly explain the procedures; she just kept rambling on about what my insurance would cover and what they expected from me to pay. I then, once again, went ahead an explained to her that I was just here for a cleaning. So when she walked away they decided to send their «X-​Ray Technician» and try to «SELL» me on these procedures. It felt like a USED CAR LOT!!! The worst was there VERY DIRTY utensils that they used when the dentist checked my mouth, MOST DISGUSTING TOOLS I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!! They REUSE their tools there! I took pictures for proof of the Dirty Tools and eventually walked out without any work done. JUST COULDN’T TRUST THEM BY THEN.

I seriously love this dental office… no bs… hidden charges… everything is up front and work is done to perfection… I have probably been to 3 dentists in a year and they all have been scam artists or rip off artists… basically telling me what my insurance will pay for… before even looking at my teeth… or calling and calling me to set up appointments even after I just went in for a check up and cleaning 2 weeks prior… This office is great… they give you a card… they don’t harass you and are willing to work with your work schedule… The boss lady does not try to pressure you for extra service… tells you what things cost… what you are liable for… and what you would like to do…

I was in the look for a new dentist when I saw California Dental Group in a local coupon magazine and I thought I would give them a shot. I am glad I did. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They do what ever they can to make you feel calm at the dentist which can be a not so calming environment. I will definetly be recommending California Dental Group to my family and friends!

The dentist is never a place I like to go. I went to this dental office and had a great experience. From the warm welcoming of the receptionist to the calming pain free dental work this place was on point. I would highly recommend this dental office to friends and family.
