Compass Books & Cafe

I liked it because it was open at 7:00 in the morning and they had coffee.

This bookstore slash coffee shop was pretty neat. You walk by this place and it will draw you in. Fairly good book selection, postcards and lots of other neat stuff.
And yes you can have a latte’, croissant or even a sandwich too!
My daughter didn’t come out empty handed and had a big smile…

forget the books, im here for the drinks
i had forgotten a jacket on a cold night so i came here to get a warm drink to warm myself up. i ordered a hot apple cider drink for myself and an iced caramel macchiato for someone else. my apple cider kept me warmed and tasted oh so yummy. it was not too sweet, which i loved. i tried the caramel macchiato and it was alright. it was not as good as starbucks. it lacked coffee and was not sweet enough. tasted more like coffee flavored milk.
for two large drinks, our total was $ 10. thats kinda steep for just drinks. the wait was long and the cashier girl (name ester) was not so friendly. since the apple cider was delicious and was cheaper compared to the other drinks. i would come back and recommend that.

This place is barely a eatery since they were given a corner of a bookstore to sell their coffees and meal items. The food and drinks are crazy overpriced but it is expected because of its location. So don’t expect any deals here. The quality of product is good everything I have ever got is fresh and taste pretty good. Most of the sandwiches there are pretty dry so make sure you grab enough condiments to flavor and moisten your meal. The salads are ok because it isn’t anything to drive for or even go out of your way to go get. I guess this is a good spot to go get a coffee and some snacks but so is your local gas station so I will just leave it at that. I do go here often for snacks cause I work nearby but that’s about it.

There are good and bad things about Compass. The store and café are small and intimate which is a nice contrast to the craziness of Downtown Disney. However, you should only expect some help if you’re buying something. The selection’s decent for such a small store with it being more than just books. All that said, Compass is just decent and an afterthought compared to other bookstores and other places at Downtown Disney.

Sad to say not brilliant, charged for syrup in my drink but didn’t actually get any. Hopefully this was just today’s staff. More expensive that Barnes and Noble Café and Starbucks and they got the order wrong :(

Fresh iced coffee and 2 pack Krispy Kreme donuts and milk for the kiddos. Easy peasy on the way to the park or for an afternoon pick me up. Pretty quiet and nice selection of magazines and books.

This quaint (and rather small) bookstore located close (this is relative to where I came in, by the ESPN Zone) to the entrance of Downtown Disney.
Books and magazines and other cool and good stuff in here. There’s a café as you move in further into and away from the publication section. Though I didn’t avail of the café, I should take a closer look next time.
Though everything in the book section look like they’re full priced, this is a refuge to anyone who is overwhelmed by Downtown Disney. It’s like a cool glass of water when all you have to drink are bottles and bottles and bottles of Gatorade, y’all feel me?
PS. I reserve the right to revise this when I taste what the café has to offer. Please keep that in mind. Okay, m’luv?

Compass Books looked a lot bigger from the outside but there are still a lot of fun books, postcards, etc inside. Maybe since they had a smaller selection, I found it easier to spot unusual books that looked fun to read.
The café was nothing special. Overpriced like the rest of downtown disney. And they only offer two sizes of coffee, so the smallest is like a medium anywhere else. It probably would have been fine but I didn’t need or want that much caffeine in the afternoon, and since there is only one barista, service was a bit slow and there weren’t any tables to sit at.

A cute little bookstore with a quaint coffee shop inside. This is by far the smallest bookstore I’ve ever been in. You won’t find an expansive selection of books from here but there are a lot of cute novelty items that you might not find in other bookstores.
Coffee here is tasty, might even be my beloved LaVezza coffee. Nice barristas. Price is higher than a mom-​and-​pop shop but about par with Starbucks.

Compass is a tiny bookstore located next to AMC with a small variety of subjects, including Disney-​based material. Other bookstore related items such as calendars, greeting cards, novelty items, etc. can also be purchased. The café serves dark roast coffee, hot cocoa, lattes, mochas, teas, espressos, sandwiches, krispy kreme donuts, fruit medleys, fruit parfaits, etc.

Pricey! But it’s pretty much like any other coffee spot they just take advantage if their location.

Potentially the slowest and worst coffee ever, but when you have no other options it’ll do. Reluctantly.

NOT JUST A BOOK STORE
They do have a great selection of books and magazines, but even reading a book… one tends to get hungry…
Ahhh Ha… thats where they have salads and sandwich’s premade.
Fantastic I’d say (good thinking Compass Books & Café management) you get hungry customers to pay more at your store.
Yes, they do run pretty pricey compared to starbucks or else were, but you expect to pay that much… since their in DOWNTOWN DISNEY! They have a pricey rent to pay; staying open here. LOL!
Overall, the books/​magazine selection is good, foods decent… but well worth if wanting to get away from it all.

It’s criminal that you can’t get a parking validation here.
Aside from the parking validation problem, I like the fact that this place isn’t TOTALLY owned by Disney. You can find regular books that aren’t just rated G. The coffee is pretty good, too. If you think it’s a little expensive, don’t forget that you’re in the middle of a giant tourist trap.

not the best selection of books at all! if your looking for an entire section of nothing but books about disney this is the place for you. if you like harry potter and fantasy books you’ll love this place. if you like to pay full price for mediocre books compass is up you alley.
being the only bookstore in downtown disney you would think this would be the ultimate place for books. i found this quite the opposite and found they concentrate more on being a coffee shop than anything else. i love cookbooks and i was very disappointed in their selection. i’m not even sure if i can really call it a selection. they had one top shelf of cookbooks with only about 10 different titles if that.
compass books really makes me proud to be a huge fan of watching tv for sure!

This bookstore looks a lot bigger from the outside. There are specific sections for children’s books and fiction, but a lot of the books offered focus on Southern California travel, personalities and athletes. I found a nice autobiography-​type book about one of my favorite X Games athletes Travis Pastrana that was featured in the sports section. There are a significant number of books about Disneyland covering history, art and travel. The attached café sells coffees and beverages, sandwiches and dessert cakes/​pastries. No indoor seating, but there are a few tables with chairs along the front of the store.

Walked in here just out of curiosity and then said to hubby «doesn’t this look like a Books Inc» (which are/​were quite popular in the Bay Area although I’d never seen one here before). Hubby mentioned that this was or at least used to be Books Inc… oh well.
I just like the feel of this bookstore. Although it is small, it feels so much more intimate than Barnes & Noble or Borders. I’ve always been partial to the more independent types of bookstores so maybe that’s why I like Compass Books.
We got something to drink from the little adjoining café and sat outside. It was really quite nice. Too bad they didn’t have a bathroom inside the bookstore/​café.

This is where I would tell people to meet me when signing people into the park. Here if they were late which was 90% of the time I could at least get a cup of joe and browse through the books.
The do not have a large selection of books and they do have a lot of books about Disneyland and Walt Disney but they do have all of the new releases.
My son would often come to work with me and hang out for hours looking at his beloved animé and the workers never gave him a hard time.
The café part of the bookstore has coffee, teas and some food including sandwiches.

OKAY, I GET IT. I AM GIVING THIS MINISCULE BOOKSTORE FOUR STARS, EVEN THOUGH THEY BARELY HAVE ANY BOOKS. But hear me out, okay?
Compass Books stocks like, 50 different books pertaining to Disney/​Disneyland, which is amazing because Disney owns my life and I need to read as much Disney literature as humanly possible. This calls for a celebration! Whooooo!!!
Another reason that I enjoy this stupid little bookstore– when I’m in Anaheim, after leaving Disneyland at 11 PM, I’m bored. I’m not a local, and I don’t know of «hip» things to do, so I usually end up heading back to my shitty motel to lounge around until I’m tired. How is this relevant? Because when I’m curled up on my lumpy motel bed, I want something to read, dammit. I need a freakin’ book or magazine or SOMETHING, because television is boring and lame. Thanks to Compass Books, I ALWAYS have something to read.
Oh yeah, they also have a weird… umm… little thing set up outside where they sell magazines and newspapers. And man oh man, do I love me some magazines!
