Over the years, the stucco on our front yard planter started chipping off as a result from the gardener’s neglect with the grass trimmers/​mowers. Eventually, the sight of the chipped and worn out stucco on our front yard planter was unbearable, so we decided the best solution was to replace the stucco with stone. We called several handyman/​masonry professionals and we finally decided to have Darwin Mc Carty and Bruce help with our planter project. They were the right professionals for our project because of their reasonable price, years of experience in masonry/​stucco repair, had the required tools/​equipment, attention to detail, and reliability.
Darwin and Bruce showed up on time (even though there were a few road blocked off due to the 5k event) and worked 6 to 8 hours as agreed. They were very patient and understanding even when we had a last minute change on the color of the wall cap stone. They even gave us some good and honest recommendation on the color and size of the stone. Unfortunately, the color that we initially wanted was not in stock and we had to choose a different color. Even though it was not part of their work, we really appreciate that they offered to call other locations in the area to check if they had in stock. This shows that they genuinely care about our project and their customers. We eventually decided on another color stone, purchased it, and an hour later the planter was finally finished.
When we first saw the new planter it looked amazing and we were very happy with the transformation. After the project was completed, they explained to us in detail of their work and also gave us advice on how to maintain the stones. Several aesthetic details that include the amount of overhang of the cap stone and the short gap between the wall cap and wall stone, etc. really gave us a new perspective how and why the stones were stacked affected the focal point of the planter. This really proves they were very detailed with their work and extensive knowledge through years of experience with this stucco/​masonry.
Overall, Darwin and Bruce were very professional and finished the project on time with great attention to details. We are very happy with our new and improved planter and we would definitely recommend them to our friends/​family as well as hire them for future projects.

Darwin is a great guy to call when you need someone reliable and honest. He worked on numerous things on my rental home and was always on time. He was easy to work with and he always found ways to make my budget last. Most importantly, Darwin has all the tools and is able to do a professional job. With all this, he also charges a reasonable rate. I will be calling him for years and years to come!

Darwin showed up on time and worked a full 6 to 10 hours, as we agreed. I have had him work a few days over the past 6 months. I am living in the Long Beach area. He will travel if there is enough work to make it worth the drive. Darwin is the best handyman I have ever worked with. He is fast and talented. I had a long list of large and small jobs. We checked things off very fast. He is open to my ideas and has many good ideas of his own. He works well with women. I trust him with power tools and in my home. He is honest and calming to be around.
Darwin assisted me with repairing furniture; replacing drawer bottoms. He sanded a nightstand, again in no time. He hung a cabinet in minutes. He used a power planer on my dresser drawers and it was fast and came out perfect and the drawers close easily now. He made all my windows and cabinet drawers open easily with a chisel and bees wax. I trust him to work on find furniture, as well as, my house.
He also repaired locks, electrical, sprinklers, a toilet and glass. Hung curtains, brackets, shelves, art, and hooks, all spaced well and level. He installed an air conditioner, window fans, trim, and molding. He covered all the foundation vents with screens to keep pests out. He cleaned the rain gutters, which I forgot about. He spread iron and bark. My landlord has a gardener but Darwin did the extra jobs in the garden fast, removing, transplanting and trimming a few plants. I asked him to look at the screen door to see if anything could be done to make it look better. He took it off flattened it, and re-​installed it, and it looks great.
Please be respectful and treat him right he deserves the same treatment he will give you. I made sure I told him what jobs I wanted to do in advance so he would know what tools would be needed. I provided all the materials. He is open to picking up materials but I don’t think it is the best use of his time and your money.
He will come to your house to check out the jobs in advance, if needed. You pay him and hourly rate, due at the end of each day worked. I found that he is worth every dime. His price is fair.
