Katella Animal Clinic

I use to take my dogs to this clinic, however now that I have a new puppy I will NEVER take my puppy to this clinic. The doctors are only after money, however the front staff can be pleasant at times. Once you are seen by the doctor, they only spend a few minutes for consultation. It is hard to find a vet that actually cares about the animal, instead of how much money they can get from a customer/​client. I paid $ 175 for a doc’s visit and medication that turned out to be benadryl! I could have paid $ 6 for benadryl had they really cared about the animals well-​being as well as keeping a customer. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE.

I am honestly shocked by all the negative reviews ! I have been coming to Katella Animal Clinic for years now. They are 1 st vet group that helped me with a pit bull that I rescued when every other vet clinic told me no. They are a great partner helping rescues with dog & cats that need care. I’ve had great experiences with them and their staff. Eva, Amy and Stephanie has always been most helpful. They reach out to rescues when there is an abandoned animal left at clinic or owner surrender. They are pro-​life.
5 stars — Dr. Saleeb and team — Eva, Amy or Stephanie are all fantastic.

This place is horrible. So I have requested my dogs medical record and they told me that it would take up to 48 hours for the request, thank you lord my dogs are fine, but what if they in the condition and they needed their medical record for the hospital or something. Anyways, I call back 48 hours later and told them I still haven’t received my dog record yet, they told me that the doctor hasn’t signed the paper. I got really mad, cause I knew they’re just making excuses. Sorry to say, but the doctor can’t be that busy to just to sign couple documents, it takes literally 1 minute to sign the paper so I can have my dog record. Also, this place the vets are not genuine and try to up-​sale unnecessary treatments for my dogs. I already found a better vet, but I feel like I should say something so people would know about this place.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS MURDEROUS CLINIC!!!
I use to take my dogs to this clinic many years ago and so when my dog got sick last month I took her there. The vet that I normally would see was not there so another vet saw my dog. I had already called ahead and told them that my dog was vomiting and needed immediate attention, they told me to bring her right in so I did. She was taken to the back and left there for 3 hours and nothing was done for her!!! Her health declined so bad while they had her in the back that when I finally got them to let me see her 3 hours later, she was stiff as a board with her head jerked back and moaning in agony AND I HAD NO IDEA THAT SHE WAS ALMOST DEAD! When they brought her out to me I burst into tears, she was unrecognizable! I couldn’t believe they left her suffering alone like that, she looked horrible– and they didn’t even notice her health declining!!! They had done nothing for her– no IV, no medicine NOTHING!!! I grabbed my dog and got the hell out of that place and took her to the vet ER where she had to be put to sleep!!! She had declined so bad in the time that they had her in the back left alone that it was too late!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR PET DEAD!!!

I would not recommend Katella to any pet owners. I had to wait for an hour because, even though the receptionist booked me an appointment for 2pm, the vets always take lunch 1−3pm. When I was in an exam room waiting, a dog was barking in the back kennels the entire time. Only the one receptionist was in the building so of course no one could go back to take care of the other animals.
Then the vet had no clue about how rats work when I specifically asked for a vet that knows about rat health issues. He asked if my rat had vomited. Rats are physically incapable of vomiting. Ever. He didn’t make any comment about upper respiratory infections, myco, porphyrin or any other terms specific to rat breathing issues. I even got prescribed a nasal spray for my rat. I’ve never had to do anything like that for respiratory problems in the past. The exam took all of 2 minutes before he rushed out the door. But not before he told me that I would be better off getting a tortoise because they live longer.
It felt like my pet and I were unimportant and I will never ever go here again.

We love this place! They have showed nothing but care and compassion for our rescue pup Django. I never get the feeling they’re trying to nickel and dime us and they’ve even cut his nails for free a few times. They’re good with follow up calls to check on Django after a procedure and are always very sweet to us! I was shocked to see the negative reviews. My boyfriend and I are very happy to take our dog here and feel his healthcare is in good hands. Five stars!

What I find most interesting about Unilocal is people will always put a BAD review when things don’t work out the way they should. Can you imagine all the GOOD reviews this place has had over the years? PLENTY!
Often people don’t bother if they are satisfied. I think it’s awesome when happy clients post a good review. The whiners carry on and on and on… so often they can’t be pleased.

They are a great partner helping rescues with dogs that need care. I’ve had great experiences with them and their staff!

Why did I not look them up in Unilocal before I went here?. So I took my dog asked them to give them every shot she needed to be up to date with all the shot records. I also asked for blood test etc. $ 400 later I never got an email with lab results, after complaint they called to say she was fine, her lab results came all good. Today a month later I need to board my dog and turns out she needs two more shots so I had to pay a fortune to have another vet to come to the kennel and give a shots because I have to catch a plane.

I would leave a detailed review but this place does not even deserve that. I have read each and every review before mine, it’s all true. These people are money hungry and don’t have a care in the world for your pets. I would give negative stars if I could.

On behalf of a rescue group, I just picked up a dog from Katella that was just neutered today and which I’ll foster for a few days. I’d seen the ratings here before I walked in so was expecting a pretty awful place but that’s not what I found when I was there. From what I could tell — the clinic is nice, clean and the staff is very caring about the animals, very kind and the dog seems great.

My review is about an experience that happened two years ago. It’s taken me this long to write about our experience at Katella Animal Clinic because of the hurt over our dog.
My husband, daughter and myself had to bring our family pet of 14 years to the Clinic to be put down. It was an extremely difficult decision to be made but our dog had arthritis and spine issues and was at the point of hardly moving or eating. We considered her a family member and everyone loved her very much. We didn’t want her to suffer any longer.
That dreaded day, we all wanted to be with her, hold her, while she fell into her final sleep so we went into the room with her. It was obvious that we were upset about what was going to take place in that room. A woman from the front desk pulled me aside and told me that if my husband, my daughter and I wanted to be in the room, we needed to pay $ 40.00 to «watch“our dog get the injection. That was on top of the $ 70.00 to put her down. The young woman apologized and said she didn’t agree with it, but that’s Dr. Saleeb’s policy. At that point I didn’t say anything to my family. I turned and looked at my family and how distraught they were and there was no way after looking at them that I was going to say never mind, let’s go home. I paid the $ 40.00.
After she was put down, they told us that we could stay a while with our dog. Later, we were asked if we wanted to have her cremated and save her ashes. We said yes and we’re charged $ 100.00 or a little over for that service.
I found out later that charging money so you can be with your pet in the final moments of life is not common practice. My husband was very upset when I finally told him what they charged us to be in the room. I will never go back to Katella Animal Clinic with any pet.

Run. Run far away from this place and never look back. They only want your money, nothing else matters to them.
My family and I found a pup a few months back. She didn’t have a collar or tag on her, so we just assumed she was abandoned (our mistake). We brought her in about a month after finding her and was about to pay for the Puppy Care Package, which would have included the preliminary shots, stool sample, microchip, and a discount on the spaying. The technician gave her a quick scan after I told her that we found the pup. The pup already has a microchip in her, but the technician was still trying to push me into purchasing the Puppy Package, emphasizing that it would cost a lot cheaper than if I were to pay for everything individually. First of all, red flag, red flag, red flag: they want my money! Secondly, why would I pay for shots if I would have to potentially return to pup to its original owner?
I declined on the Puppy Package and asked them to look into the microchip situation. I told them I would be back the following week if anything were to turn up. Called them a few days later to see where they were with the whole thing. I spoke to another tech who told me that they spoke to the owners, and the owners didn’t sound like they were interested in getting the dog back. She also told me that said owners are negligent pet owners based off of the clinic’s previous experiences with the family.
I brought the pup in again exactly seven days later to following up on the situation again. Before paying for anything, I asked the clinic to call the owners one last time to make sure that they didn’t want the dog back because I was not about to put down $ 300 if the dog wasn’t going to stay with us. The same lady that I spoke to over the phone went to the back office to «make the call,» only to emerge a few minutes later to let me know that no one answered.
I paid for the package, and the pup got her first round of vaccines. I went to the reception desk to further inquire about the microchip, and girls at the desk gave me a few numbers to call but didn’t specifically explain what each number was for until I pressed them for more information. Note: they gave me a number for A microchip company, not even the number to the CORRECT microchip company.
I finally got the company number to the microchip that was implanted in the pup. The rep said that they would have to reach out to the previous owners for their permission before transferring ownership. It turns out that the owners did in fact wanted their dog back. Hell, they even called the clinic and left a voicemail. WTF, Katella dudes?
I called the clinic back to explain that I would have to give them pup back and asked them to refund me for the remaining amount of the Puppy Package that wasn’t used. The person on the phone spewed out numbers at me about how each of the shots costs such and such, that the stool sample costs another amount, not to mention the check-​up fee. After all this, the person proceeded to tell me that it would take them up to two weeks to refund me my money because (insert lame excuse).
I spoke to a friend whom I forget is also a vet shortly after all this unfolded. She told me that in order to legally adopt out a pet, one would have to take it to a shelter, and the people at the shelter would have to contact the previous owners to give them an opportunity to reclaim their pet. If the previous owners didn’t do so after a certain number of days, the shelter would legally transfer the ownership to the new owner’s name. The people at the Katella clinic never told me this, not anything that was remotely as informative.
Times are tough. I get it, but don’t mess around with people’s heart strings and money like that. Don’t try to make a quick buck and screw up your karma. Karma can and will be a bitch when she decides to bite back. Right now, Karma is looking at everyone there who was involved in this whole situation with dagger eyes in the form of a rabid great dane.

I took my pet rat in for a tumor removal surgery (my husband and I have had rats for years and it’s common). He charged me an extremely high end of the spectrum and only removed «most» of the tumor. 4 months later it has grown back aggressively and is almost 4x the size it was before surgery. To top that off, they wanted me to come in and pay an exam fee ($ 45) to remove the stitches that I paid over $ 400 to have put in!!! Wtf?!?
We now take all of our pets to South Coast animal hospital, Dr Kumar is the greatest and truly loves and cares for the animals and it’s evident in her work.
So in conclusion, don’t go to this vet. They just want your money and they don’t care about anything else.

This place should be shut down. They are a total rip off all they want is your money. I took my yorkies here for a ear infection and vaccines. The vet poked my dogs ear with a qtip making him Unilocal.She could or ruptured his ear drum. They charged me 300 $ to flush his ears and to give him antibiotics. They did a fecal test and did not call me back with results time passed and I went into the clinic for another series of vaccines and I find out that my dog had giargia this whole time and nobody from the clinic bothered to call my dog could of died… total mal practice

I will never bring my dog here again. First time and last. He needed vaccinations and grooming, he’s a little Terrier mix who looks like Toto. The staff is short and not friendly, they looked at him like he was weird but then try to play it off when I was leaving him there. I had no problem paying $ 130 for the services as long as they do a good job. Dropped my dog off around 9 and still after 2 they haven’t touched him yet and would not even give me an estimate time when I called around 1:30, again, the girls short and rude… I’ve been to other Vets and this place… you just don’t feel they care about the animal. The guy who did the grooming complained to me that my dog was not easy to groom. So unprofessional!, even if that was the case you don’t tell the client that and he’s 9 lb little dog… I’m sure he could handle it. Don’t bring your pet here. They don’t care, they just want to charge money to those who don’t know better.

The Katella Animal Clinic will empty your bank account and max out credit cards.
I’ve only came here out of desperation before my last visit, and finally I’ve experienced the last straw, enough is enough. First started coming here when i got my cat (one year ago) and had far better experience here than i initially did at another animal clinic. I was happy the first time i came here, and thought okay this is convenient, close to home good first impression… awesome. Since then, i have had to come here several times, with two different animals. The Veterinarians seem, uneducated? At least they come off that way… especially the staff. Side note, the areas where they keep the animals is very shady and suspicious. Doesn’t seem like they keep animals who are sick, separate than from animals who are just staying overnight/​boarding/​grooming.
My cat recently had to make a visit in, and I needed to have a test done on his skin, as he looked like he had scabies or mites, maybe get a prescription depending if i could pick up something OTC. After Dr. Saleeb (hard to comprehend what he is saying) decided to run a skin test, the vet tech came in with an estimate. Office visit, an injection (why are they always recommending an injection? Are they actually doing one? In my opinion it’s an up sell on prescriptions, just saying… don’t do it) antibiotics, and the bill was already over 200 and i have yet to realize what exactly was going on with my cat. I had asked to remove the medications, and the vet tech said I needed to have a prescription. Long story short I ended up signing an AMA Form. FYI YOU DON’T HAVE TO BUY YOUR ANIMALS PRESCRITIONS FROM THEM. GET YOUR ANIMALS PRESCRITIONS ELSEWHERE.
The Dr. apparently said he will work with me, and not charge me a high price. And turns out he still charged me shit load of money after I did my research afterwards. 1−800− PetMeds is half the price, plus you don’t have to deal with the pressure of someone telling you have to pay for something you don’t want too.
If you want a cheap office visit, along with cheap meds go to the Humane Society instead, and save your time, money and animals from the Katella Animals Clinic.

I was told by an ER vet that my dog needs to have a primary DMV. My dog didn’t have one prior to visiting Katella Animal Clinic. I had only ever taken her to emergency vets a couple of times for concerns that my intuition were nagging me about (btw if you have a hunch trust it). I hadn’t checked the reviews on this place and I’m glad I didn’t because I would’ve been negatively influenced by them and gone elsewhere.
This place was great! The exam fee was music to my ears. The over all cost was in the expected range. It was more than the ER clinic and both visits consisted of 2 X-​rays and medication. The visit here cost more BUT the X-​rays were significantly better and my dog was prescribed 3 medications as opposed to the one medication she was prescribed at the ER clinic. So I’m sure if the ER clinic had X-​rays images that were as good as Katella Animal Clinic and had prescribed 3 medications also, the cost if services and treatment would be the same or probably higher at the ER clinic.
The reason for 5 stars is the staff. The doctors and the assistants were fantastic and Dr. Saleeb, my dogs new permanent PCDMV called my husband to follow up with our dog several times.
Thank you Katella Animal Clinic! I’ll be bringing in a thank you card and photo of my once again happy pup to add to the huge wall already covered with thank you cards and patient photos!!!

Took my cat in a few weeks ago because we thought she might have a tooth infection. Turns out she did and needed some antibiotics. However she was given multiple other drugs to take and had blood drawn for tests. We only gave her the antibiotics and she is fine, nothing else they gave us to give her was needed and she is perfectly healthy now. We paid $ 300+ for drugs and tests that were not needed. It’s a little upsetting but better safe than sorry I suppose…
On top of that we were supposed to get a callback on her blood tests after a few days. It’s now two weeks later and no contact attempts. I finally had to call and have them call me back later with the results.
Staff was pretty friendly to us though. The Vet didn’t seem to really care about our cat and after reading the many reviews about «it’s all about the money» to them… I can see why people feel that way.

I took my blue crown conure there to have her first check up, and honestly it was pretty sucky. Although check in was pretty quick, the vet wasn’t too sure of my questions on nutrition and just made me copies of bird nutrition from a textbook for me to figure out! And I paid for antibiotics that I didn’t even need because my bird sneezed a little bit.
The vet also took him to the back for I’m guessing further observation but he didn’t tell me exactly what he did back there with my bird.
