I hired Attorney Ecks for my dear friend who had gotten a citation from the District Attorney’s office for driving without a license and backing up in an unsafe manner! It sounded bad and we were quite concerned. Other attorneys told us a conviction might lead to deportation. I called a few attorneys and not only was Attorney Ecks the most reasonably priced, more importantly, he had the most reasonable strategy to approach these citations. He was also the only attorney I actually spoke with rather than some super-​likable, smooth talking assistant who answered the phone but wasn’t going to be in court. (They were essentially sales people).
The results were better then even expected: one citation was dismissed, the other reduced to a $ 25 dollar fine. Attorney Ecks was always very accessible, kind and comforting. He was forthcoming and realistic about possible outcomes and definitely did a great job.

I hired Doug after getting 2 speeding tickets around the same time (who knew the 710 was a 55mph zone!).
I got quotes from a few lawyers and his cost was the most reasonable, he also came recommended from a lawyer I spoke with.
He knows all these tricks that any regular person wouldn’t know about how to fight traffic tickets which came in very handy considering I would’ve probably just paid the ticket costs and got stuck with points on my license.
I told him all I wanted was to make sure there was no points on my record, I was able to take traffic school but obviously only once.
He went to 2 separate courts for me, allowing me to not miss any time at work (arraignment and court dates). He got one ticket down to a non point violation (exactly what I wanted) and the other was traffic school.
I got another speeding ticket 4 months later and I hired him again.
Once again I got off with no points thanks to Doug!
I would highly recommend him, his cost was very much worth it considering I didn’t miss any work time and the tickets he got me out of were pretty expensive.
I am now a believer in fighting traffic tickets… as long as Doug is my lawyer fighting them for me!

doug ecks is a jerk! his skills as an attorney are overruled by his lack of concern for his clients! he handled tickets for me, and every time i spoke with him his fees went up. i paid him in advance to help me, and he did go t court for me, but he refused to give me the information i needed to settle my cases. even though he assured me that i could call or email him for more info, he refused to answer my calls and emails, even though he knew that i needed that info to pay my fines! he is not a nice person, and i wouldn’t recommend him to represent a dog! he took my $$$ and i got nothing usable to settle my case! thumbs double down on this guy! skip him, and spend your money on an attorney who gives a hoot! ;-(

First I want to make a comment on AJG, In my opinion only about 15% of your comment made sense to me. The 15% i was able to comprehend were of no importance to your statment, At least not in a way that would make I myself base a a decision on rather to use your opinion to persaue my judgment of rather or not Mr. Ecks would be a risk for me to hire to handle my legal affairs and if some risk were found to be legitamit in my own opinion. Would the risk be at all worth it, I will agree this may seem to some as I am just rambling on with no point. But I assure you I have more than 1 point I will be making.
Let me start witha portion of your statement in fact it is the very first sentence in the comment you wrote,

Your own words say you retained. Now please anyone correct me if I am wrong (Cause I certainly havebeen known to be on more than one occasion) But I was under the impression RETAINED means you hired. Retained means you have given a form of payment to secure representaion.

That simply means the y were able to reach a agreement without a trial. Again I could be wrong on that but after reveiwing Landlord tenant laws for several states but of most importance the state of California, I would be willing to bet I am correct on that statement. Furthermore I also would like to point out most stipulation have strings attached, Example one may be getting evicted for non payment of rent however have proof a fat check is already in the mail and a landlord may be inclined to say due to that proof they will delay the eviction provided you agree to sign that check over.
Simply a example, It would also more than likley have a date attached as a time frame of when you were to do the signing of that check or else it would be considered (what’s the word i am looking for) default I would think, Which if your being evicted for non payment of rent you already have established your capable of defaulting.
Again sorry if it seems i am rambling. But the stipulation with the attached string you filing a answer to the unlawful detainer, I would also think that is a mark on the good side for you. Simply because if you do not file a answer. Here is that word again you will be in DEFAULT however this time the default will be entered by the judge prosiding over the case, Meaning your landlord option would then be left to either continue with his right to have you evicted as per law or drop the entire case against you, (also meaning he could not collect attorney fee or court cost, and lets face it you yourself I would certainly not think would expect any landlord to come out of pocket paying added expenses cort cost, attorney fees etc. All due to trying to collect what is rightfully owed to them.
However once again I could be wrong, Bottom line is you claim you retained him then you claim he called you after the fact asking you if you would like to retain him, However you say after you agreed less than 24 hours you fired him and set out to hire another attorney, Now one more fact remains is it could very well be I am entirley misinterpiting what your complaint You offered to give him a percent of the retainer agian your admitting you hired him, But he gave it all back, Need I really go further, In fact wait yes I have a very big question…
YOU CAN NOT PAY RENT BUT YOUR ABLE TO OFFER HIM TO KEEP A PORTION OF THE MONEY YOU PAID HIM FOR SERVICE THAT YOU CLAIM WAS NO GOOD.
Enough of that situation, Because anyone reading that comment that can not read between the lines and see that it was made out spite is blind.
I called this attorney after arriving to Orange county court to take care of a warrant and realizing there is always a chance of being taken into custody, I called him told him I am already at court had already signed in, He said Ill be there in 20 minutes, He was there just like he said, My court date was scheaduled for January 15, I ended up being taken in in La County days later, My worry was orange county putting a hold for not showing up on the 15^th.
I have not even paid this man the rest of what I owe for him representing me yet he made sure no warrant was issued from Orange County,

I retained Doug Eckes Esq. for Motion to Set Aside Default of Judgment and Stay of Execution after I failed to file answer to my landlords Unlawful Detainer. Nevertheless, my landlord’s attorney agreed to stipulate after speaking with Doug, contingent on us filing answer to Unlawful Detainer. Doug agreed to file answer without representation for Unlawful Detainer. However, two days later I received a call from Doug asking if I wanted to retain his services for Unlawful Detainer… I agreed.
At first we could not agree on representation fee because he was asking for an amount very different than his ad. Needless to say, Doug agreed to represent me for the amount in his ad… less than 24 hours after agreeing to have Doug represent me for the Unlawful Detainer, I ended our client/​attorney relationship to seek other representation. As a courtesy, I offered Doug a quarter percent of the retainer that was paid to him for the Unlawful Detainer. Doug declined my offer, he instead chose to return funds, verbally insult me via phone and via text.
After this, I chose to move forward and represent myself until I retained the right attorney. I’m writing the following review for these reasons, please see below:
1. Doug agreed to file Unlawful Detainer Answer for me. However, he filed answer in both our names which officially made him my attorney. Something, I later realized… not to mention Doug never gave me a copy of the answer. This is why Doug contacted me days after filing Unlawful Detainer answer asking if I wanted to retain his services. I have to say, this was calculating but smart of him to gain business.
2. After terminating Doug, he told me that he wished that he took my landlords attorney advice and not represent for various reasons (all offensive to me).
3. After realizing Doug was my attorney until he and /​or I file Substitution of Attorney. I contacted Doug for his assistance and explained that I would file Substitution of Attorney on our behalf. Needless to say, Doug refused to sign Substitution of Attorney until weeks after his termination and me threatening to file complaint to BAR.
4. Doug filed Unlawful Detainer answer in his own print hand writing, which was not legible per the Judge and /​or to any reader.
5. The Unlawful Detainer answer that Doug filed on my behalf, in response to my landlords Unlawful Detainer was rejected by the Judge. Per the Judge, Doug did not check the correct defense, date answer and signed in the incorrect spots.
Truly, Doug did not help me in anyway. However, I’m sure he can be of assistance to other. This is my true experience and nothing more. Anyone trying to dispute review will be met with facts. Thank you!
