Anchorage Marriott Downtown

After waiting for more than 30 minutes for a simple burger, it arrived cold. The waitress saw my displeasure and came over to ask if all was well. When I explained that the burger – though rare as requested – was quite cold, she offered to replace it. During my wait for the second burger, the head of food services came over to offer to waive the bill. I replied that all I wanted was the burger served not cold. That was 50 minutes ago and I’m still waiting for a burger. Won’t eat here again-​polite staff, but poorly run kitchen.

Best Marriott I’ve stayed in so far! I pay close attention to detail and I did not find any little forgotten services in any part of my room. Everything was clean, every surface had been touched, and this is the first Marriott where they got the coffee maker situation correct ! I am very impressed and happy to be here. Especially with such friendly staff like the sweet girl Kelli at the front desk!

Usually, I love my Marriott. I’ve stayed in LA, San Diego, San Francisco.
This time, in Anchorage, not so much.
The TV cable was out. I understand this can happen.
The desk people told me I could watch TV in the lobby. That is not what I paid for. Additionally, the hot tub was covered by plants, mostly fake.
The desk people (eyes of Marriott) seemed uncaring and unapologetic?
Alberto, valet parking, was, by far, the nicest employee.
I’m considering changing hotels.

Just flew into town. Parking attendant is nowhere to be found. Then just as I check in they close the bar. It’s going to be a long night. I’m already pissed off.

3.5 stars. I’ve stayed at the other Marriots in town and they have fridge/​microwave in room along with complimentary breakfast. I assumed this one would as well but it doesn’t. This didn’t ruin our stay, just surprised us. The staff here is very friendly, everyone willing to help and offer amenities. The pool is nice size and there’s a decent exercise room with free weights and cardio equipment. The valet parking is very convenient and if you call before leaving your room they’ll have your car ready by the time you get to lobby.
The restaurants weren’t very good. Had chicken for dinner and it tasted like it was in the freezer too long and was overcooked. My sons cheeseburger looked great and he loved it. The next morning for breakfast had the eggs Benedict. Benedict sauce tasted sour and was congealed on the plate. Hashbrowns were obviously frozen and still in a round flat shape, they were cold and watery. My son had pancakes and said they were great. Service at both restaurants was wonderful, just not the greatest food.
The proximity to downtown is by far the best feature. We walked around and had the rest of our meals downtown. We would come here again for short stays but will probably pick a hotel with a fridge and microwave for longer stays.

I have stayed here a few times on business trips. This most recent stay there was a leak and the water was shut off from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM. I had an early flight to the North Slope that morning and the water never heated up before I left and I didn’t get to take a shower.
Management sent me an email, apologized for the inconvenience and had a fruit and cheese plate with two beers sent to my room when I returned a few days later. On top of that they gave me points for a free night stay. I didn’t even complain which was the surprising thing. Top notch management at this hotel. They have my business from now on.

I have stayed at this Marriott over twenty times in the last three years. Each time they are very attentive and always are willing to offer help. Brandon D. and the front of staff are exceptional. Next, when I call room service, the food is very good and I’m always greeted with a smile and a call after, to confirm it was suitable to me is a kind gesture. Thank you Marriott Team!

The low flow toilets won’t completely flush solid waste. Twice, I had to use the trashcan in the bathroom as a bucket, repeatedly filling it with water from the bathtub and pouring it into the toilet to complete the flush. Our society is so far beyond those first generation low flow toilets that this hotel should have changed those out years ago.
The thermostat in the room behaved as if a motion sensor in the room controls it because it shut off the airflow to the HVAC system in the middle of the night. The room became too warm to sleep so I woke up and was awake for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. A hotel’s one main job is to provide a comfortable night’s sleep but they fail that with those thermostats.
Stay elsewhere when in Anchorage like The Captain Cook Hotel. It’s nice, has working toilets and guest-​friendly thermostats.

I forgot my tie and had to be in court by 8am. I ask Brandon D. at the front desk if there was a store open this early so I could go and buy a tie. He yanks the tie off around his neck and hands it to me. Are you for real?! What service. Thanks Brandon and Marriott. I’m sold. Don’t worry Brandon, I’ll return the tie in the morning.

Very nice Marriott and it’s located right downtown which is a good and a bad thing. Within walking distance to many restaurants and bars but very close to the train station which seemed to attract a lot of homeless people. The rooms were nice and clean with great views. Sign up for the rewards program or you’ll be spending $ 15/​day on Wi-​Fi. The work out facility is nice and clean with a big indoor swimming pool. Staff was very friendly and very helpful.

Stayed here for one night before transferring to the airport. The room we had was basic in size, but very clean and well appointed. Very modern furnishings. Quiet room. Great shower. Even had a view of the water. I would definitely stay here again.

Location, Location, Location, this is one of the best things that this hotel has going for it. Other than that, this is a very tired example of a Marriott, which is supposed to be a «signature» hotel within the Marriott brand.
Pro’s:
+Location — within walking distance to many of the downtown sites, shops, and restaurants
+Wifi — they have it, but see cons
+Staff — they were extremely friendly and helpful
+Concierge lounge– they have one on the top floor. I do like the fact that while it has set hours for food offerings, it provides a nice area to relax or to meet and catch up/​work with your coworkers
+Beds– Pretty comfortable
+ Shower height — Decent
+ Views– gorgeous views of the mountains
+ Baggage scale — Are you sure that your suitcase is under the required max weight? Well fret not, there is a luggage scale in the lobby area by the touristy brochures to help you determine if you have made the cut.
Con’s
— Price — This hotel can be pricey depending on the day you book, especially during cruise season
— Hotel category — So this hotel is listed as a 7, which is toward the top end of the tier (9) is the highest. I’ve stayed at Courtyards that are nicer than this hotel.
–Wifi — For Elites its free, but watch out if you have to pay. $ 14.95/day for regular and $ 17.??/day for «high» speed. The connection was spotty and slow at the high speed rate and all I was trying to do was check email.
— Beware of cruise departure/​arrival days– did I mention that it can get busy? Celebrity uses this hotel as a pickup/​drop-​off point for cruisers. While they do meet in the conference rooms on the second floor, it gets packed if you happen to be entering/​exiting the hotel when the groups are trying to leave/​enter as well. The lobby is extremely tiny and can’t handle the over welling number of people.

If you’ve seen one decent Marriott, you’ve seen them all. Beware that during tourist season things can get CRAZY. Cruise companies have a deal where you can stay at the Marriott and then giant coach buses pick everyone up and take them to the ship the next morning. The entire hotel lobby was filled with suitcases and rowdy children.
Also, the concierge floor was decent but the food and beer selection isn’t great. I’ve experienced a lot better. But their breakfast buffet was a Marriott breakfast buffet which means it was great.

Hotel is your typical Marriott. Room and facilities were clean and well maintained. Front desk was super friendly and welcoming during check-​in. Hotel itself wasn’t like spectacular especially when charging $ 400 a night. Parking was expensive but I decided to park on the street just in front of the hotel. The area seems safe but just don’t leave anything visible inside the car.
I was here couple of months ago and ate at its restaurant. I had the Marriott burger and it was quite tasty. Service was excellent. Unfortunately I couldn’t say the same during this visit. I ordered the same burger and it was completely the opposite. Burger was bland and patty was dried. It tasted like cardboard. The waitress was slow and too preoccupied with her coworkers.

Marriott Downtown Anchorage is a pretty decent example of a Marriott. The parking is limited to Easy Park or valet at the hotel. If using the valet and coming and going quickly, tell the attendant and they will keep your vehicle in the street loading zone for fast access.
The only bad I have to mention would be one of the concierge lounge attendants acted like I was in the way by being there while he was trying to stock the lounge. This was an exception to everything else I experienced while staying at the hotel.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel last weekend, on a get-​a-​way. Marriott is my favorite hotel by far but I’ve never seen a Marriott like this one. Old, outdated, foyer furniture was torn (see pic), no microwave, portable frige upon request only and it was too tiny to actually hold anything. Great bay view but the window was too dirty to see or even take a picture of it. The average cost of a Marriott hotel stay is about $ 200 a night but this place was so not worth it.

This Marriott was nice, but not what I expect for the price. The room and bathroom were clean and spacious. However, the room was lacking in the amenities I expect from other Marriotts (no robes in the closet, no book with room service menu/​hotel info, etc.). The internet is expensive, slow and can be difficult to get a connection. On-​site valet parking is $ 25/​night, or you can use the meters nearby.
I’m also disappointed in their restaurant/​lounge. There are no hours or menu on the website. It does say its open for ‘breakfast, lunch, and dinner’. However, when I went at noon it was closed.

The staff and location are great, we were able to check-​in quickly and get around downtown Anchorage with no problems, but the room isn’t worth the price that we paid. We had a «mountain view» room that overlooked some buildings with just a sliver of mountain in the background. I did appreciate the curtains being able to block out the Alaskan sun though. Wifi is expen$ive and the fitness center was pretty disappointing (a few treadmills, ellipticals, and free weights). Not sure I’d stay here again.

Marriott Anchorage is my first choice for a hotel in Alaska. They are always quick to get me checked in and most of the time I get an upgrade to the concierge level. I suggest you take advantage of their valet parking. It’s nice to have your windows scraped and your car warmed up when you are ready to leave the building. this is a full-​service Marriott with all the amenities you would expect to have. It’s only a short walk to the downtown restaurants, bars and shopping. Next time you’re visiting Anchorage I suggest you give the Marriott a try.

Really nice property in an excellent location in downtown. As a Marriott Platinum Rewards member, I was upgraded to a slightly bigger room on the 20^th floor and the large windows faced out to the water. In the winter time (mid-​January), it took a while but there was eventually a good view of some of downtown and across to the airport.
Concierge lounge was closed when I arrived, so I was only able to pop in and grab a few bottles of water before they shut down.
The room was quiet, it was serviced well, and the curtains did a fab job of blocking out quite a lot of the sunlight.
My only complaint was that the computer in the lobby wasn’t free. Sad face.
There is a parking deck across the street — I think this would be a much cheaper option than using the valet. But be warned — that’s also the building with the bus station so there’s a certain… element… there.
