Plain Jane Consignment

This is my third time here… I’ve stopped by the past two times I visited Anchorage. The first time I came there was a sale and I got some bargains but the past last time and this they are ripping off the folks here. Too too expensive.

Cute stuff. Was going to buy some things but they let dogs in the store and a dog rubbed itself all over the items. No thanks.

The store itself is really nice and elaborate. Clothes are upscale — just like the prices. Sweaters were $ 65 and plain shirts ranged from $ 20-​$ 50. Too expensive for my taste, especially for consignment. I will say this is a pretty good store to find jackets though. I found a nice Northface vest for $ 44 which I thought was fair since Northface jackets typically run twice that. A good place to stop by if you can afford it.

Beautiful place with great prices on used items… They have everything from high-​end designer bags to Nike athletic wear, and all in amazing shape yet with reasonable prices (some consignment shops seem to forget they are selling USED clothing). The shopkeeper was very kind and let me take my time without hassling me– I spent about 2 hours in here and left with some mustard jeans and a dressy top for ~60 total. Neither look worn at all. Really enjoy the place and will return again.

When I was here last, in 2005, it was a cramped, tiny store. It’s now much bigger and nicer. There was a fairly extensive selection of jeans, and they have the most boots I’ve seen around town for consignment. They have some small household items like art, chairs, linens, the occasional cooking pot, and candles. The clothes tend more toward designer and high end, like Second Run, as opposed to Clothesline.
Standout brands included DVF, Derek Lam, True Religion, and lots of Frye; there was a little bit of vintage stuff, too. I usually need a bit more bargain in my bargain hunting, so I probably won’t shop here often, but if I’m looking for something special, this will be on my list.

I am really pleased to have discovered this anchorage gem. Easy location, friendly staff, and good selection at fair prices. Will definitely stop here frequently!

You can find some really great treasures here! I’m new to the area and went in to check it out for the first time last week! I couldn’t believe how many designer items they had and all seemed to be in pretty great condition! I was a little worried when I moved here that I wouldn’t be able to find any of my favorite designer clothing/​purses/​shoes, but I’m happy to say I’ve found my go to place! The set up of the store seemed pretty organized and employees were helpful and friendly! I ended up purchasing a Kate Spade makeup bag and I absolutely LOVE it! :)

Pros: A fairly large (for a boutique) collection of high-​end, contemporary clothing. The taste is conservative and wearable. (No Lady Gaga getups here). There are some very big label names (Coach, Fendi, Burberry) at fair prices, and if you know how to spot it, you can buy clothing that is very well-​made for rock-​bottom prices. Example: I bought a black alpaca/​wool blend swing coat for $ 41.
Cons: While I didn’t experience any direct acts of rudeness from the salesgirls, the atmosphere isn’t exactly warm and comfortable. I don’t need for salespeople to fawn over me, but a smile would be nice.

Like the previous reviewer said — we are fashion starved in Anchorage. But when I step into Plain Jane and see 3.1 Phillip Lim, Lela Rose, Balenciaga, Helmut Lang… it really makes me giddy. You find brands that you won’t even find in most states, period.
I’ve consigned several items there, and I always feel like they are pricing things at a very fair price for the person consigning.
The ladies in there have been so helpful, and were one of the first people I could talk to about fashion, the week I arrived in Anchorage.
The store set-​up is great and everything is beautifully displayed. Their customer doesn’t mind spending money, so I trust my items when they are in there.

There are some decent stuff… but the prices do no justice. Some of the stuff are no cheaper than when it’s on sale at the department store. If it’s vintage, then I understand, but a lot of items are stuff that you can find on sale in store (maybe not in Alaska) for the same price or a little cheaper. I was looking through the jeans and there is no way some of the pants that are a size 26 are 26. It says 26… but man… they’re more like a ²⁹⁄₃₀.

I ordered flowers for my girlfriend the day before valentines day, the order never got to her and I received an E-​mail and a phone call 2 days after. I didn’t have any pending payments on my account until after I called customer service to have it canceled. They then charged my card and took it off afterwards. The customer service agent told me that they E-​mailed me Valentines day morning, but my account had the date received for 2 days after Valentines day. I am very unhappy about this.

They are amazing!!! I love this shop. It’s very neat and the atmosphere is great!!! There is an upstairs area with a cute little nook for children’s clothing. Also different rooms and nooks are set up with items to check out such as scarves, coats, and even a shoe section. They put a lot of thought into the set up of the shop, and you couldn’t ask for a nicer staff. Plus, they give you 50% of the profit on your items that they sell. They have nice clothes, seven of all mankind jeans, miss me, true religion, and even sorel boots!!! Their stuff is nice and very well priced. So much better than platos closet. Do not go to platos closet unless you want to be ripped off. Platos closet will tell you that they don’t take a dark wash denim before even looking at your pants!!! Then, they offer you $ 15 for true religions worn once. I took the same jeans to the clothesline and they were friendly, helpful, and offered me $ 40, for the same pair!!! Go to the clothesline!!! Don’t go to platos closet unless you want to be ripped off!!! Plus, all their clothes have stains or smell like smoke. That’s what happens when RUDE girls run the store. They ignore you and don’t offer any help. I have never been treated worse than I was at platos closet!!! Go to the CLOTHESLINE!!! Best decision I’ve ever made!!!

Love this place.
We are fashion starved in Anchorage… well make that Alaska in general. This place has saved my booty on several occations (birthdays, weddings) with the PERFECT outfit. Shoes, dresses, handbags, jewelry, you name it! Its one stop shopping :-)
Great selection, pricing can very from shockingly good to «I wouldn’t pay that if it was brand new» but errs mostly on the side of the first.
Another thing I love about this place is that it doesn’t have that «second-​hand» smell. You may think I am being a snob for even mentioning that but we all know its true… you can never get that stank off of some things. Yes it is a bit heavily purfumed, but its not cloying or cheap and I MUCH prefer that to other places in town.
I have noticed that the owner can cop a bit of an attitude sometimes, but she does warm up to you after she sees you a few times. I think she is just a dillitante but hey, I still walk outta there looking and feeling fab so she can grump all she wants.

This store is AWESOME. When I finally went to it, I could not believe the amount of clothing she has! All by different designers, and extremely well priced. You would NEVER see items at these prices in a major city. This store has made me think that maybe living in Anchorage is not so bad after all…

The owner leaves a lot to be desired in this tiny, overpriced establishment. The storefront is beautiful, cute and makes you want to look around. However, her pretentious attitude and high prices on things you could purchase on sale or on ebay, do not make you want to stick around.
Shop elsewhere. She picks up many of her items at Value Village and so could you.

Pros: often has a great high end selection, from shoes to coats and everything in between. The store is nicely decorated and inventory is organized well.
Cons: some of the clothing is really overpriced, especially the lower end designers. Compared to consignment stores in SF, the prices here are way too high. I’ve noticed some of the inventory has been in there for well over a year or two and I’m guessing it’s because no one wants to pay $ 100-​something for a used BCBG tunic. You could get better prices at a sample sale in many cases, or by using a coupon at Banana Republic for new clothing. I also for some reason get a slightly pretentious vibe from the woman behind the counter, but maybe she’s just in a bad mood every time I’m there. Give me a smile once in a while! Also, the perfume they use in the store is too intense, probably to cover the used clothing smell.
In general, despite the cons (price, smile-​proof lady, smell) the hard-​to-​come-​by selection still makes this a mandatory shopping expedition stop if you’re on the hunt for high fashion.

Awesome place for lightly used designer clothes. Seven for All Mankind jeans, Marc by Marc Jacobs and lots of Coach purses. I can always find something I want. Whether I can afford it or not.

I am sincerely impressed with this store’s collection: Dior, Dooney & Burke, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Banana Republic, Coach, Fendi, Michael Stars, Calvin Klein, and more. They even have Louis Vuitton here; but just get it straight right now that you’re not going to find a bag that sells for $ 700 new to be discounted to $ 40; it just doesn’t happen people. If you can afford to buy those kinds of labels in the first place, you will enjoy the (relative) discounts, especially the quality of the materials. The condition of the clothes/​scarves/​shoes are excellent. I had a hard time just browsing, then I thought I should think about buying an item for a while before I take the plunge. Otherwise, I’d lose alot of money in a cute store like this. I love how it’s decorated, very feminine and tasteful. The girl working at the store was nice to me and I’m sure I’ll be back again and again.

Maybe this should be 5 stars.
In general, they have quite a well-​curated little collection. I visit when I come back to Anchorage and I always manage to find something great. I agree with the previous reviewer that this is probably the place to shop for the nicest clothes in Anchorage. Prices often are pretty high compared to elsewhere around town, but they are very good considering what you get. My purchases include:
*a fabulous vintage Chanel-​esque fur-​trimmed jacket ($ 40something)
*a 3.1 Phillip Lim shirt ($ 60 or so? it fell apart sadly, but I have the designer to blame for the poor fabric choice, can’t fault the store)
*a Banana Republic skirt ($ 32)
My only complaint is that sometimes the pricing seems a little random, with J. Crew and Banana Republic-​type stuff not discounted as much as it should be considering it’s not super nice to begin with. (For example, the $ 32 BR skirt mentioned above… i couldn’t resist though because it fit me perfectly.) On the whole, there are some great bargains here and you can get special pieces you won’t find anywhere else in town.

If you’re looking to find high end, like really high end, women’s fashion in Anchorage, this is your shop. But you won’t know it from the exterior of this little strip mall front.
True Religion, COH, tons of Free People and Betsey Johnson, and bags — fabulous bags, from L.A.M.B. and Coach to straight up Kooba can be found here. It’s a consignment shop, so some of the things are new, some used, but it’s all a way more impressive collection than Anchorage’s only Nordstrom — by far. Prices are at a premium, because most of this stuff can’t be found anywhere else in town.
The interior is super cute, with chaise lounges piled with lux bags and fancy drapes and chandeliers hanging down. Very plush. But still relaxed.
