Specialties

The Andover Historical Society tells the unique stories of Andover through our museum, library, archives, exhibitions and programs. By our active community involvement, the Society fosters a strong community that knows its history, values what it inherits, and takes pride in what it passes on to future generations.

The Andover Historical Society is pleased to announce the return of the Andover Farmers Market opening June 29th running every Saturday rain or shine from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. through October 5th, 2013. The market is located at 97 Main Street in beautiful downtown Andover surrounding the Andover Historical Society. After six immensely successful years, the Farmers’ Market will return with new extended hours and many favorite farm vendors as well as several new vendors bringing a variety of goods including fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, cheese, wine, crafts and much more! Demonstrators and musicians will show their skills and talents too.

History

Established in 1911.

On April 14, 1911 this group of enthusiastic local historians founded the Andover Historical Society «for the purpose of cultivating and encouraging an interest in antiquarian and historical research; to collect and treasure significant historical matter and antiquarian relics, and to found and maintain a museum where such collections shall be preserved and exhibited…»

Based on input from Society members and our community, in 2010 the Society’s mission changed to be outward looking and community focused. The passion for local history and preservation that led to the founding and early growth of the Andover Historical Society had been matched by the enthusiasm and passion of the volunteers and members donate countless hours to the care of the Society’s collections and the Blanchard house. Now as we look back at a proud tradition of passion for preserving Andover’s stories, we look forward to sharing those stories in the Society’s second century.
