Beck’s Auto

Becks has always done us right. We’ve used them for our company and personal vehicles for many years for all our maintenance and repairs.
They do nice work, I trust them and they’re all around good guys. They’ve been nothing but nice to me. One time as I was picking up my vehicle, an employee ran to catch me before I left. He gave his condolences because, he heard that a family member passed. It felt sincere and I appreciated the gesture.
The only issue I’ve had (out of dozens of visits with multiple vehicles) is one time I dropped my car off overnight during an ice storm. I knew it wouldn’t start the next day and they’d have to move it into the garage however you move a stalled car. Anyways, the moving thing slipped and damaged my bumper BUT they informed me immediately and replaced it with a new bumper. Considering everything was covered in ice, I believe it to be a freak accident which they fully corrected.

I had my car towed in because it wouldn’t start. Ray, the owner, seemed extremely nice and helpful. I was told I would receive a call when they had more information. I took a cab to work.
About five hours later, nobody had called so I called asking for an update. I was told there was nothing wrong with my vehicle and that it had started up just fine. They also told me they had scanned the computer for codes and that they didn’t find anything. I was frustrated at this point because there seemed to be something wrong with it, but hoping it was a freak one-​time thing I picked my car up that afternoon. At this point I had paid for a tow truck and a cab back and forth from work with nothing to show for it.
As soon as I got the car home, it wouldn’t start up again. I tried the next morning, and again, it wouldn’t start. I called Beck’s and again spoke to Ray and explained that I would need to get it towed in again– hoping that because they had failed to discover yesterday what was clearly a major issue, they would be willing to compensate me for the fact that I would again have to pay for a tow and a cab back and forth to work.
Not only was that not an option, Ray didn’t even seem to think that their failure to discover the issue was remotely their fault. He kept repeating that they had scanned the computer for codes and found nothing. Any idiot with a handheld scanner can scan for codes; I get the car towed to an auto repair shop because I expect them to have a little more expertise. Even if they can’t replicate the issue, if they know what it is they should know what to look for. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.
Update: after posting this review, Ray called me back to argue with me about whose fault it was that they hadn’t been able to fix my car. I explained to him that I had been willing to give his shop another chance as long as he didn’t act like it had been their failure to discover the issue in the first place. I told him it was irrelevant, as I was taking my car elsewhere, and he said he understood that but felt it necessary to continue arguing with me. I found this EXTREMELY unprofessional.
