This cash-​only dive bar has a great burger. Really. And that old-​school charm that is hard to duplicate.
They also know how to serve a cold beer… and the Coronas with lime almost slayed me.

I usually take my food to go but staff is always very nice and burgers are great, I like the curly fries!

Cash only and the bartender was super rude at last call, too concerned with getting out of there instead of her customers that were still enjoying their drinks.

2 Great Burgers and Curly fries. My the other burger place I like, you can’t even go inside so added bonus for sit down, table side and a sweet patio.
3 Old school dive style bar with a super friendly staff, that gives you that feeling after you have been a few times like you are visiting a buddies place, The service has always been consistent for me here and better than first expected.
4 The daily Specials are always an added bonus going to class down the street. Great bar food hats off to the lady in the back of the house grilling.

I was very tempted to give this place a 2 star rating but could not do so simply because the burgers here are very good. The overall atmosphere, cleanliness, and speed of service are all lacking but gosh darn it the burgers are still great.
I have been here probably 5 or 6 times since moving to Kansas and I will probably be back but I would warn would-​be patrons that the wait times for food can be quite lengthy. The overall atmosphere is typical of a small town «hole in the wall» bar and the cleanliness and condition of the building are somewhat off-​putting but the burgers are still very good and the beer is cold and cheap. On that note, be aware that this place does not have a full bar. They have a few domestic beers on tap and probably a little more extensive selection of bottles and cans but do not serve mixed drinks. You should also be aware that they currently only take cash (there is an ATM in the building).
The building is not very big but they do have a patio out back that is enjoyable during good weather.

Love this place! Burgers are always great and the jalapeño relish is amazing. Great atmosphere and family friendly. Timbuktu is definitely one of my family’s favorites!

Cold beer and burgers here at this hometown favorite but burgers don’t seem to be as good as they once where. Not sure what’s different but they just are not as good. Enjoyed the red beer and the jalapeño relish and the fried mushrooms are a tasty treat. I’ve been back twice and yes the burgers are still good but I can’t put my finger on why they just are not as good as in the past. If you ride a motorcycle this seems to be a popular hang for the riders as well. They only sell beer here and no stiff stuff. Give it a try for yourself, it’s still a great place to eat.

Cold beer (red, if you prefer), good burgers, nice patio, and lots of other fried stuff. Seriously. can you go wrong?
Try the jalapeño relish and some waffle fries. I’d honestly say the burger is in the top five in the metro area.

So disappointed in the service, order was wrong but never got an apology or anything! Neither waitress was remotely friendly or kind. :-(
Shocked to find they only accept cash or checks… WHO still accepts checks? No other information was taken down i.e., phone #, drivers license, etc. Very disappointing!

If you want crappy service and bar tenders with a ‘tude this is a great place. Definitely off my list of places to go.

We tried Timbuktu a few weeks ago since I’ve always wondered do they really have the «World’s Best Burger» as the banner said on the outside of the building for years.
Well, to be honest, it was a good burger for sure! I had the classic burger with cheese and waffle fries. Hubby had the classic burger with krinkle cut and an iced tea (I had a water). The tea was in a huge glass which was nice so he didn’t even need a refill.
The burger was very filling and the fries were good and fresh. The burger was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. We really enjoyed it. We didn’t try the Jalepeno relish but i’ve heard it was good.
The price isn’t bad but I really think the waitress inflated my total big time. On the menu it said it included chips but she gave us a choice of fries as well and it didn’t say if it was an extra charge or not. 2 burgers with fries and 1 iced tea and a water came to $ 24??? For lunch I thought that as a little steep, although the food was good. The burgers were $ 7 each and the tea was $ 2.50 so I figure our bill with tip would be under $ 20 but if they charge extra for fries, I guess that’s where the extra charge was (I wasn’t given a receipt, just a word of mouth total)
If you are looking for décor, you wont get it here because you are in a bar (which you’d realize when you saw the outside) but if you want a pretty good burger, give em a try!

I traveled to «Main St» in the «city» of Andover to visit a dive bar whose burgers have become notorious in Wichita, though maybe it’s just because the name is pretty catchy. After all, Timbuktu is a city in the African nation of Mali and was the center of Islam in the continent for the 15^th and 16^th century. More importantly, it was popularized by comedians in the middle 20^th century for having a funny name. Also included were places such as Kalamazoo and Lake Titicaca.
The Andover Timbuktu doesn’t offer much spiritual guidance, but allows you to find religion at the bottom of a mug, or perhaps a mason jar. It’s the type of place that only has the domestics on tap, and during certain days of the week it’s cheaper to order a pitcher of beer than a glass. More importantly, they also serve half pound burgers the way they were meant to be served — stacked up, not out.
Why so many places around here insist on taking their ground beef and shaping it into a small Frisbee, I’ll never know, but by forming the patty to fit within the confines of the bun, you get some depth, which means that that when cooking, the exterior can get the crispy caramelized surfaces and the interior can remain juicy (theoretically, depending on the cook). The cheese and bun were ordinary, and the fries weren’t fresh (though offering tots and waffle fries was nice), but that patty was cooked well enough to make me a fan, though it might have been a little leaner than I would have liked. Also fan-​inducing was the jalapeño relish and grilled onions they offer to slap on the burger for you. I thought the amount they gave me was going to be too much heat, but it worked well against the burger and, of course, the cold beer.
I can’t see traveling all the way from Wichita to Timbuktu for the burger, but I can certainly understand why some do. This is how the cheap classic-​style burgers in Wichita should be served.

Timbuktu is about how it sounds it’s going to be. A funny little hole in the wall that brings out everyone in town, young and old, rich and broke. It’s really got a movie quality about it.
They claim to have the «Best Burgers in the World», and they are really awesome and then there’s always their jalapeño Beer if you think can handle it.
I loved that people were yelling «Howdy Joe» to get free chips. Too funny.
It’s worth a visit, and then go back again in the summer for the patio — they have misters and sidewalk chalk for the kids. (I think locals sunbathe here.) Beware — it’s cash only.

Great burgers and pork fritter sandwich and the fried pickles are amazing! Cheap drink specials daily too!
